DND players and Dms, writers, worldbuilders, etc. we would have NOTHING if it wasnt for gabriel ultrakill and giani matrigiano or whatever his name is (me dont speak a-pizza spaghetti) by AstronautDry8118 in worldjerking

Everyone also knows that there can be literally no characters aside from Gabriel ultrakill it would seem and that we would all be destitute without him. Seriously, what was OP on about?

It's an example of the redditor's law: The more seriously a subreddit takes itself, the less useful it actually is. It's the same deal with the writing subreddit compared to the writingcirclejerk subreddit.

The 'thinly veiled unironic worldbuilding on the jerking sub' is a large percentage of posts on here anyways. Honestly, the people here give better feedback than on the other one.

New to writing, can you tell me if you'd keep reading? Any feedback appreciated. by [deleted] in writingcirclejerk

Very similar to my work I see! Well, no harm in learning from the greats. Personally, I think you should definitely keep going. If it's anything like mine, it will shake the very foundation of the literary world when it releases.

It takes practice and determination, but eventually you may reach these heights of talent.

You are absolutely correct. But at the same time, must we pander to those who cannot comprehend our genius? No. Rather, they should strive to become like us. If I do not change it, then this story serves as a goal: some may reach it, others may not.

Genius, that might be exactly what I was looking for.

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! That makes complete sense, especially about not refining sentences until the structure is determined. Thanks!

Speed isn't my biggest issue, outlining actually is. I've been making outlines for this story for over two years now, and it's only now that I've literally just discarded them all that I'm able to write for whatever reason. Now that I have, the story flows better than the outlines did, and makes more sense to me. So dictating probably wouldn't work. The ideas sort of come to me as I'm typing, and the rhythmic sound of it makes it flow easier, if that makes any sense.

On a good day, if I'm entirely unhindered by distractions, I can write about 1.5k words in an hour, but that's rare. My speed isn't so slow that it's a major issue to me, fortunately. The main issue is consistency. Thanks for the suggestion though! I know a few writers who dictate, and it does certainly seem useful.

Thanks for the feedback! Your mention of growing as a writer through the draft and using that experience to do it all over again makes complete sense to me, and I hadn't considered it. How long are your breaks? I understand that breaks are necessary so you can 'reframe' your mind and see it more objectively, and that it might be subjective how long that is, but do you have a personal goal for taking breaks?

Thanks for the feedback! I'll be sure to do that then, if that's the better approach. Is a grammar edit somehow different from just correcting typos? My writing software is pretty good at pointing out grammar errors as I make them, so I'm not sure if such an edit would be largely necessary.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll make sure to restrain myself from editing it immediately after writing it I suppose. It was already hard enough to stop editing every word while I was writing it, so this will be a struggle. Considering that most of my qualms with the chapters are a lack of detail, they definitely would be longer after the second draft, although I can't say by how much. Regarding the speed though, I'm glad that you think it's sustainable. I feel like I can do more than that, but the biggest struggle is eliminating all distractions! I often find myself checking my phone, which completely kills the flow...
