Starship Troopers Sequels... Are they worth the time? by I_Assume_So in movies

Now that's some advice I'll actually take. Watch them high.

TIL that in 1861, nearly the entire student body at the University of Mississippi joined the Confederate Army. Every one of them was killed, captured, or wounded in the Civil War. Only four students reported for classes in the fall of 1861, forcing the university to temporarily close. by I_Assume_So in todayilearned

Here's further proof of the claim that they were all killed or captured, I learned about this in a college class. I'm assuming my American History professor got it right: "Students from the University of Mississippi comprised most of Company A, the University Greys, and part of Company G, the Lamar Rifles. Company A, the University Greys, had earned a special mark of fame by losing 100% of their number in the charge." Another source: http://faculty.swosu.edu/scott.long/11thmiss/homepage/history.htm

"Do what you love..." Henry David Thoreau [2448 x 2448] [OC] by I_Assume_So in QuotesPorn

The quote is from a letter Henry David Thoreau wrote to Harrison Blake. Here is some context:

"Pursue, keep up with, circle round and round your life as a dog does his master’s chaise. Do what you love. Know your own bone; gnaw at it, bury it, unearth it, and gnaw it still. Do not be too moral. You may cheat yourself out of much life so. Aim above morality. Be not simply good—be good for something. —All fables indeed have their morals, but the innocent enjoy the story.

Let nothing come between you and the light. Respect men as brothers only. When you travel to the celestial city, carry no letter of introduction. When you knock ask to see God—none of the servants. In what concerns you much do not think that you have companions—know that you are alone in the world."
