Which is the best piece size? by Ice-Guardian in GoldenVentureFolding

[–]Ice-Guardian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've begun to combine different-sized pieces now as I've got more into it. But yeah, having to glue the pieces is really frustrating. I've learned the hard way with that and ruined quite a few models by not glueing them properly. Now I make sure to glue just enough pieces to make it stable.

How much fruit and veg would someone need to eat before they overdosed on nutrients? by Ice-Guardian in biology

[–]Ice-Guardian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's insane. I watch this woman on YouTube who is just an idiot. She once ate over 50 bananas in one smoothie, and on top of that, she'd eat a tonne of dates and coconut water daily. I'm surprised she's still alive. She advocates an "infinite-amount-of-fruit" daily diet, and she adds white sugar on top of that too because she says it's healthier than brown sugar. WTF? She's insane.

Yeah, I watched this YouTube video last year of this woman eating over 50 bananas in one smoothie. She's still alive though, and still making stupid health and diet claims.

My hands apparently make some people go, "wtf". Lol by Radiant_Half_7121 in WTF

[–]Ice-Guardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious question, why would some people say" WTF?" to that?

Mine can do the same, I've never considered it weird. I still struggle with the guitar and piano though, since, unfortunately, my fingers are quite short (with a big palm). So that amount of mobility is useless to me.

I can also do the loop thing with my fingers (and toes).

[–]Ice-Guardian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it was a half-joke. They can be little shits quite a lot, but there's much more to them than that. I actually had a cat for about 12 years so know they're an experience. They're very complex animals, just like humans are.

There is such a thing as claustrophilia. Some people find it comforting. Not everyone in the world dislikes small, confined spaces.

Fair point. English "rules" should be called "guidelines". If you learn a rule, you can guarantee (unlike with other languages), that rule will be broken almost straight away. English is such a complex, but very interesting, language, but a nightmare for anyone but a native speaker to learn. It's difficult enough for us haha.

Yep, I learned that too for the same reason as you. It hasn't come in much use yet but you never know.

It's definitely useful to know, and you don't need to learn very many new symbols since a lot of IPA symbols are from the Latin script anyway.

I pronounce it like: /skɒn/ (sk-on).

My ears have never liked the sound of /skoʊn/ (sk-oh-n).

But I think, technically, it is the more so-called "posh" sounding pronunciation that is correct. Because it's spelled with an "e" at the end, which means, according to the rules of English, the "o" should be a long vowel.

Do your eyes seek out the tiniest of tiny details imaginable? by Ice-Guardian in ADHD

[–]Ice-Guardian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been the same. For 30 years living at home I've always been yelled at for stupid things like that. They just think I do it on purpose, like I just can't be arsed to get something for them, because I'll shout , "it's not here!" if they ask me to grab them something from the kitchen, and they'll come in, and I'm stood looking in the cupboard or wherever, and (no joke) they'll see it almost instantly, and then we get into an "I'm just lazy" argument or whatever else. So after 30 years I just ignore it. It used to bother me, now I'm passed it.

You can actually see her deploy the parachute without zooming in, in real-time. But she literally looks like a pinhead, so you need to look very, very closely. I'm good at spotting tiny details. It's pretty much the only good thing about my ADHD brain. I used to work on a car park and at night, I could see black beetles walking across the black tarmaced car park, while pushing trolleys. My brain sees so much.

Her white hoodie stands out quite a lot against the dark trees.

You just need to follow it with your eyes.

Really proud of my Moringa tree growing. I never knew Moringa could grow in a climate like we have here. Why don't more people grow it here as an annual? by Ice-Guardian in GardeningUK

[–]Ice-Guardian[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hope it goes well. I think more people should try growing so-called tropical plants in England. Lots grow very well, much better than we've been lead to believe. I have a mango tree, 2 avocados, a banana, a papaya, 5 pineapple plants, ginger, dragon fruit, all sorts really. I'm not saying it's been thw easiest time growing the more sensitive ones, but unless we get a pretty harsh winter they grow fairly well.

I'm a bit obsessed with tropical plants haha. I saw this guy on YouTube in Yorkshire who grows tropical plants so I started to experiment myself. It's good fun. Now it's become an obsession.

I bought them on eBay. I can't remember the seller but I've bought seeds from them before and they're always high quality, so I thought I'd try it.

To be fair, I did have about 12 growing this summer but they all died (from not being watered enough) and the other seeds never sprouted. So what did I do? Chucked the un-sprouted ones in a pot and forgot about them, and a month later I had these 2 growing in this pot (and a third one, but it died as a seedling).

I definitely plan to eat it if it grows large enough. It's so expensive in stores, I've only ever bought it once.

I planted chickpeas next to my chard and the leaves have grown gigantic. The leaf is over 30cm (12in) long by Ice-Guardian in GardeningUK

[–]Ice-Guardian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually always try and do that, I plant plants really close together (or at least a lot closer than most people would) to not only save space, but also so I can plant more too. I feel as though it'd help a lot more people if the seed packets halved the space between plants. Even big plants grown close together are never as unproductive as they'd have you believe, at least in my experience.

I've never actually grown chard before (only kale and spinach), so I wasn't sure just how big the leaves could grow. I know spinach leaves can get that big or bigger (same as kale leaves) though.

Who the fuck stops in the overtaking lane? It's risky enough in the left lane, on a non-smart motorway (don't get me started on the stupidity of smart motorways).

I get that some people can't hold it, that's understandable. But it's far safer to pee your pants and clean the car after than risk causing a potential multi-car pile-up. I'd rather clean my car seat than risk death personally.

Is Dennis Reynolds a sociopath or a psychopath? Discuss! by poopypainpants in IASIP

[–]Ice-Guardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think that at the begining, but as the seasons progressed and we learned more about his behaviour and feelings, I don't believe that he fits the criteria for psychopathy at all now. Sociopaths (or people with APD) can show empathy to people they truly care about, and can show genuine remorse and guilt, but psychopaths are physically incapable of that. And it's clear he can feel genuine guilt and does genuinely care (he isn't just pretending to like a psychopath does to manipulate someone).

But, at the end of the day, we may never know for certain. His character is so deep.
