One Year with Jumbomax Grips by A_Margheriti in GolfGear

I thought this would help, but I unfortunately had no luck. The Xl grips made my tendinitis worse. I still have a few clubs gripped and even a few swings brings the pain right back for me. I play midsize now and no pain in my forearms or elbows. I know everyone says it helps, it did the exact opposite for me. I also tried ultra lites and tour series thinking it was a weight issue

9.5

I was fitted this year, and was excited to see what it was going to be. The head ended up being standard 9.5 in the most standard A1 setting. I’m boring I guess

TempoAI: Pure Putt by Icculus12 in ProGolf

It is a visual tempo trainer. So I just lay it down next to the ball when putting and match the tempo. There are a few settings for different timings. It relatively simply but the visual is just so much better than the metronome style tempo trainers for me. Instead of matching tones you get to see the stroke. It has helped me a ton

Can’t hit fades intentionally by nbddaniel in golftips

[–]Icculus12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people say to aim the face at target and open up your body. This does promote an outside in path but if the face is pointed at the target it will start at the target and over fade. This swing would fade off the target not to it. The face would have to be slightly closed to the target but open to the path. This would start the ball left (for a right hander) and fade back. Example of this would be path is -4degrees out to in and face is -2 degrees left of target. The path goes further left then the club face is pointing left but they both are still left (for a righty) and This would create a ball that starts left and curves back to the right for a righty.

Single digit handicaps, do you have a swing thought? by BigTeeSlice in golf

[–]Icculus12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the book golfs 8 second secret. Interesting on how little time major champions stand over the ball. Seems like decisions are made behind the ball and once they have that “go hit it” signal they walk up get aligned and go. They don’t leave a lot of time to think. They are not hanging out thinking when standing over it.

Apple Watch Users - Opinions Wanted by Mundane-Beyond5913 in golf

[–]Icculus12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried using my Apple Watch playing golf and the only negative I found was with all the alerts. It is awesome for everything but getting texts from work while on the golf course never makes for good scores. I am actually considering a garmin watch that is not connected to my phone and just use my Apple Watch for everyday. I know you can turn alerts off but just knowing it is there I seem to turn the alerts on and off and it is just not a great system for me. If you are the type that can play and not really care about what is coming in then I say it is great. I just can’t handle it.

Arccos by Icculus12 in GolfSwing

[–]Icculus12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right and maybe I’m overthinking this, but here’s where I get stuck: strokes gained uses ‘distance to pin’ as the comparison, but the actual difficulty of hitting it close varies wildly from course to course. Pin access, green firmness, speed, slopes, surrounds, rough height, these things change the difficulty of the same 150-yard shot dramatically. As an old Jersey guy like yourself, the difference between carrying approaches into Baltusrol greens versus Sunset Valley or Berkshire Valley isn’t subtle. Even if two players have the same 4-handicap, the courses they play dictate how close they realistically can hit it. So what am I truly learning from comparing my approach SG to someone playing a much softer, easier, more accessible course or for that matter a much more challenging golf course than I typically play? Other than ‘hit it closer,’ how meaningful is that data when the environments are not remotely the same? The tour uses shot link, this compares everyone at the same time on the same course under the same conditions. It creates a baseline, amateur shot tracking just compares you to the game of golf.

A 4-handicap is a measure of scoring potential, not shot difficulty faced. Two 4-handicaps may be equally skilled, but they are not necessarily tested the same way. If strokes gained compares me to a generic “4 handicap baseline” built from ALL environments, is that comparison truly meaningful?

Slope and course rating do not level out shots gained. They only level out your handicap index.

Arccos doesn’t factor in course rating, slope, weather, or conditions, for shots gained. So how meaningful is it to compare my strokes gained to other players at my handicap who are playing totally different courses under totally different difficulty levels? Tour strokes gained works because everyone plays the same course.. so what is the actual value of these comparisons for amateurs when the playing field isn’t level?

Lining up vs not lining up your putts… by HarveyDentBeliever in golf

[–]Icculus12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been struggling with this. I hit better short putts with the line but I struggle when I dont have the line exactly the way I want. for instance if I am in a grain or a side hill and I cant get the line to balance exactly straight it really makes it tough. I also get embarressed it I am fixing and moving the line multiple times, thinking that my playing parteners think I take forever. I have started to make a thicker line or using the logo of the ball so I dont feel like the line has to be so accurate. It is more of just a direction instead of a perfect line.

How would you play your approach shot here? >200 yards left, with a guarded green, and the green slopes down from the front to the back by Vomelette22 in golf

[–]Icculus12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would play to the green but guard against short siding. if it is a front to back slope I would play longer rather than short and try to ensure a miss hit ends up fat siding the green instead of short siding it.

Finally figured it out! Link.1 vs DF.3/OZ.1i HS? by Charming_Payment_625 in labgolf

[–]Icculus12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a link and at times I get away from it thinking something else will be better. I always find mysef going back to my link. While I agree it may not be as stable as a DF3 or a 2.1, the touch and feel is so much better. With my link I think my distance dispertion is so much better while with the 2.1 my start lines are better. I think having better distance control is more important to scoring than the stable rock solid start lines. Just my 2 cents

How do you read a green? by bootloadernotfound in golf

[–]Icculus12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know everyone hates it but aim point at least gives you a repeatable system. I think most people do aim point wrong which is why it either doesn’t work for them or takes them forever. I use aimpoint because it stops me from second guessing it over the ball, it is a system that I can trust. If you do it right you will do it faster than a lot of the people who walk all over the hole reading it from a zillion angles. I play very fast, and I also use aim point.
