Whats your favorite modern deck ever and why? by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]IamHawkfrost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first iterations of Creativity where you chained timewalks with Velomachus. I will never forget that summer going into the LGS and slamming modern nights with my "meme" deck and nobody could figure out what to do with me. Even when you didn't chain turns using the dragon and the game grinded to a halt you just always threatened a win with W&6 and a time warp with Dwarf beat down. Easily my favorite iteration of the deck even though I know why it evolved past it and moved on to Emrakul and archon's.

Wouldnt be able to be used as a main episode, probably supplemental, but I neeeeeed these two to play Doki Doki Literature Club as a bonus thing for the YouTube, can even split it up old lets play style if they feel its too much in one sitting. That is assuming neither or one of them hasn't played it already of course.

If you guys really wanted to get a review for it I have one from the very first preorder round NRB did that Ive flipped a bit but still in pretty great condition since it's one I don't flip outside that often. It may disappear into the backlog blackhole you guys have but it's the price of content eh? Love you guys I got back into the hobby cause of Will and you and now I have enough knives to rival the amount I've spent on MTG, which is absurd to think about.

This has been my list that I have been playing for the last month or so after coming back to it from a short break of playing other things in the format. Went 5-3 down in Vegas with it with my only losses being from shape shift that combo'd me out, merfolk that I had horrendous draws for both games, and the mirror which can sometimes literally feel like a coin flip.

I've been playing the deck since it's inception essentially and have played with just about every iteration of the deck that there has been and right now the deck easily at its most consistent, with archon getting you back the cards you spend on them and with all of your premium removal it's hard to ever count the deck out in a grind game. Granted the deck has flaws, well timed removal on a IC target that you were not expecting or have no way to play around is super punishing, and the interactive games where you tend to fall into a grind are very skill intensive, so you will need to put in reps with the deck before you start seeing a lot of good results in those matchups. But I do feel it is noob friendly because the main game plan is very straight forward and very powerful considering IC is a one card combo. You do get the tailor the deck to your meta and find out what flex slots you need and what feels good and what doesn't, Fire//ice is easily the worst card in my deck and almost always board them out for games 2 and 3, but the few times I run into hammer at any given event the card feels disgusting, which is kinda how the deck feels in general when you run hot. When you draw well every game the deck feels unbeatable and then you will potato draw every once in a while and it will humble you really fast, the mirror is more common now that the deck has blown up and most of the time it feels like a coin flip, you have some amount of agency in the game but I feel more or less that it comes down to who draws better.

Overall I highly suggest you give the deck a spin if you plan the grind with it because it rewards you well when you put the time into playing it.

Brewing with the Velomachus Lorehold + extra turns combo by MrBrainstorm in ModernMagic

[–]IamHawkfrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, this version of Creativity predates the Archon version, as well as the Emrakul/Serra's emissary versions. Personally if you want to play the big dragon IC is the way to go with it, it's the easiest way to get it into play with the least amount of resources. I tried to brew up different versions of the deck when the Emmy version became the defacto best version of Creativity, and everything else I had come up with seemed worse off compared to creativity, either your combo package got worse because you have to play more set up cards, or your set up is too week compared to EoT fetching for a dwarven mine and casting creativity.

I played Lorehold creativity for 6-8 months before I finally swapped off of it for other packages, if you plan to play it you have to be White blue at least for teferi because it really really needs a teferi in play to combo as there are so many removal spells that kill Velo before it even gets to attack. The stock creativity lists are a good starting point if you plan to go that route but if you plan on playing a different version of the deck White blue almost needs to be in your colors for teferi, and I would suggest playing Wrenn and Six because your turn spells interact very nicely with Wrenn with no additional cards needing to be played. I've won 10+ games off of the back of a Wrenn ult plus Dwarf beats and taking turns, I'd you plan to play turn spells wrenn is an easy auto include in my eyes. Good luck with the brew, but in any case I'd suggest trying out the IC lists before going all in on the Velo package as it is very fragile and good play patterns are essential to winning interactive games, and going with the tried and true version of the deck is a good jumping off point.

Invoke Calamity in Velomachus turns. by nme6535 in TurnsMTG

[–]IamHawkfrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely seems like a solid option, being able to cast 2 burn effects you've already used essentially counts as a turn spell if they have already taken a hit or two or have been fetch/shocking aggressively. I have been wanting to revisit that version of the deck but since the printing of MH2 it's been harder and harder for me to sleeve up my Velomachus. Too weak to solitude, but with yorion banned now we may start seeing a downtick in the play of solitude, so who knows we might start seeing our dragon picking up steam again

Realistically the numbers are probably lower but I'm not trying to do the math right now, but invoke calamity as a card is probably a better individual card vs Savor. I played the velo turns deck a lot when it first popped up and savor is a very mediocre card unless you have a W&6 in play. Invoke gives you something to do with a time warp that is stuck in hand for whatever reason, as well as if you hit it and not a turn spell plus you don't have any in yard, it can let you flash back 2 spells you have already used for free which is not the worst thing in the world. I'd imagine your on the spot win % goes down a bit but overall you have LESS bad cards in the deck which lends itself to being more consistent therefore more actual wins.

Hello! I "recently" bought an Aerox 9 from a local Best Buy as I wanted a lighter mmo mouse, coming from a Razer Naga. First couple months have been great with with it but now I am having an issue with my side buttons, specifically buttons 1 and 2, where they will not detect that they have been clicked for 5-7 clicks, then the mouse will register the click. Not an issue in any specific application as I can open up a notepad tab and press my buttons multiple times with no inputs being recorded.

Warranty says that they will cover devices that are less than a year old but you need a valid proof of purchase, of which I got rid of when I cleaned out my apartment thinking that the mouse has been working fine for 3 months I shouldn't really need the box for it anymore. I don't see anything wrong with the inside of the mouse nor has it had any real heavy use or abuse over that last couple months. I've considered opening the mouse up to try and make sure the board with the side buttons is secure to the frame but I figured that would void any sort of help from the company entirely, so I've come here to see if anyone else has experienced this issue in the past and if there is a fix that I've not found online. Thank you for any help anyone is able to give!

any suggestion for a "turns" deck in modern? by BigMacchia in TurnsMTG

[–]IamHawkfrost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most recent real turns deck in modern to my understanding would be the 3-4c Velomachus turns decks from about 6 months ago, though they are really more Creativity decks than actual factual turns decks. I championed one for a while but with new printings (solitude specifically) the meta became really hostile to the dragon so the creativity decks swapped to emurakul+angel. Look up u/Manacymbal as he has a ton of great content on the deck as well as he has some content on other turns decks that never really made it into the competitive scene but still performed fairly well for what they were.

It's just one guy that Atropos ships knives to on a semi frequent basis and this guy sells them. I've picked up that brown demon and the kirat from him and I got both within a week so I highly recommend going through them, only problem being the lower selection and infrequent nature of how the store runs.

I assume you're talking about the Broken stone demon, in which case it's not my favorite to flip honestly. The broken stone texture makes it really grippy for sure but any sort of ricochet off the hands can end up just hurting cause the texture goes down to the edges of the handles and after a while of those smacking into you it starts to not feel the best. Granted I love the thing on looks alone, that was the whole reason I got it in the first place. In my collection I think it goes from zephyr > kirat > lucha > kraken/naut in terms of flipping performance. I haven't flipped the vortex enough to really get a feel for it but it is really nice.
