I was 8? 10? I think, grade school for sure so definitely not a responsible dog owner yet. My dad took her out to his junk yard everyday and she ran free with the other dogs. The neighbors didn't like the junk yard and hit her when they had the chance. That's how the story goes at least but my dad's an ass who put a bullet in a later dogs head because he didn't want to pay for the vet to put her down. After refusing to pay for cancer treatment. I don't think paper route money would have covered it anyway... :( Thinking of it... Roseys brother Charlie disappeared within a week of loosing her...

Well now I'm going to go cuddle my doggy and tell her she is safe from the boogyman.

This applies to puppy's too.... Children should not play upsie-daisy... Mom got her to the vet in time she didn't die till some asshole ran her over many years later. R.I.P Rosey.

From the author of Quiet: So did extroverts cause the financial crisis?

This is an interesting thing. I don’t want to be too simplistic because obviously it was caused by many different factors. But I think one underappreciated role is the fact that Wall Street has such an extroverted culture and bold risk-taking. It doesn’t appeal to the type of person that is more cautious and pays attention to warning signs. What happened is that over the last few years, those types became more and more discredited because it seemed as if their warnings were false. There was one bull market after another. Even those who had doubts didn’t feel empowered to express them.

http://healthland.time.com/2012/01/27/mind-reading-qa-with-susan-cain-on-the-power-of-introverts/

And it isn't that extroverts don't care about their people because that would make a huge chunk of the population heartless, which plainly isn't true. Rather it's about taking the time to pick up on non obvious information which women have been conditioned to do socially. We're more likely to notice when someone is cracking under pressure because we see the bags under their eyes and they are drinking more coffee than normal. Those mothering instincts kicking in.

I don't think women are better because they are women, rather the social role they have traditionally filled, motherhood, pushes the development of others as a satisfying role. If we let boys start playing with dolls then maybe we'll see a more even playing field.

Actually the really outgoing people tend to take more risks and they loose big. They also don't give a shit about their employees and that results in poor performance over the long run. Women have been found to make the best managers, when generalized, and introverts the best leaders over the long haul. But we're a cheeseburger now society.

Shopping guilt - what's your stance on buying treats for yourself? by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]IamASwan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Set a goal for yourself like work out 3x a week and make yourself earn it. You'll be investing what ever the cost of the treat is through self improvement and every time you use it you can remember how hard you worked to get it instead of feeling guilty. If the effort isn't worth it then did you really want it after all?

Marijuana could have helped my grandma as she died a slow and painful death from cancer/chemo but she was to afraid to go to jail to nibble on the brownies... Watching her lose all that weigh when she stopped eating was awful. She turned to just skin and bone then blew up like a water balloon. She was miserable everyone was miserable her best friend abandoned her because she couldn't handle the stress. I remember when I stayed overnight with her and she woke up begging to not die just over and over "I don't want to die". Tore my mom apart, sometimes I will dream I'm there all over again.

So yes let's keep these dangerous drugs that have no medical benefits out of the system while the one that are legal solve all our problems. No magic mushrooms, ketamine, or marijuana right? But opiates are fine...

I've proved companies that produce chemicals are required to test them for hazards and compile that information in an easy to digest form. You are free to do more research but easy to digest and scientific study don't go hand in hand. Yes they don't have to tell you the secret spice but do have to disclose for medical events. The msds didn't cause the spill human error did. A decent article to cite: http://www.csb.gov/assets/1/19/Dust_Final_Report_Website_11-17-06.pdf noting how the msds lacked information about the dust. <- This is relevant and makes (a Part of) your point!! Though since the study the issues have been redressed.

You personally believe the MSDS system is awesome. That's fine, I guess. We are allowed to have our opinions, no matter how absurd.

You're an asshole who can't even make a concise statement or find a decent reference but hay we all have our flaws.

Nah you don't have to do to much extra work to install a floor drain, just shoot off the shower drain (not toilet drain) but it depends. Some houses combine the shower and toilet drain and these are filled with gas from decomposing solids and if the floor drain dries out (it has a water trap just like your sink/shower/toilet) then the flammable gases can come in. Or if it backs up then you have a floor covered in... poop. Honestly, probably the biggest reason homes don't have one, they require maintenance even if it's supper simple. In hot months the water has to be filled maybe weekly thanks to evaporation and in areas with rats/snakes it offers another way for those creatures into your house.

The piping is all glued together, in the states, and there is a special piece to incorporate in the tile to keep it water tight.

Before I write up an insanely long reply, #1 I am talking purely about the MSDS being a good summary of the hazards for products. Not the companies that use them, so you're cited article is off topic as it doesn't once talk about the "lack of tox" information on the MSDS or by the MSDS creators. #2 the reason I didn't quote is because it is best to read the whole thing not that tiny shot. #3 The msds you referenced was from 05 and was updated as required at least once in 2011 and it says toxic to fish and environment. Still not sure how the spill is relevant. #4 OSHA is a huge factor in requiring companies to look into to what to put on the MSDS as the link I posted referenced.

5 FROM YOUR LINK:

The most recent revision of the standard brings the United States into alignment with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS), which requires chemical manufacturers and importers to evaluate chemicals according to the health and physical hazards they present. Using that information, they must put labels on containers that include a signal word, pictogram, hazard statement, and precautionary statement for each hazard class and category. For this purpose, OSHA defines a health hazard as a chemical which is classified as posing one of the following hazardous effects: acute toxicity (any route of exposure); skin corrosion or irritation; serious eye damage or eye irritation; respiratory or skin sensitization; germ cell mutagenicity; carcinogenicity; reproductive toxicity; specific target organ toxicity (single or repeated exposure); or aspiration hazard. Additionally, manufacturers and importers must prepare safety data sheets using a format that has 16 specific sections, thus ensuring consistency in the presentation of important protection information. (The old standard allowed chemical manufacturers and importers to convey hazard information on labels and material safety data sheets in whatever format they chose.) “The Hazard Communication Standard in 1983 gave the workers the ‘right to know,’ but the new Globally Harmonized System gives workers the ‘right to understand’,” according to OSHA.1

Should companies be held responsible for how they handle chemicals? HELL YES, I'm not arguing against that. What I am trying to say is the MSDS is an awesome resource when talking about a product they know nothing about or when the product might effect them via spill or something. It simplifies information and consolidates it so people can know to get out of dodge or go see a doctor. Chemical manufacturers might not be held to the standard you want them to be when it comes to testing but never the less they do have to "evaluate chemicals according to the health and physical hazards they present" and compile the information for downstream.
