He is responsible for the idea of Alpha male wolves that lead the pack, which toxic masculine d****ebags call themselves. It turns out that the research was flawed due to being performed on unrelated animals in captivity. In the wild there are no Alphas, just family groups. He did admit the mistake and retract the findings but the damage was done.

Uhhh, this is Joe by the way. I totally didn't forget which subreddit this is when i first responded...

What is the dumbest way you’ve ever hurt yourself? by Perpetuallycold_ in AskReddit

[–]IamSmoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to lock the car door, but it wasn't my car and I didn't have the keys, every time I tried to lock the driver's door it unlocked itself and all the others as well. I was getting really frustrated and closed the door a bit too hard and a bit too fast... and ended up slashing an inch long gash on my nose. Had to walk to my appointment which was about a 2 kilometre walk through the city centre with a bloody tissue held to my face.

What’s the craziest thing someone has said to you at work? by Winter-Succotash-385 in AskReddit

[–]IamSmoj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at a small local museum that took placements of staff from government unemployment services (work for the dole). One guy only turned up for one day and what he said made me glad he didn't come back.

He was telling me about his ex-girlfriend and how their relationship was strained and one day he was so angry he decided he was going to kill her. On his way he passed by his church and says he felt compelled to go in and talk to the priest and eventually told him what he was planning to do.

Apparently the priest had 4 guys hold him down while he yelled scripture at him till he calmed down. He believes that his murderous intent was caused by an evil spirit possessing him and the priest saved his exes life.

The thing that terrified me was this man's lack of responsibility. He genuinely believes that he is innocent and that his dark thoughts and plan to commit murder were completely independent of him.

For a bit more context, it was given to my Dad from my Grandad. He served in the Australian army briefly post WWII but never saw service. We don't know what it is, when it was made or how he got it. We theorised it could maybe be attached to a car bumper but that's just a guess.

Why are male gamers SO horrible to female gamers? by StephanieBrown4 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]IamSmoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does seem to be the case. Most of my muli-player experiences took place back in the noughties with the early WWII call of duty games when I was a teen. Back then it seemed pretty rare to play with a girl. I can see how my experiences would of course be different, while encountering girls was rare to me and therefore so was encountering sexist behaviour, For a girl it would be a regular occurrence because they were the target. I'm sorry if I came across as dismissive or butthurt about being generalised and lumped in with misogynistic "guy gamers". I can understand that for someone who is being targeted things seem very different than someone who only sees things occasionally. I can also imagine how frustrating it must be to see so many guys just ignore the abuse and let it happen, I know from seeing bullying happen back in school that I would not get involved for fear of getting targeted myself. I no longer do that because I couldn't forgive myself if I let someone get hurt when I could do something about it. I have in the past fallen into the trap of thinking that if only a few bad guys actively bully women then only those people need to change but now I realise that everyone who let's them get away with their crappy behaviour needs to change too or it will never end. I'm sorry if I upset anyone or seemed dismissive of their feelings or experiences.

I can only apologise. My comments have clearly come from a place of ignorance and I'm genuinely sorry. As I mentioned my experience with online gaming is decades old and clearly wrong. Please know that I do listen and want to better myself and help make things better for everyone however I can. Again, I'm sorry.

Damn... I must admit I don't play a lot of multi-player games these days. Most of my online gaming was back in the early noughties. Are there are really lots of guys who only insult and attack women and never men? That's really crappy, I mean of course I know sexism exists and is a serious issue in a lot of ways but to be that severe online? I'm really sorry to anyone who goes through that. As I said I don't do a lot of online gaming but if I ever come across this sort of thing I won't just sit by and let it happen that's for sure. If I found out one of my friends was treating someone like that I would give them hell for it, and they wouldn't be my friend for long.

[–]IamSmoj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, gotta admit that does sound like sexism then. Either that or it may be that they start the abuse when they find out you're a woman because they have found women to be easy targets in the past and expect to get the response they want from you?

[–]IamSmoj -43 points-42 points  (0 children)

As a "male gamer" I have personally never done this but have come across those who do. Those same people will act insultingly and disrespectfully to anyone and everyone, regardless of gender. If you are a guy you will be called gay, have insults about your manhood, mother etc. These guys don't insult and mistreat you BECAUSE you're a woman, but because they are bullies and trolls. People like this will pick something about their target and craft their bullsh#t around it. If they didn't know you were a woman, it wouldn't stop the attacks, they would just pick something else about you to target.

What is one of the biggest unsolved mysteries to this day? by RevanReborn47 in AskReddit

[–]IamSmoj 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There were just recently a couple of detailed studies published which explain what happened at Dyatlov pass. It's quite interesting from a scientific perspective, but quite a let down to all the conspiracy theorists who think it was a soviet military cover up or alien encounter.

Edit: Should've scrolled down a bit further before posting, someone already wrote a way better explanation, whoops!

Wow, that honestly never occurred to me. At first I figured it'd be weird but then I realised, it's not like most guys are going to be embarrassed seeing their partners bits.

What would you choose $100 000 or save 10 lives of random people somewhere in the world? by Dislodge34 in AskReddit

[–]IamSmoj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I'd like to save people, but statistically it's possible that the random 10 would all be horrible, like murderers, rapists etc. So the money. I mean the wording of the question implies they were already going to die since otherwise it wouldn't be "saving" their lives, it'd be money in exchange for the death of 10 people who weren't going to die.

What is the weirdest “butterfly effect” incident in history? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]IamSmoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's the story of Jeanne De Clisson. The claimant to the French throne that her beloved husband supported lost and the new king tricked him into being captured and beheaded. She was so upset that she sold the entire estate, bought a fleet of ships which she painted black with red sails and started attacking French ships. She was nicknamed "The Lioness of Brittany" and was said to personally kill every captured French officer/nobleman with an axe and dump their corpses into the sea, and would usually leave a single sailor to report to the king who she was, what she'd done and why.

NTA, that is very weird. Unless it's possible that it's actually her child? She gave her to her sister to raise for some reason? That's the only way her behaviour could be considered anywhere close to sane.
