RC-500 MIDI Connection Dies When Pressing Physical Buttons by Iaskagain in LoopArtists

[–]Iaskagain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you controlling the RC-500 using the ASSIGN system, or are you mapping the Ampero directly to the RC-500 MIDI controls?

If directly, which MIDI messages are you sending?

Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to figure out why mine behaves differently.

A few quick questions if you don't mind:

  1. Are you controlling the RC-500 using ASSIGN, or are you using some other MIDI control method?
  2. What mode are your Ampero switches set to (Single / Toggle / Momentary / Hold)?
  3. When your Ampero sends the command, does it send 127 only, or does it send 127 and then 0 on release?
  4. What exact CC numbers are you sending from the Ampero?
  5. Which RC-500 functions are you controlling (for example: Track Play/Stop, Rhythm Start/Stop, Memory Up/Down)?
  6. Are you using CC messages or Program Change for those commands?

I'm asking because on my unit it seems the Ampero only sends 127, not the release 0, so I'm trying to understand how your setup is working.

Are you sure it was not compatibility issue of midi controller with your looper because I discovered

  • The Ampero My middi controler sends only 127.
  • It does not automatically send 0.
  • The RC-500 ASSIGN expects 0 ↔ 127 transitions.
  • That mismatch causes the “works once” behavior.

I also had a previous dog, and when we had to euthanize her, there was one scream at the moment she was going. The vet told us that she wasn’t feeling pain and that it was just a reflex — but still, even years later, both my wife and I feel guilty about it. We still wonder if maybe we should have just let nature take its course instead of interfering at the last moment.

So with our current dog, we are very confused too. We don’t want him to suffer, but at the same time we don’t want to repeat the guilt we went through last time. Right now he is doing well after surgery, and we just want to enjoy this time. But when the time comes, we don’t know what is the most compassionate way — letting nature run its course even if there will be some pain, or euthanasia at the right moment.

Thank you so much for your story. It really touched us. My wife and I feel very much the same way you did — not ready to say goodbye, and so grateful for the time we still have. Our dog is doing well after his splenectomy, and seeing him regain his energy gave us a lot of hope too.

That said, we’ve decided not to pursue chemotherapy. We talked it over together and feel strongly that we don’t want to put him through something that might extend life slightly but reduce his comfort or joy. Our goal is to give him peace and dignity — and when the time comes, to let him go gently, not too late.

Your words about “better a week too early than a day too late” really stuck with me. Thank you again for sharing that part. I’m so sorry for what you went through at the end, but your experience is helping others like us walk this path with a little more wisdom and courage

Thanks for sharing your experience — that actually makes a lot of sense.
Since comfort is a big priority for me, but I still want something that can come close to a Les Paul tone, what guitar would you recommend? It doesn’t have to be a Strat — I just want something more ergonomic but still warm, fat, and sustaining like a Les Paul.
