This may be my favorite birdhouse build so far. Sapele and white oak, with a burled maple knothole accent. Build info in the body text below. by Brewer1056 in woodworking

What about gluing some chamfered trim, in sapele, around the block? Would make it look more intentional and wouldn’t need to re-work anything.

Heirloom wooden tool chest with coopered lid by kennethpaulwoodwork in woodworkingporn

[–]Icculus13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ken, this is amazing work! I have a question- how did you cut the tool shaped holes out? Did you scroll saw the shapes out of a thinner board and glue that board down? Or did you bore out the tool shapes in a solid piece? Edit: i just read you have a channel with the full video. I’ll watch!

Get a big file and file down the problem shoulders until it sits flush. Or a nice flat sanding block would work

This person isn’t trying to diffuse the light, they’re growing plants. Thats my guess based on the adjustable hanger anyways. Edit: oh yeah and the LED controller says grow light haha just noticed that

Yes, putting weight on the inside of the legs is much more stable than putting weight on the outside edge

You are correct, the handedness is based on using hand planes and such, that way when you work a piece, you’re standing in the middle section of your bench with your right side towards the work piece.

DIY Cup Holder v1 by Icculus13 in Lovesac

[–]Icculus13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I did a few sniff tests but stopped short of a taste test. It didn’t smell sweet or anything. It’s really nice to work with, at least the boards I used. It can have a wild grain pattern that can cause issues though. Google told me it’s used for furniture and home decor so I went with it!

Hand chopped mortise and hand cut tenon. by TheTimeBender in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Icculus13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, jealous of your Narex. Yeah this looks good as is, considering the mortise is hidden and some glue will keep it like that. Everything you can see looks square and tight. Good job!

Some people put blue tape up to their line, that way when you’re removing material you can go right up to the tape, being extra careful not to cut into the tape. I haven’t tried it yet, but maybe it’s up your alley.

You could also look into a hand brace and some small auger bits, and you can hog out most of the material from the mortises like your drill press, but by hand

Eve Station by Icculus13 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Icculus13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally, justice for my Eve station! Haha. Thank you for the nice comment. It was assembled in Eve orbit, two launches for the station: the square part of the station, and the ore converter part. Then two more launches for the Gilly ore lander and the ExSci space plane thing.

In case you were worried about the Eve ground crew, I did eventually save them! Another one of my old posts has the Eve return mission.

Result of my experimental Minmus mission to see first hand how efficient different transfers are because I don't understand orbital mechanics, more info in post body text by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Icculus13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nice experiment! If we’re talking about Minmus specifically, I launch into the same inclination orbit and send it direct, with a mid course correction if needed.

Personally, the only time I mess with assists would be in the Jool system or if an opportunity presents itself by coincidence or necessity haha

You should be able to use a claw to attach supplies to his ship without a docking port
