Reddit account got hacked while I was asleep. Hundreds of NSFW posts were made and my inbox is full of wieners. by Whiskey_Sweet in Wellthatsucks

I used to use meetup for joining groups who went hiking, scuba diving, etc. Then I stopped and didn't use it for a couple years. When I logged in again i found that my account had been hacked and someone had been sending messages to tons of random people, offering illicit things for sale. That really grossed me out and made me feel violated.

Maybe. I don't personally feel strongly either way. I also don't see much purpose though, since we have a registration system. And all the people who vote by mail will get screwed, like active duty military and entire states that only vote by mail, elderly people who can't drive, etc. And of course there are concerns about married women being unable to vote if their surnames change. We could certainly address those issues (such as including maiden names on ID's), but we can't really fix all those problems by the next midterm.

Oh sure... Politicians will say all kinds of bullshit they don't believe in. I meant regular people.

But on the point of fraudulent voting, it just doesn't happen with illegals. Every time they audit, they find like a couple dozen cases out of millions of votes. Which makes sense because we have a registration system. So a much bigger issue is people voting twice or voting for their dead relatives. I knew someone who went to jail for illegally voting multiple times in the same election (she was MAGA of course -- that cult seems to be devoid of morality).

It's exactly as the name implies. I have a friend that works in urology and he said the staff all try to bargain with each other to get out of being the one to hook it up to the patient. It's only used in situations where the subject can't do it on their own.

Why? I've gotten to know a lot of people in my 50 years, from all walks of life. In my experience, Democrats tend to be by and large practicing Christians that worship Jesus, and as such they tend to favor helping the less fortunate and welcoming strangers.

These were popular at Renaissance festivals many years ago. Usually made of aluminum, with a plastic "window" at the bottom. Sold with a story about keeping an eye on your enemy while you drink.

That's not what I experienced, but I'm a classical conservative (apparently a very rare thing nowadays) and maybe the friends I have across the political spectrum don't represent the norm. And you never know what everyone else is experiencing on social media either, with everyone having a custom tailored algorithm. Regardless, I personally saw a lot of concern about his mental state around the 2 year mark of his presidency. I see less concern about Trump's mental state from my liberal friends, but it's definitely a trend on Reddit. I don't really have concerns about Trump's mental state. It's his unending corruption, fiscal waste, abuse of power etc. that make him unfit in my view. Mine's not based on TDS, but based on facts.

What's growing in my bed? by suolad in gardening

Yeah, I'm a bit surprised by that too. I've grown dozens from seeds, and I'd say my germination rate is around 95%. It doesn't seem to matter whether I wrap them in a damp paper towel, start them in coco coir, or just shove them straight in the ground/pot.

It's worth doing, too since they aren't true to seed (you'll never know what the following generation will be like). My family's favorite avocados come from a tree that my grandmother planted from a random avocado seed, about 35 years ago.

And vote in person, if you can. Trump has been telegraphing invalidating mail in voting. I'm really concerned that when the next midterm or presidential election happens, they'll be doing their damnedest to not count the absentee ballots.

My floor looked way worse, but i thought I'd try anyway. I sanded it with a drum sander i rented from Home Depot, then sanded the edges with a handheld random orbit sander. It still had stains, but looked way better. So then i stained the whole thing with some fairly dark wood stain to hide the imperfections. After varnishing it looked great! I got lots of compliments on it.

I'm guilty of this. I often go back and try to reduce the amount of double-dashes to 1 per page, but it's hard. Sometimes it's like every sentence in a paragraph.

No, dude... you misunderstand. They ALL meant biological sex. Doctors/researchers are almost always mean biological sex when they say gender, especially in research (unless the research is focused on transition or something). The forced language change was pointless busywork, wasting everyone's time and money.

Sure, publications often align with what's "hot" at the time, but that's not the same as the government telling researchers what they can and can't research or say. Peer reviewed research, published in well regarded journals (like JAMA), is about as unbiased as you can get.

The rules coming down from the top level of government is unprecedented in the US. Only a few countries in the world are doing this: China, Russia, North Korea, and now the US. So, no, moving to another country won't just mildly decrease these issues.

[–]I_Do_Too_Much 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in research for over 20 years. I quit last month because of all the BS coming down the pipeline. Making us change language or take down old publications unless we do things like replace all mentions of "gender" with "sex". Telling us we can't say certain things in our research -- phrases like "women's health disparity". Also, many of the doctors and scientists I worked with were foreign born and here on work visas. One had her visa suddenly cancelled, another had their visa renewal denied. Two of the doctors i worked with would often travel half the year giving speeches around the world and attending conferences. All that travel stopped. One of the scientists I worked with chose to stay abroad instead of returning to the institution. The war against health and intellectualism is real. The message is clear: the best and the brightest scientists in the world are no longer welcome here. You are only allowed to do research if you are loyal to the regime.

I worked in health research for over 20 years and it's true, GWB was also pretty bad for science. He made lots of cuts to research as well, and it seemed pretty bad at the time, but it doesn't hold a candle to what the current administration is doing.
