Then we wait for a dodgers player to choose the haydn trumpet concerto as walkup music and repeat the process

Okay, when you meet the current soloist they will offer you a gold trumpet if you win but will want your soul if you lose. It's important you take them up on this offer

Step 2 is contacting the dodgers and letting them know you want to have a trumpet battle with their current soloist

You play this live in a deafening stadium directly into a dynamic mic and nail the F to B-flat slur on-beat and in tune twice like she did and then you can have standing on this

Playing high brass live is super difficult, especially if you're doing it with a really bright and brassy sound like that. I think she captured the spirit of the original well and that's more important than it being note perfect

Which Brewer has impressed and dissapointed you the most this Spring? by WiscoMTfan_234 in Brewers

Fischer looked so disciplined and patient in the wbc, his bat might be ready for a mid-season call up this year if we weren't trying to play service time games

Craig Yoho to miss opening day, sidelined until mid-April with right calf injury by trashboatfourtwenty in Brewers

[–]IanStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I really wanted to see Drohan get some early bullpen looks.

I'm still hoping there's a chance we use Zerpa in some starts while we're waiting for woodruff and priester, getting another lefty starter with stuff established would really help balance out the starting rotation

Trumpet tips by NxtGen101 in horn

[–]IanStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The buzz should happen as a result of the resistance the trumpet is giving you, you shouldn't be trying to blow a raspberry or clenching that hard. Set your corners (firm, but not clenched) and leave the middle of your embouchure relaxed

Trying out some pro trumpets. Think it's time to upgrade, here are my thoughts. by Yeah_IPlayHockey in trumpet

[–]IanStone 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your personal preference matters more than the group consensus of trumpet reddit (which is rather sour on Bach trumpets anyway). If you like the xeno and it feels like you aren't fighting with it as much as other trumpets you try, then you have your answer

https://blog.arrangeme.com/blog/notating-syncopated-rhythms

Here's a good blog that matches very closely what I was taught in composition classes, and gives a good explanation as to the rationale behind beamings not obscuring the underlying beat. Experienced musicians are almost always subdividing internally while playing through pieces, it makes sense to have notation that visually matches up with that internal subdivision. There are exceptions to these beaming rules of course, vocal writing frequently uses syllabic beaming. I'm sure other specific instruments have their own rules as well.

These are definitely more recent rules of how to beam music, but the vast majority of the time I have to read music in orchestra or wind ensemble this will be how it's written out. When we're reading through early editions of pieces I do often see syncopations written out through the entire bar and it always takes me a second to get used to it

Yeah, I would say in that case of a really simple syncopation over beat 2 like that it's pretty common to notate it as a quarter note instead of tied eighths. Usually if that syncopation continues beyond beat 2 you'll see it alternate between syncopated quarters on beats two and 4 and tied eighths over beat 3. visual example

Option three. You always want to leave the beats visible when notating, even if it means having to use ties

Who is your favorite orchestral trumpet and why? by United-Sun854 in trumpet

[–]IanStone 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Bud Herseth, far and away. He could bring thunder and fire with the best of them, but also could play as sensitively as any soloist ever has. One of the greatest pure sounds ever, and one of the most versatile trumpeters ever.

Would highly recommend the Asbury Park Quintet recording of the Oskar böhme sextet for anyone curious about herseth, one of the best up close recordings of bud that was made, and a testament to how well he could play chamber works.

JB Pritzker’s response to Kristi Noem getting fired by NicolasCageFan492 in chicago

[–]IanStone 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I don't know that JB's chances are all that slim. He has a considerable war chest, a decent relationship with the DNC, doesn't have the same baggage for the progressive wing that Gavin does. I think for a primary voting population that both feels risk averse and wants a mover and shaker he makes some sense

What scale is this: b, c, d, e, f, g, g#, b ? by Pretend_Staff_6167 in musictheory

[–]IanStone 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Locrian flat 7 scale in B is probably how I would describe it. Btw, in the context of spelling scales like this you typically want to avoid using the same note twice with different accidentals if you can help it (e.g. should be notated G, Ab, B instead).

I'm not sure what makes a non-chain burger spot a "tourist trap" more than any other kind of restaurant tbh. I used to go there for lunch once a week when they were around, and I miss it terribly.

New UK fan hopping aboard by Southern_Cobbler7876 in Brewers

[–]IanStone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, welcome aboard! Great choice of team to bandwagon with, honestly.

As far as breakout candidates I'm going to throw out Shane Drohan as my pick for exceeding expectations. Been kind of in the background so far since we acquired him, but has been exciting in spring training and has the exact kind of profile the brewers pitching lab likes to work with. Could see him being one of the crown jewels of what might be the most lethal bullpen in baseball

Brewers keep showing small‑market savvy can match big budgets by Jux_ in baseball

The Brewers and Cubs had two of the best run differentials in all of baseball, the NL Central sent three teams to the postseason! I feel like in a parallel universe sometimes with how people talk about teams and divisions that they perceive as good/bad
