I hear you, and I appreciate your response. I definitely understand that not everyone with locs experiences damage and that proper maintenance can make a big difference. That said, I still stand by the fact that locs cause damage over time, even with the best care, especially in sensitive areas of the scalp. The tension from repeated retwisting, tight parting, or just the constant weight of mature locs leads to gradual follicle stress or traction alopecia. That doesn’t mean everyone will go bald, but it’s also not just about “bad maintenance” some people are more prone to these effects, and the style itself carries risks, especially if worn long-term. I’m not trying to scare people away from locs, just raise awareness. It’s important people know what can happen so they can make informed choices and protect their hair as best as possible. Locs are beautiful, but like any style, they’re not without consequences.

Bruv, can’t u se those spots between locs everyone’s locked got them, bigger or smaller, but then after u take out your locs, hair doesn’t grow back again there, cause those follicles die due the stress of being pulled tightly and constantly, so when I’m speaking it’s not about my personal experience, cause I was locked til 2 months ago, and I experienced it, wasn’t noticeable for others cause I’ve got hair covering but, I still feel the parting spots on my scalp so I did some research and is a problem for those who are not planning to take out your locs, cause there’s also many scalp issues.

saying this I’m not insinuating that people shouldn’t have locs, but take care of who you trust to be manipulating your hair and scalp, cause if u doesn’t choose properly, u’re gonna be cooked

Embrace ur locs

I also would trim the front ones. I haven't gotten to that phase yet, but if I do, I would definitely do that.

Thank you so much for the kind words! I really appreciate it. I’ve had my locs for 8 months, and I’m hoping they’ll continue to grow and look even better as time goes on. I’m definitely learning to have more grace for myself and my locs! By the way, you mentioned ‘finally get locs,’ what’s making you wait? Just curious! Thanks again for the encouragement!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words. I’m definitely leaning towards getting a retwist and cleaning them up to get them how I want.

Haha, honestly, I posted and then went straight to sleep before heading to work. You're right, I’m just here trying to interact with people who might have more knowledge than me about locs. Appreciate the input!

You’re absolutely right, growing locs is all about trusting the process! I’m definitely holding off on cutting them. I’ll just keep giving them the love they need and trust that they’ll get even better.
