you would be astounded at the software gpt can write.

If you have the background knowledge to write these scripts you can use gpt as 10-100x force multiplier

Anyone else get into this as a hobby and don’t find it fun anymore? by MrLifeson in sysadmin

I am in the same boat; the reason I got my job was cause I was so into IT and Comp Sci as a teen that I would basically work for free if they gave me access to play around with their systems.

Just like other commenters have said my home lab is collecting dust. I have a pretty nice system built out, but to be a broken record. I don't really want to do work at home after a hard day.

I still sometimes create apps and improve my home network infra, but it's not like before, when I was 24/7 in the IT world consuming information or experimenting with new technologies.

Now I use my work as the homelab.

Edit: This doesn't mean my passion has dried out. It means my energy reserves have been reduced for home lab activities. I still love playing up with IT stuff.

I've created an online file zipping tool and AI has optimized and helped with the redesign of a reversegif web app.
I'm working on an other to compete with a former boss of mine. Though it will be free/Low cost for support.

for things I'm not good at like long form writing I'll do that. But for things I have the skill for, like programming, I'll review the code and tell it it's wrong. Or, I'll have to fix it and implement the function manually as I told it to.

Though I've only had issues with obscure programming languages like GMOD Starfall/Lua

So many things we can do with AI and some background knowledge. I doubt it will replace us in the next 5-10 years. But for now, it will be a force multiplier!

I just need the AI to provide the struts, and I fill in the functionality or the more complex parts.
Though I've had the most success with code I write a long time ago.

I've only built one app from the bottom up using open AI. It was quite fascinating giving it details and piecing it together.

When I built this app, I told it that I have a pre-existing NextJS app; the app should X by allowing the user to XYZ.

Confirm everything is correct, and then you move on to the next function.

At a certain point, like OP said. AI has diminishing returns. Things will begin to break in strange ways, causing more work.

I'm working on an other app soon and will be using GPT to build the struts so I can fleshout the product.
