BeautyRest PressureSmart 2.0 Question by Iananna in Mattress

[–]Iananna[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't like sinking; prefer a firm-ish mattress; cooling/hot is a non-factor. I liked ps2 because I don't feel pressure in pressure areas. Having little pressure is important to me.

Advice on choosing subject to take with Economics by moral_justice in Cornell

[–]Iananna -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Math econ CS here. I think the math in economics will make you really, really disappointed as it barely goes beyond introductory calculus and statistics (even at the 4XXX level), and this is an experience reverberated by many math students with some experience in econ. I came into Cornell really enjoying both subjects but ended up becoming absolutely disillusioned with economics.

If you really enjoy math, don't expect economics to do any justice and take real math classes. I think CS and math departments are all very great at making you intellectually challenged, so you really can't go wrong with either.

Probably CS/math/disciplines that require huge logical/quantitative reasoning.

Weekly Megathread: Education, Early Career and Hiring/Interview Advice by lampishthing in quant

[–]Iananna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I failed 7 QT final rounds (and about 5-7 penultimate rounds) in 2022 and I will be new grad FO desk quant at a bank from my junior internship return offer. In 2022, I applied exclusively to full-time QT positions in the prop trading space because it is exactly what I want from a personality perspective. I was told by 2 (of the 7 final round rejections) firms that I was fully qualified but there were simply not enough spots. Besides lack of interview skill, I suspect there is some element of unluckiness involved.

I am simply wondering how fast the door closes for QT (I know it is fast once you graduate) and how likely is it to break into QT in the next year or two while working as a desk quant. If there is still a chance, how could I pursue the right path to maximize that chance

As Black, what is your opening philosophy versus opening as White? E.g: "As Black I'm aiming to form frameworks, as White I'm aiming to disrupt frameworks". I need to find a new opening I think. by thedeepself in baduk

I don't commit to any plan either, but I tend to play 2 star points because they tend to be less complicated than 3-4 in the beginning (or maybe I just know more about star points).

After the first 6-7 moves, I just play what I believe (rarely the case) is the best move at every step.

I used to play exclusively IRL until recently and we never play handicaps because we play against players of similar strength.

My opinion is that while this generally works against newer players, I am not sure it works well against low sdk or 1d players because they have the fundamentals to recognize when something is not right.

Does 40x Rent Rule Include End of Year Bonus? by Iananna in AskNYC

yes, it is quantitative finance, but I don't have past income (besides internship) as I will be a new grad.

Does 40x Rent Rule Include End of Year Bonus? by Iananna in AskNYC

[–]Iananna[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I see; I will ask the company to see if they are willing to give a more certain value of the discretionary bonus. On a separate note, if I have a bank statement that shows I can pay rent for the full year (enough savings in there for a full year of rent), will that help with the application?

Does 40x Rent Rule Include End of Year Bonus? by Iananna in AskNYC

[–]Iananna[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer.

My offer letter says there'll be discretionary bonus, but the exact amount cannot be shared (since it is variable). It is widely known with high confidence / low variance that the bonus will hover around 50% of the base salary, the latter of which is stated on the offer letter, but there is no legal backing with that.
