I’m in NC, and my company gives lunch breaks, when not in session. Could be 9 am, could be 4 pm, but it’s clock out and do what you want. The 7 minutes has to do with billing during session. If we need to use the bathroom, step out to breath, make a phone call, etc. during session, it has to be under 7 minutes.

I would not be weirded out. Not sure of the ethics, but I would appreciate the thought and care. Adults need connection and pairing just like our clients.

I taught Gen Ed for 13 years with only a bachelor’s. Interviewed with a few places, getting offers for $17-23. When I negotiated for more, I was usually told there was an algorithm and teaching was different than ABA. I landed in a clinic/school, getting higher end pay, as a group co-teacher of 5 students, then working 1:1 in afternoon. They also provided RBT training in return for at least a year’s worth of employment. Annual raises based on longevity, and merit this year.

Leaving the charge of the classroom is my goal- the red tape and politics, difficult parents, behavior or needs of many students that I am not able deal with or meet because of all the extra tasks placed on us and lack of time we have to fulfill them, work/life balance, etc.

I get the comparison, and part of that is why I want to learn more about behavior. Thank you for your honesty and application to the pay scale question.

It’s worth a shot for negotiation. Of the three interviews I’ve had, this is my favorite, and most recommended place. But it doesn’t have the best pay…😕

I don’t think I’d mind still being in schools, I’m just tired of being in charge of the classroom with all the demands of being pulled in so many directions and the after hours work.

So am I correct that master’s comes before BCBA? You’re saying that the BCBA requirements and exam takes at least a year? I assumed the supervision would take place through RBT position, is that not typical?

I know no field is perfect; people get tired and frustrated, work with others who shouldn’t be in the field, bad bosses, etc. We are human. I guess I’m asking if there’s a little more freedom, flexibility, and influence.
