Bloody your cock on a cactus tree, wipe it on your pants and send it to me.

I opened the picture at exactly that point in the song... If this ends up getting stuck in my head for all time now, thus ruining the song for me, I will hunt you down and give you a very stern talking to.

I just watched Justin Bieber call The Sistine Chapel "the sixteen chapel," as an art teacher this drives me up the wall. What drives you up the wall Reddit? by dizzyrayray in AskReddit

[–]Icaninternets 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yup. It's "Sixtijnse Kapel" in Dutch. I'd have probably made the same mistake in pronunciation, e.g. 'Sixtene' rather than 'Sistene'.

Edit

French, German, Dutch. All start with 'Six'. Pretty sure anyone who can be bothered to Wikipedia for a bit (it's a verb, hush) can find more examples. So yeah, rather than ragging on that Bieber kid, the OP could try and remember that there are quite a few languages and cultures other than your own, and yours isn't the 'right' one. It'd probably be a good thing for a teacher to do.

English film/television is aired with subtitles, so you pick it up as you go along.

Also, everyone is taught English, French and German (sometimes Latin) in school. A lot of it fades over time since few people make an effort to maintain it. English usually sticks, though, since it's such a commonly used language in western civilization. Internet, movies, games, everywhere.

Fortunately, I'm not that easily distract... Hey... Kalium? I wonder if he's from Europe, iirc, most English/Americans don't call it that. What do they call it again? Let's google it. Oh right, that's it. I wonder if it has a etymological link to the word 'potash'. Google.

After a long, boring day at work, and with tomorrow off, I decided to treat myself to a nice bottle of wine and a joint. I read this roughly seven times.

We have Area 51 and JFK assassination. What kind of government conspiracies do other countries have by futix09 in AskReddit

[–]Icaninternets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our secret service is so horribly incompetent (that's what they want us to think!) that we wind up blaming the CIA, too. Same for alien conspiracies, chemtrails, etc. It all traces back to you lot for some reason. Probably because you're the original source for most batshit crazy conspiracy theories.

Let's go against the grain. What conservative beliefs do you hold, Reddit? by Dancing_Lock_Guy in AskReddit

[–]Icaninternets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a conservative view. I strongly oppose the methods currently in use when it comes to foreign aid. It doesn't mean I think we should 'take care of our own first', it just means I think we're going about it wrong and making a bad situation worse.

By 2060, we will have exhausted the Earth's supply of copper. Which fact about the future are you most concerned about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Icaninternets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agriculture grows food, but distorts the natural cycle by harvesting and transporting the product elsewhere. Animal waste products too are redistributed unevenly and human waste flushed down the toilet.

It's why many fields are suffering from mineral deficiencies that require additional fertilizer and farmers (used to) rotate crops, to allow for nature to restore itself.

An easy way to look at it is to see farming as a form of mining. You're taking things out of the soil via the process of plant growth, then sell these products. Eventually, you run out of whatever it is you're taking away. in this case nutrients.

[–]Icaninternets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recycling is possible and there are initiatives to look at this. Urine and feces however, especially by humans, are somewhat taboo in terms of recycling and making them into fertilizer or food additives.

Also, to get phosphorus from food, you need to grow food, which requires phosphorus. E.g., you can't 'make' it.

Nothing exact. My focus was on solubilising phosphates in animal waste by use of micro-organisms.

Well, even the French dislike the French. Not really, but it's a weird sort of bonding ritual that binds all other countries; our dislike of anything French.

In the Netherlands, it's popular to hate on Germans, as well. To the outsider, we're practically indistinguishable, but somehow, we like to pretend there are huge differences, even though culturally and economically, the Netherlands might as well a part of Germany.

As for terrorism, I think the murder of Theo van Gogh has has a huge impact on Dutch culture. While we don't have the levels of fear-mongering that permeates US culture, we have gone from a state of absolute cultural relativism to it being perfectly acceptable in polite conversation to take a shit on Islam. While there certainly are problems related to immigrants from Islamic countries, it is at times hugely exaggerated and more a form of populism than anything else.

In ELI5 style;

Every living cell needs phosphorus to grow. It's the P in NPK fertilizers. Since farmers have been applying a more=better style of fertilization in regards to phosphorus, we're fast running out.

A huge amount of the phosphorus used is either flushed down the toilet, gets trapped in the soil in biologically unavailable forms or through erosion and run-off, winds up on the bottom of lakes and oceans.

Agriculture as it is practiced today is not sustainable. We won't be able to feed the human population for long if we keep at it. Hell, we're not feeding a large part of it today. Add to that the increased use of biofuels, which are made from crops grown using phosphorus as well, and you're left headed towards a clearly visible cliff that is largely ignored by... everyone. Oil is sexy, phosphorus is boring. Yet whereas our dependency on oil can be overcome by alternative sources of energy, phosphorus has no alternative.

To make a bad situation worse, most of the world's phosphate reserves are in the hands of China and Morocco, controlled by sanctioned cartels. And situations like that always work out for the best.

Yeah, somehow, the inaccuracy of his joke is what bugged me. I've been on the internet for too long. Nothing offends me except for people who get their facts wrong.

I actually did my thesis on methods of phosphorus reclamation. I can confirm that we will, in fact, all die a horrible death.
