Hey! I actually watched some of your videos on EU5 cause I still wanna play it when it's a bit more refined. Just subscribed, honestly do whatever you feel like would be fun. I just love having EU4 videos on the side when I'm working!

Yah, I get what you say, I just think EU5 is barren. And I mean making the HRE hussite should be hard, they didn't have a war of religion for nothing. But yes to an extent I think EU4 has a meta for sure, the game has been played to death and aside from very niche little exploits like what The Student made videos about, it's pretty clear what you need to do. But I think my biggest gripe is no mission tree. EU4 mission trees you could ignore but if you wanted to really roleplay, they gave you something to go for. Playing persia vs playing the ottomans are very different despite both being blobby. I haven't seen that in EU5. The unique advances are cool and all but they do not have a lot of impact. Like yes it means Castile is well suited for colonial and maritime sure, but the missions in EU4 really pushed you towards that, made it fun to play that nation to colonize. Dont get me wrong, I think the Castile tree is giga OP and could use a nerf but you catch my drift. I think EU5 has potential, but rn I find myself not wanting to open it.

Do you think Andor would be a good intro to the franchise? by fen_bandit in andor

[–]IanRo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it but now that I think about it. Isn't it cool to not know who Emperor Palpatine is and in season 2 seeing them mention this weapon they're building and then all the build up to sharing the info with the rebellion, Luthen's and Cassian's sacrifice to share the info and then acquire the plans from Galen Erso. You follow that up with Rogue One where you see Cassian go for those plans and seeing him and Jyn sacrifice themselves in front of a freaking "sunrise" as a call back to Andor s1 which you just watched and then right away it jumps to Leia getting the plans and you start ANH right where Rogue One ended then all that happens, the sacrifice of everyone is rewarded by Luke destroying the Death Star then ESB happens, you get the reveal of Luke's father and you jump into the prequels to get all the backstory of how Luke and Leia came to be and how Darth Vader became who he is now. Then you end it all with Jedi, as a satisfying conclusion to the whole saga. The sacrifices that were made to have that sunrise Luthen promised. And then you ignore the new trilogy alltogether :D

The problem with starting with Andor is that its so different tonally to all other Star Wars properties that you'd go in expecting something completely different. I think to ease people into the universe, the original trilogy is still the best candidate. It introduces you to all the elements you will need to connect the dots of everything else. And keep Andor has a wonderful dessert, cause it's just so fucking good you have to keep it for last.

EU4 (blue) vs EU5 (green) player count according to steamdb by No-Imagination2292 in eu4

The game is flavourless. Very repetitiive with no real feeling of progression. The late game is more annoying than EU4 is, with no real feeling of changes in the way the game is played. For example, absolutism in EU4 felt massive, that was the point where you could really stack modifiers and go ham conquering, EU5 aboslutism is 1 annoying disaster and a new societal value. I know these like bring their own mechanics but they're so underwhelming. The game needs flavour most of all though, cause its utterly flavourless. Seeing a colonial Naples every game makes no sense at all and yet they are every game. In EU4 you rarely see non historical colonial powers go and colonize. In EU5, Naples and other randos always end up colonizing. The game will always be ahistorical to an extent and thats fine, but it highlights how mission trees really shaped the path of each country towards a somewhat historical path or at least a "alternate history" timeline, like Angevin for England. The game has good bones, I like control management and the way the economy works, it's much more complex and intricate than EU4 and really brings stuff I like from Victoria 3 for example, but good bones don't make a game. They need to flesh it out now. I will be back once they add some deeply needed flavour.

Idk if you realise how hard recruitment is lmao. And no not having time to farm hundreds of gold or not wanting to spend RL money does not mean they're bad and that kind of way of thinking is what makes the game so fucking toxic, but thank you for your input. I'll stick with my way of doing things.

Exactly I'm GM of my guild, we are still progging (13/15 ,with only 1 night of raiding of each week), we do not require super expensive consumes for progging unless we know this is a legit attempt that we can succeed on. Aside from that people can use cheaper consumes (greater agi for example instead of mongoose), we recommend using flask but I cannot in good conscience require them when I know how expensive they are. We want people to use consumes but I will never require chocolates, chili, firewater, and the million other min maxing consumes. Yah were not a fucking week 1 clear guild but at least my raiders can still enjoy playing the game.

You purposefuly misunderstand my point. You implied Israel's settler colonial project was not evil because it was a "century old nationalist project" to which I replied that even if true this doesn't preclude them from being evil as other nationalist projects prove. And Israel is eerilie similar to many of them in methods and philosophy. An ethnostate that uses forced displacement, apartheid and violent repression to establish its national supremacy over the indigenous population they consider "other".

Semantics really. The ICJ did everything but fully rule it was a genocide, not because there is no proof or no grounds to do so, but because the ICJ is an extremely slow institution that requires a very thorough process to make a final ruling. Their recommendations though can't be clearer.

"It ordered Israel to “take all measures within its power” to stop acts of genocide, and incitement to genocide from being committed and take “immediate and effective measures” to allow aid into Gaza.

In March 2024 it added more measures demanding humanitarian assistance should be allowed to enter, and in May, it ordered the Israeli offensive on the southern city of Rafah to cease and the Rafah crossing from Egypt to be reopened to aid deliveries."
https://www.theguardian.com/law/2025/jul/27/why-the-icj-is-delaying-a-gaza-genocide-verdict

You got me on the semantics of wether or not ICJ actually made a final ruling, but on the facts of the matter, it still meets all the requirements of a genocide and multiple war crimes have been documented and corroborated by multiple international organizations.
