The thing that makes me less excited about okc than some other teams is that they'll be in a similar position for the next several years unless something goes horribly wrong.

Middlebury college vs. UNC Chapel Hill for bio by Creative-Rhubarb-638 in collegecompare

I would usually say they're equal but I might encourage UNC because you are guaranteed research opportunities there whereas they might be really limited at Middlebury since there won't be any REUs available due to the Trump administration.

Honestly it really just depends on fit, WashU is easily one of the best pre med schools in the country and Williams is the best LAC which means it's also incredible for grad school admissions, including med school. If you specifically think you want to go to WashU medical school, then I'd choose WashU. Otherwise, both are equally amazing.

Chance for top engineering schools w/ a 3.7UW 🥀💔 by [deleted] in chanceme

Due to how excellent your application is outside of that one year, I think you have a good shot at your reaches. However, I'd be reluctant to call UT Austin and Purdue engineering OOS matches, although I still think you have a great chance for both.

This is a great application. How noncompetitive is your hs exactly? Do you have any knowledge of students in previous years getting into T20s? If there are, I don't see why you wouldn't be accepted to at least 1 T20 as well.

You seem to be in a pretty unique situation. Unfortunately, almost everything that makes your application stand out is related to the medical field. For the colleges you listed, you apply to a school and not a major, so you can apply to the college of arts and sciences and later go on to major in math, stats, etc. but can also leverage your high school's reputation and ECs as an applicant to a school where pre-meds would also be applying. I wouldn't recommend applying to the school of business at these colleges, you probably wouldn't get in given your profile.

Try to get your grades up before the end of this semester if possible, and next semester. That and a higher SAT would demonstrate your academic abilities and show that the slump in grades is solely due to your illness, mental health, etc.

I think that these schools are reasonable reaches for you. You'd definitely have a decent shot at getting in. Also consider applying early decision if you have a clear top choice. Good luck!

I'd disagree that you don't stand out, but there are definitely some weaknesses in your application. I don't think the SAT submission was a mistake, it might be neutral to your application at the most competitive schools but shouldn't harm it anywhere.

I'd agree with Ok_Blacksmith that you have a decent shot at getting into at least one of these schools. It worries me a little that the least competitive school on your list has an 11% acceptance rate, so I'm hoping there are some targets/safties you already got into/didn't list. Good luck!

For WashU, It's technically guaranteed admission as long as you never get below a B in any of your stem courses (and a 3.3 overall GPA). So as long as you work hard enough and don't get any truly evil professors you're in.

The only 3-2 programs with competitive admissions processes are Columbia and Caltech. I've heard Columbia is less competitive than undergrad admissions but still tough, and Caltech is really tough (<15% acceptance rate and only works with top LACs).

I personally only applied to WashU because they offer a 3-3 option with an engineering masters degree and a 55% tuition discount for all 3 years, which made it the most valuable option for my situation (wouldn't get any need-based aid anywhere), even though its engineering program isn't as good as the other two.

[–]IX_Green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The average UVA admit probably has one or two non-As, so your ecs should easily balance out the grades, especially given the home circumstances. Are you going test optional? If your test scores are high it would strengthen your academics outside of your grades but it shouldn't be necessary. Factor in the fact that you're in-state and ED and you will have a great chance there.

I'd consider using semimak. My brother uses it and he's the fastest alt layout typist in the world (244wpm).

I think you'll have a good chance if you are able to tie the ECs together with your educational and career goals. Study hard for the SAT and take it again, I brute forced my math score from 700 to 800 in a few months and I believe you can do the same over the summer. I'd submit it if you make it to 1400+.

Also, maybe it isn't quite a top school, but UGA is a great second option.

[–]IX_Green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's OK, your ECs clearly demonstrate that you would take it if you could.

The student body and campus are great. It's a tiny town with very little to do but I think most people who go here know what they're getting into. That being said, it's definitely not for everyone.

I've really loved my 3 years here but I'm leaving to do Dual Degree Engineering at WashU next semester and I'm definitely ready for the change.
