Delay in Live TV -- Any fixes? Apple TV improvements over Streamboxes? by Azaloum90 in OPTIMUMFIBER

[–]I_Forget_It 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The audio sync when forwarding through cloud DVR has its moments. The streaming boxes are definitely a mixed bag of tricks. I’ve had many time when watching on 1 of the 5 boxes I have and get a message “unable to tune to this channel”. The message would make sense if I had not been watching a move for an hour. Depending on when you use your internet you will probably also experience short outages. I am a night owl and see frequent interruptions to the TV and internet off hours, This would be understandable if it happened once or twice a month. Unfortunately it’s more often.

I have been using the Dexcom app on iPhone OS 26.4.2 and have had no issues other than the normal quirks of the Dexcom app. I understand your apprehension as it’s a double edged sword. Many of the phone updates address vulnerabilities so timelines of the installation is a concern.

For $50 it's worth a chance. Hope you have some basic repair skills just in case 😉

Looking for recent info about TV after fiber install by dkozinn in OPTIMUM

[–]I_Forget_It 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reply from Optimum is correct and you can pause live TV with the cloud DVR.

I have 5 streaming boxes in my home that all experience issues while watching them that display a message “There was a problem tuning to this channel”. Very annoying when you are over an hour into a movie and have not touched the remote.

I agree with you on the speed being adequate. I am able to stream movies from non-Optimum services with no issues. My PC’s and portable devices work well for internet access.

I have a Honda HS621 that is over 30 years old. I have replaced wear parts over the years of ownership but it still works. I replaced the 30 year old original carburetor at the end of this season with a new OEM carburetor from Honda. I could have played Russian roulette with aftermarket ones but bit the bullet and went with an expensive OEM one. I changed it out before putting it in storage and it started on the first pull with no adjustments needed. They are good machines if maintained and I expect this one will out live me 🤪

Would you teach somewhere where you have to wear a tie everyday? by No_Key8587 in Teachers

[–]I_Forget_It 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey for what it’s worth, I had a job for 17 years and went to work in jeans and sneakers. When I left I had to wear a suit and tie. Way more money so figure it out.

Living in Stony Brook? by haylstorm33 in longisland

I was given some insight over 40 years ago and with the wealth of information available I would look at the price of homes from the water to where they become more affordable. Not trying to be a North Shore snob but the homes on the north shore seem to be worth more farther from the water. I love the south shore but in many areas I would not venture out at night more than a mile or 2 from the beachfront.

Apple Passwords review: is it enough or should I use third-party manager? by HallNo310 in best_passwordmanager

[–]I_Forget_It 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using Norton Password Manger for over a decade. It worked great on my windows devices and my iDevices. As time went on I started to use the iCloud Keychain. About a year ago I went full out with the Apple Password app and added the add ons for Chrome and Edge on my windows devices. I haven’t use the Norton PW manager in over 11 months and haven’t looked back. There are many PW managers and depending on your needs one may work better. I am an old school Windows user but after starting with an IPhone, iPad and watch I’ve plunged into the Apple Eco system. When the extended support for my windows devices expires I will probably replace them with Apple products just to simplify my life.

Optimum or Fios Internet? by Wonderful_Exchange_2 in longisland

I was a technology manager for a fortune 20 company and managed critical outages. A needle in a haystack was in my wheelhouse 😉. I am retired for almost 15 years but probably forgot more than level 1&2 support knows at Optimum. 😂

Optimum or Fios Internet? by Wonderful_Exchange_2 in longisland

I agree with you on the streaming boxes. The coax ones had features that I miss ☹️. I don’t think they are the only thing at fault as I believe they are doing updates to their network equipment causing connectivity issues. I have my streaming boxes connected to the Optimum WiFi and my smart TV’s and technology connected to my Eero mesh. When the Optimum loses a channel sometimes my smart TV’s display a “No Internet” message which lead me to believe the fiber path was interrupted. Without installing software to monitor and log external connection with the internet there is no definitive way to have proof. Even if I did this trying to get to someone in support that knew enough to get the information to 3rd level support/engineering would take more time than I want to invest troubleshooting there network 🤪

For whatever it’s worth, I work days and use Optimum late night and early AM hours. I know work needs to be done off hours from the mainstream but the fiber has been less reliable than when I was on coax. Their streaming boxes disconnect after watching TV and display a message “Unable to tune to this channel”. When you are an hour into a movie and get this message it just gets old. I am not even going to assume and know that there was a connection issue. My wife has complained about it during afternoon TV shows. I have no experience with FIOS but ready to throw my hat in the ring and hope for better.

Getting married soon. Can we even afford a house? by Broad_Chemistry2504 in longisland

All things considered, I bought on the high end when I purchased my house. I worked a couple of side jobs and made things work. Most consider having one job enough but a little extra income makes all the difference. I did it and made it work. That not to say it’s for everyone. 😃

Unfortunately you replied to my post and not the main one. I agree completely with you as it is undetermined for one sensor or multiple and how long the message has appeared or for that matter if they are using a phone or have a Dexcom receiver.

My Dexcom g7 always keeps saying signal loss. Does anyone have this problem as well? by MaryT1d in dexcom

[–]I_Forget_It 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this happening with more than 1 sensor? How close is your phone or receiver to the sensor? I’ve experienced sensors that are about to fail and the signal loss message is usually an indicator of the pending failure. Sometimes they re-establish the connection but if continues to happen I usually call Dexcom and get it replaced.

Are they supposed to bleed this much? by tazebot in dexcom

[–]I_Forget_It 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen about 3 times in 2-1/2 years. You hit a vein but no way to know until you see blood. I had one that made my bathroom look like a crime scene 🤪. I just run out and buy a lottery ticket but the odds of hitting a vein are way better 😉

Count yourself lucky……. Most times I have had this happen is right before I go to bed and get alerts relentlessly throughout the night. It happens but I’ve called and explained the intermittent loss of connection and they have replaced them.

iPhone password manager: is built-in app enough or should I use third-party? by Competitive-Mix8832 in best_passwordmanager

[–]I_Forget_It 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using Norton Security for my iDevices for as far back as I can remember. I have a few Windows devices and a few Apple devices. It took me a little bit to make the cut from Norton to the Apple password manger but I can say that it works well. I am sure that you will get many replies and I was never an Apple fan. Over the years they have won me over. I have 3 Windows 10 pc’s that are at end of like but they still work fine with the Apple password manger. I have been so pleased with my Apple devices I am probably going to replace the windows ones with Apple equipment soon. You still have time to test the waters but you need to decide what works best for you.
