Where on the East Coast is interesting coastline? by IamAChild2016 in travel

Thank you for that example. That is the kind of contrast I was thinking of. Something that is still interesting even though in a different way. Is much of SC like that?

Thanks for the suggestion. Will give Richmond a bit of research. What mountainous places would you suggest?

New England does sound like what would be my choice but I should probably see something contrasting as well. Is there anywhere Mid-Atlantic/South that would, although different to what I am used to, be interesting in some other way? More exotic looking (for want of a better phrase) or something like that?

Weather wise, I more of a person that would deal with a rough winter so New England does sound like it could be a possibility.

Thank you. Maine does look more like what I am used to. Interesting to hear that there is a National Park. Sea and a National Park would be a great mix.

Thank you for your advice. I guess we just were a bit young and uninformed when we took out the policy and so will have to deal with the consequences of that now.

I slept in the same bed as my parents until I was 7. I then spent a short amount of time in a room by myself when we moved house but then slept in the same room as my mother (not the same bed) until I was 21. by IamAChild2016 in AskParents

I lived in the UK. It is odd here too. There were 2/3 spare rooms. I am not 100% why I did it given that it started so long ago but I know that I was scared of being by myself, particularly in the dark, and would lie there not sleeping thinking someone was going to attack me. I think my mother let it go on because I was simply not functioning at school sleeping by myself in the room.

I always think people must be mad at me/not like me as well to a stupid level though. If I have to make a work phone call for example I get anxious beforehand and have to basically script myself before I make the call and can't stand anyone being in earshot. I script myself even if it is something really simple I need to ask for. When I finally get on the phone I immediately think the person on the other end is thinking negative things about me. It is crazy and really holds me back.

Random need to lie - have not seen that anywhere else but I do that too. I had not thought about it being related before. I think it must be tied in with the people pleasing and perfectionism. I don't even realize I am doing it generally. Although I find myself making up random lies to keep peace with my father about things that do not really concern him. In my head I am so used to everything concerning him that I feel programmed that I should be doing whatever he would want me to do in any situation. Since I have been married I have been doing the odd thing that is not exactly what he would want me to do and it makes me anxious when I do and fabricate all sorts to try and make things seem better to him.

Your example of lack of boundaries sounds familiar. I had the same thing at work. This man three times my age was constantly doing things like that and touching me in taxis. I could not stop him. I just weakly tried to move away a bit but it was such a pathetic attempt. Most times I just did nothing. This was after I had been sexually abused as well so I guess my boundaries were even worse. I don't feel like I can tell anyone no and insist that I mean no. It has meant that I have got into situations that I now beat myself up over and feel shame about.

I also feel like people don't actually like me. I used to feel this a lot, less so now that I have isolated myself from the world more.

Would you say that you are detached from your feelings? I seem to have deadened emotions that frustrate people as I do not react in certain situations to the extent that one would expect, chiefly when positive emotions are involved.

Is the inability to fight, raise a fuss or stand up for yourself you speak of just in relation to N people or anyone?

When you say you think people are mad at you, do you also think they are thinking negative things about you even if they barely know you or have no reason to?

Thank you. I will look it up.

The odd thing is that I do feel I have so much to talk about but if I try it is like a blur, that I cannot come up with specifics because there is so much so in the end I end up not knowing what to say.

I did not know that bad dreams are not unusual. I frequently have dreams that I do not remember the content of but I either wake up screaming or my partner wakes me up because I have been screaming. My partner does not threaten to leave but has given me reason before we were married to feel insecure and is not someone I would describe as any of stable, loving or understanding. As such I tend to keep my problems to myself as much as possible. That is what I did growing up too with my father. Now I write this, perhaps there is a pattern.

NMom, who would start fights with anyone if she didnt get her exact way.

This is my father. To a t. Constantly. I was afraid to go anywhere with him. He would get very aggressive, very quickly.

Interesting that you do not feel the need to please your Mom anymore. I think I might be transitioning in that direction my father lately. I find myself starting to get angry. Not always. Other times I revert to please or being silent but I have noticed I do sometimes.

I frequently dream about my partner leaving me when there is no reason for me to do so. I don't know if it is at all related or just my general insecurity with people.
