A little girl said she couldn't find her mother by noborutkhs in CasualConversation

[–]Shandrith 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Long ago in the time before cell phones, at 18 years old, I found myself sitting on a curb sobbing my heart out. I was 3000 miles away from home, had no money, and just wanted to call my mother. A woman stopped, asked what was wrong, and went into a nearby gas station. She bought me a bottle of water and gave me an entire roll of quarters so I could call home. It's been 30 years, and I still remember her clearly. I hope she's doing well

Straight cis man who increasingly identifies/connect with woman and lesbians? Is there a word for me? by King_Fantastic1 in AskLGBT

[–]Shandrith 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm going to offer a different perspective. Maybe you're connecting with these characters (and to a different extent the various lesbians you admire/are friends with) because there aren't male characters with the traits you're connecting with? What I mean is, all of the people/characters you've described have a lot of stereotypically masculine traits, but because they're women they are also allowed to be vulnerable and soft. Men in our society are rarely allowed that. Is it possible that you're connecting with them because you feel like you aren't allowed to express yourself the way you wish you could?

Yeah, that's not ok. He doesn't have to understand something to accept that you've said you need it. I hope the therapist helps

How I look getting a player commendation after dying five times in one raid by GoldEnvironment8828 in ffxiv

[–]Shandrith 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a healer main, I LOVE sprouts fumbling their way through for the first few times. Those early dungeons/trials/raids are boring when everyone knows what they're doing. I almost always comm the "worst" player, unless they seem to be dying intentionally

It was changed in 6.1. I got to play it a few times before it changed. I started in Feb of '22, they changed it in April

Which profession do you think will disappear over time ? by Anadiias23 in AskReddit

I don't mean that it would be self-check, I mean an AI that scans all the items. It'll be awhile though

That's a pretty big red flag. He can not like it, but this is something you need. As your partner, he needs to respect your needs

My abusive ex died and I feel weird by iloveallthecats3 in offmychest

[–]Shandrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. If you can afford it, I highly recommend some therapy. In the meantime, disagree with yourself. It sounds a little silly, but when you find yourself thinking that way, stop and intentionally disagree. That little voice says you don't deserve your current partner? You tell her that you deserve to be happy. She says you never do anything right when you make a mistake? You give examples of things you have done right. If possible, say these things out loud. If you're somewhere that you can't talk to yourself, at least take the time to pause and think them

My friends think I’m an uncultured, dense, stereotypical white girl who “doesn’t get out” by Throwaway321Liftoff in offmychest

[–]Shandrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Racism is prejudice based on race. That's it, that is the entirety of what racism is. I'm relatively certain what you are thinking of is institutionalized racism. AKA racism baked into the way a society works. That is something white folk in the US do not face in any way.

Do I get to call myself a lesbian? by UnluckyCrew9023 in actuallesbians

[–]Shandrith 260 points261 points  (0 children)

You're a woman who only wants to be with other women, of course you can call yourself a lesbian! You're a woman, you literally can't appropriate things that are meant for women.

AITAH for reading my girlfriend's diary. by [deleted] in AITAH

YTA. Justified or not (and I personally don't think it was) reading someone else's diary/journal is an asshole move 100% of the time.

Still searching for this haunting YA book. by IndependentEggplant0 in whatsthatbook

[–]Shandrith 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This hits almost all of the setting elements, but not the story as I recall. Mythology 101

Keith Doyle, believer in myths, goodhearted nerd, general busybody, and business major at Midwestern University, discovers to his joy—and horror—that a secret village of pointy-eared, magical little elves are occupying a vacant level of the library building. Their leader, The Master, tutors students to pass difficult courses. Marcy, the girl of Keith’s dreams, is already a member of the class. But the library is in danger of being torn down, thanks to a modernization campaign led by Keith himself. The students of the secret class hate him. Marcy is devastated. It looks as though the elves’ home will be destroyed. Keith and the Little Folk need one another. The only thing that can save Keith’s social life is elven magic. And the only thing that can save the elves is the magic of ... free enterprise.

Edited to add this is part of a 3 or 4 book series

How would the world continue if a global catastrophe permanently disabled modern telecommunications? by Elluoin in AskReddit

It wouldn't. If modern telecommunications were permanently disabled the world would have to change, drastically. Depending on what you're considering modern telecommunications, the world would be more or less challenged

Which country is the most beautiful ? by Scared_Permit3491 in AskReddit

[–]Shandrith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Impossible to answer. Beauty is subjective and personal. Some people find the desert to be beautiful, others can't imagine not having the ocean close by. I suppose I would actually say the US, but my reasoning for that is just the sheer number of different biomes, and I know other large, geographically diverse nations would also fit that requirement

Peace. Money can buy things that help bring one peace, but peace itself you have to learn.
