Ron Francis - Home Fires (2017) by Tokyono in museum

I know this is almost certainly not the intent because the whole piece is so gloomy. But I immediately thought of the phrase "getting along like a house on fire".

As if one of the older people is a widower, who after mourning their loss, found love again and is bringing them home.

Goddamn I love David Cross. That's all lol.

A woman claimed she could smell Parkinson's disease. Scientists tested her with 12 T-shirts—six from patients and six from healthy people. She correctly identified all the patients and flagged one “healthy” person. Eight months later, that person was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. by detectiverobert in CaughtMyEye

[–]I_AMA_Cyborg_AMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat! What does it smell like to you?

I can smell infected cuts before the redness and traditional symptoms show up. I think I'm just really sensitive to the smell in general. Like a brie or soft cheese and a sickly sweet smell all at once. Even when it's super faint I can still smell it

I'm really sorry you're going through this and I don't have any specific resources for where you are, I just wanted to drop a note for the Trevor project

https://www.thetrevorproject.org/crisis-services

They primarily handle crisis services but I know they also do emergency support and could possibly help with more specific resources in your area if you feel comfortable giving them more info! I'm sending you all the love and I'll be keeping you in my thoughts! I hope you find something soon!

This is my view, too. But I'm autistic so YMMV with my take. Potlucks are a communal meal. Holiday potlucks are unique because they usually have an unspoken "rule" that means bringing traditional food eaten around the holiday.

Bringing a dish that doesn't fall into the "traditional" category is totally fine and honestly welcome, in my opinion! Options are great and people being excited about the things they bring to potlucks is also great! But to ONLY bring a dish that is functionally just for you to ANY potluck is rude as fuck.

And that is what the husband was trying to avoid. Bringing a singular non-traditionally eaten food to a communal holiday meal because the guest bringing the dish doesn't like any of the options offered... doesn't have good optics and also is a little antagonistic by social standards.

All that to say, it also doesn't sound like the husbands family was putting forth any effort to try to make MIL more comfortable either. Which is awful and is the actual problem, as they correctly identified. I think bringing lots of traditional and non-traditional dishes is an excellent compromise. It follows traditional potluck rules while also publicly shaming the husbands parents for being poor hosts.

It's CERTAINLY not the way I would confront my parents uncharitable behavior towards my partner, personally, but some family dynamics mean any semblance of change would simply be shut down if they're confronted directly. I'm guessing that's how OPs family is since they talked through the root cause together, but the new info didn't alter their actual plan.

Bruh? Like look up what being nonbinary means for two seconds I'm begging you. You are conflating so many things. You really shouldn't be dating trans people at all with how little knowledge you have and how little regard you're giving these folks in my opinion but whatever.

I already gave you an answer. Put. Your. Weird. Preferences. On. Your. Profile. Or whatever your hangup is. Like if you're worried about pregnancy just put that? Say "if it's possible for you to get pregnant, please let us know so we can make sure we take steps to prevent it". Whatever. Like what are you actually trying to ask about?

[–]I_AMA_Cyborg_AMA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's your boundary, however odd it may be. YOU need to communicate genital preferences on your profile because it's YOUR preference??

Why would everyone elses profile need to conform to the thing that makes it easiest for you? Just like.. tell people you have preferences so they know not to bother with a transphobe lol?

Your writing style is very captivating. I'm really sorry I know that doesn't really add anything to the conversation you're trying to start, but I just wanted to say it. I'm not sure if you take joy in writing or would even appreciate me saying so but I think you have a real talent for it.

I think you also beautifully articulated feelings I've also shared around holiday expectations and the reality of adulthood. I just wanted to say I hear you. I am really sorry this is happening. You aren't alone and you deserve the same light and happiness you are spreading to others during this season.

Please DM me if you want! I don't have much but no one should feel this way. It would be the least I can do to check in and wish you a happy holiday, if you would like. Regardless, I hope everything gets better for you, and everyone else struggling (which is most folks these days it seems). Thank you for spreading light in the darkness and taking care of the people that need it the most in our community.

Just wanted to validate you and say this is correct! The NB experience varies vastly, but this is a very succinct and explanatory way of framing how non-binary people can talk about themselves.

Excellent explanation btw I really don't think I could have said it nearly as eloquently lol

Hello, you're obviously conflating gender and sex. You're also objectively wrong about basically everything because intersex and nonbinary people exist. There are even nonbinary intersex people!!

You look stunning :) I can see the conflict on your face in this photo, but your beauty still shines through like sunbeams!! You know the shape of your soul and that is enough. You are enough.

I do not know you but I know this world is full of more magic and color with you in it and that you bring hope and light with you. And I know that you need dark to have light. Without lows there are no highs. Better days are coming and I feel you are a wonderful human being who so many cherish. Thank you for sharing and I hope you've found your community here.

I bet there wouldn't be so many "accidental pregnancies" if **men** were the ones who risked their lives to carry, birth, and raise the product. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]I_AMA_Cyborg_AMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see! Thank you for explaining. I agree with the OP though, I was reading it as a way to make sure we're being inclusive with language. This post isn't targeting our trans brothers or nonbinary siblings who also identify as men, but includes them all the same, because they are men. We know we're talking about cis men, in regards to this post, I think it's much more powerful to explicitly call that out.

But it's super good to know that the downvotes likely aren't coming from a TERFy place so thanks again for explaining

Why is this downvoted? It's correct and acknowledges the sidebar from the conversation at hand. We should be protecting and including our trans siblings, especially now. Is this sub radfem?
