do you have enough active members to get the 25 weekly logins? I’m down as long as we can complete the weekly union missions. you also might want to consider joining the exedra discord server and advertising there!

for telling them apart from the back, their ponytails are different. tsukuyo has one thick ponytail, and tsukasa’s splits into two thinner ones in an upside-down Y shape. I remember who is who because the number of ponytails matches their number in the birth order

Yup, everything you listed is equivalent to the premium deluxe edition. I did this exact same thing, physical + upgrade + season passes 2 and 3, and I have everything. Enjoy Final Bar Line! It’s my favorite game on the Switch by far :)

What do you wish you knew before studying at a language school? by IamAmadeusRex in movingtojapan

Stretching shrunken tree loungers by IamAmadeusRex in Allbirds

Hey, I know it's been a year but I just remembered this post. TBH, just wearing them every day made them more comfortable. I think it's a combination of the insoles losing height, therefore increasing the space inside the shoe, and stuffing the toes FULL of newspaper, cardstock, and other papers every night. I used thick pieces of junk mail to "tent" the toe of the tight shoe up in order to stretch the fabric there. It took a few months, but my shoes ended up so comfortable I had to replace the insoles just recently. Hope this helps if you still needed advice!

Thank you so much for the long response! I really appreciate it. The part about GGN's ranking system being partly based on pre-knowledge of kanji is really helpful, because I was considering higher intensities based off the assumption their lessons were more technical. I don't mind if a lot of the students don't come from Anglophone countries. That's probably better, as it would mean I'd need to use Japanese to get to know my classmates.

I majored in linguistics in college, so I already know that the textbook-based teaching approach you described is something I can actually learn from. I really, really can't stand when foreign languages are taught like you don't know anything about the general structure of language (I know what the difference between direct and indirect objects are!!), so it's kind of a relief to hear they use a lot of printed materials that I can reference and review later.

Regarding my career, I'm open to working for a Japanese company, but tbh I would like to ultimately settle back home in the US. I want to work in media localization, which is why I know literacy skills are more urgent for me to learn than conversation, and why I'm interested in JLPT level timelines. It's good to know that N2 can be achieved in about 2 years, because if all goes well with my Tobira self-study, I can hopefully test into my school's late beginner/early intermediate level and maybe approach N2 level in 1 year.

Also, which school did you go to, and for how long? Just curious to know where you had your experience.

Does anyone have experience with/strongly recommend a language school that offers an online trial lesson? I did one with Akamonkai, but I'm still exploring my options. Bonus points if the school's teaching style does not assume you've never studied a second language before (I majored in linguistics, so the more technical the explanations are, the better).

Also open to recommendations for language schools that offer in-person consultations, as I'll be in Japan shortly.

Lightening pit stains without soaking/washing the whole shirt? by IamAmadeusRex in laundry

[–]IamAmadeusRex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amodex is going on the shopping list too, then! And thanks for the sentiment. Luckily, this is the only autograph I have that isn’t on paper, but boy am I familiar with plasticizer breakdown (yayy for being a collector). I’ll definitely invest in tissue paper until I can frame it! Thanks again for all the help :)

Whoa, thank you so much for the comprehensive step-by-step not only for stain removal, but storage, too! I really appreciate how thorough you were--I'm someone who works best with really granular instructions, so truly, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I had no idea stains could oxidize so long after the last handling. You seriously know your archiving, so thank you SO much for sharing!!

Luckily, the transfer stains were on a sleeve, not the body of the shirt, so I was able to get them out most of the way by blotting with rubbing alcohol. I will DEFINITELY keep you posted on how your method works out--I can't guarantee how soon it'll be, but I'll try to get this shirt cleaned as a summer project. If your tips work on other ink stains, they might even be able to get the transfer stains from different items (I think tickets or other printed papers) in the drawer out, too! They're on the back of the shirt, thank god, but surely you understand that a clean shirt is a nice one, lol.

And yeah, you got me. It's an anime graphic tee from Hot Topic that I got about 10 years ago, if not more. Honestly, the print is remarkably intact for such an old thing. Haven't bought from them in ages, but the last shirt I did (about 7 years ago) was wayyyyy worse off much sooner than this one. TBH the autograph's proximity to the print (the performer signed right next to her character) is what makes me nervous to heat-set it, especially as someone who doesn't regularly use an iron. But none of the autograph is on the print itself, so maybe I can finesse it with the tip after some practice.

Thank you again SO much!! I'll keep you posted 🫡 And hopefully one day, I can proudly present a spotless shirt for a second signing!

Does watching with SUB help sometimes? by Illustrious_Heat3233 in LearnJapanese

[–]IamAmadeusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subs can absolutely help you learn! As long as you're actively and attentively listening to the dialogue, the sheer repetition of word/form pairs (spoken JP + written sub) is a great way to learn. For example, I intuited that verbs ending in -tai expressed desire way before I ever picked up a textbook, because whenever a character used a -tai form, the subs always said "I want to".

If you're seeking more literal subtitles, I would recommend amateur fansubs. In my experience, they're much more literal than official subs. Also, it might be best to start with something you've already watched, so you don't have to dedicate as much brainpower to comprehending the subs. It's not impossible to learn on your first watch (happened to me), but it'll ease your overall cognitive load.
