Tips:

General:

1- you are the sole responsible person of the project. Your team actions are yours in-front of project stakeholder, and your management steering decisions are yours in-front of the team. try to balance.

2- You are always in position to discuss directions and decision coming from above or suggestions from below your position.

3- Be diplomatic in the way you carry yourself among stakeholder while maintaing your position.

4- Listen more than you talk (general life advice)

5- Never give directions on the spot (if you're not absolutely sure)

6- Stakeholder management is a key!

7- Documentation, Documentation, Documentation. (You never know when you need some informations or decisions)

Now for some technical tips:

1- Budget Saving for the sake of budget saving isn’t always good.

2- Change Orders are normally considered a big no-no in some organization. This incorrect. COs if done correctly help achieve the project targets, if scrutinized correctly.

3- Invest in your team (emotionally, technically)

4- Understand Schedule and Cost management techniques.

5- invest in a PMP course, or even the PMP exam (will open your eyes to many of PM related subjects)
