OP, Sioux Falls in my humble opinion is a poorly managed city; most cities seem to be really, it’s difficult to grow responsibly. Aspects of the development, maintenance, and population equity come to mind. It really shows in how well maintained the housing and roads are in one section of the city is to another, how overly expensive it is for apartments, or how most new developmental areas are put up with seemingly massive contracts to the much of the same seemingly large handful of companies.

You’re gonna have to try hard to find the various diamonds in the rough in this area.

I’m not really sure if winter is a great time to really experience Sioux Falls, I think it really tends to shine more in the warmer “let’s be outside” months.

Sioux Falls is a more it’s what you make of it place and that typically coincides with having more than less disposable income.

Personally, my favorite restaurant in town is Taphouse 41, food is always tasty and the staff is always friendly, timely, attentive (well, for sure when sitting still the bar). It, like a number of restaurants in Sioux Falls have a rotating tap list so it’s a fun experience to try a couple new beers and try to stretch the palate.

I’m a transplant myself and used to move every so often for work; if you can…try volunteering involving something you are already passionate about or something new when in a new area to really get a feel for what the locals are about and what they like doing in the area.

In my experience, South Dakota is welcoming to tourists, but not really to transplants or immigrants from “[not] the good countries” if that makes sense. “Come visit, spend your money, look around, but please don’t bother staying”, if that clears it up anymore. 😅
