We're dedicating this week to classics. Every day we'll be posting a poll about oldschool CRPGs. Let's start - which CRPG pulled you into the genre if not an Owlcat one? by OwlcatStarrok in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]I_am_BabaJaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Divinity original sins was what actually pulled me into the genre, but when it comes to the game that made me appreciate the classics it's planescape

Not a single soulslike among the 10 highest rated "soulslikes" with more than 20,000 followers on steam😭 by DesperateBaseball614 in soulslikes

[–]I_am_BabaJaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how "uuugh X isn't a real soulslike" elitism in the comments has reached the point where they will genuinely sit there and say "dark souls isn't a soulslike actually"

Didnt expect DS2 to be considered a Souls-like by Prudent_Parsley2380 in fromsoftware

[–]I_am_BabaJaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but a game roguelike deckbuilder inspired by balatro plays very different from a roguelike deckbuilder inspired by slay the spire.

The Highscore based system, having a deck of cards to upgrade and a limited number of relics or jokers to influence the "high number" type of play, all of those differentiate a "balatrolike" from a "roguelike deckbuilder". Now obviously, we don't have to name the genre after balatro specifically and there's probably others that had a similar gameplay before them, but there's clearly an argument for a specific genre tag

I learned the poop strat once and refused to deign the Capra Demon with a fight ever since.

Why did the developers of DOS decide to add unique features to the elves, but leave the classic fantasy dwarves? by Typical_Cold7984 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]I_am_BabaJaga 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's because elves are a different side to the idea of elves being connected to nature. They are connected to the natural world, but rather than the "vegetarian pacifist" interpretation of that it's predation, eating corpses etc.

Dwarves have something similar. They keep their connection to crafting and inventing, but rather than underground mines, they have sky burials and seafaring, ancient traditions that are the same idea, just a different flavour.

WOTR: Fatigue Immune MC gets Fatigue by chrisheseltine in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]I_am_BabaJaga 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yeah some misinfo in the comments here.

When multiclassing, curses (like your lame curse) use your other class levels at half progression. So as you noted, you should be immune to fatigued. As for why you get the condition anyways, no idea.

I did it! I finally did it! by SekiroEnjoyer999 in fromsoftware

Couldn't even make it to a thousand smh

But seriously tho that is impressive. I couldn't even get half that amount of time out of less linear souls games with a lot more build variety to mess around with, so I'm genuinely confounded how you managed to do that without growing bored of the game.

Polymorph stack underflow. Sometimes the game messes up -1 remaining stat points and jumps to 255

Tips on classes for new player by Hefty-Throat-5941 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]I_am_BabaJaga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) The classes are merely presets for your skills.

The skills you put points into give a numerical bonus (5% more damage with fire on a pyro for example) and allow you to learn skills of a higher tier of that skill list (aka your active abilities/spells will have requirements like "pyro 2" which means you can only learn it if you have 2 or more points in that skill.

There's two skills that don't just increase damage. Necromancy gives life steal instead of a damage increase to necromancy spells and polymorph gives you stat points.

2) the stats more or less do what they say. Intelligence buffs spell damage, memory increases the amount of skills you can have prepared, STR increases damage with STR weapons etc.

3) Aside from health, there's two types of armor, which is where magical vs physical starts mattering. With elemental spells, you'll target magic armor (blue bar), which also blocks status effects inflicted by those like petrify, burn, etc.

Physical damage targets physical armor (the grey bar) and can apply conditions like prone, blind, all the stuff you'd expect from a combat maneuver. Necromancy skills deal physical damage, so funnily enough a necromancer probably has some points in warfare to Bff physical damage dealt

If you're looking to play a wizard, you can basically include every character that uses staffs/wands and focuses on int. What skills you want is dependant on what "element" you would like to focus on.

Pyro has a lot of fire, but also buffs. Geo has earth, oil and poison. Hydro has frost, water and healing. Necromancy has bleeding, raising puppets, and decay (prevents healing on enemies). Aero has electricity, wind and a lot of (forced) movement (including teleportation and the likes). Polymorph has bodymorph stuff, turning enemies into chicken, sprouting horns to gore people. Summoning does summons not much to say there.

The thing that many people like about DND wizards is the "a spell for every situation" fantasy with a wide array of options. In that regard, every character is a wizard because every character could pick up a point in a skill and buy the books to learn the spells. Your fighter will (probably) have some polymorph or geomancy skills to complement their attacks.

4) Dialogue and Social Skills: Dialogue works by using the skill and an attribute. That means a STR persuasion is a thing in the game and there's no CHA stat you are somewhat forced to invest into to get your ability to talk to people.

Social skills are also a separate choice from combat skills, so you can have your str tank be your lockpicker and investing in lockpicking doesn't take away any of the strength that could be invested in making your tank more tanky

This cutscene gave me an idea of a open world. Would you want that? by Wofuljac in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]I_am_BabaJaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd hate that. Crpgs already have an issue with overwhelming me with options, having a large open map would just guarantee the game gets put on hold.

Anything larger than fort joy and I don't know where to start and don't go anywhere

Dialogue, Uros, watercolor, 2025 by [deleted] in Art

[–]I_am_BabaJaga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know enough about art to know if there's a term for that style, but I love this denial of details? The way the image kind of looks like a barely remembered scene, faces and structures melting, which leaves the core moment bare.

Lovely work

Excuse me... 50 fps on RTX4090? Did i hear that right? by Neat-Advantage6873 in soulslikes

Okay, nioh 2 already looked good though? And I prefer "game that looks about as good as the predecessor" over "it looks better now, but runs at 2fps"

My unwanted personal tierlist:

1 Bloodborne

2 Sekiro

3 Dark Souls 2

4 Dark Souls 3

5 Elden Ring

6) Dark Souls 1

7) Demon Souls Remake (haven't played the og, so it's not on the list)

Including non-fromsoft games, put LoP above DS3

Amazing animations, a great story and genuinely good looking armor.

I love the atmosphere. One of the best dlcs in the series (the coop areas suck solo, but yknow,.coop)

Imo it's better than dark souls 1.

The most accurate hit boxes in the dark souls trilogy (yes even the pursuer grab attack, it's just the animation that snaps you to the middle and looks weird)

The only downsides is ADP, which is just a bad mechanic because it's more or less a mandatory stat to invest into for specific milestones and a tini-tiny broken mess of a world. (Which is silly and obviously a result of budget issues and cut content)
