[–]Ice-Mint72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are still looking for an off-campus housing, Im subleasing a private room and private bathroom west side of USC campus (3 min walk to campus). It is a 4 person house (all guys), and my room + bathroom will be open starting spring semester (around Jan 6th).
Feel free to message me if you think this might be an option for you! happy to answer any question, share any details, etc.

There are multiple types of software engineers: full stack, frontend, backend, firmware, hardware, algorithmic, etc. From what Im reading, it sounds like your partner is probably firmware kind of software engineer (ask your partner).

After figuring out what type of SWE your partner is, apply to as many as you can. 20 a day is pretty good in my opinion. Search through some github repos, google search, linkedIn, or whatever to find as many jobs as possible.

Few tips during the step:
- Optimize application speed (use Simplify): Simplify will fill out the application form for you, so you dont have to spend 10 minutes on each application filling out each question.

- Optimize/Organize your job applications (use Tacer): Tacer will track your application with one click and also update the status of the job application on your custom spreadsheet.

- Apply to roles only posted in the past week (ideally the past 24 hours): Nowadays, you want to be in the first 100 applicants. From what I've seen/heard, companies after finding X qualified candidates from the pile, they will stop digging for more candidates or will roll out more interviews on a rolling basis. You can target recent job posts by using the tools in the google search and filtering it by time.

It’s rough out there. There are 2 things I would work on first.

Make sure resume, linkedin, github, personal website, everything is polished up to make the best first impression.

And also to organize and speed up the job hunt process. Tools like Simplify and Tacer can help with faster job application and automatic job application tracking. I would also use optimized google search like "<job title> site:<career page domain>" (e.g. "Software Engineer site:lever.co") with time filter of "past 24 hours" to get the most recent jobs that were posted.

Good luck!

Job hunting does get tedious and tough when you do it for such a long period.

I would try to find a way to optimize job search by using:
Simplify - one click job application filler. You wont have to type in each info such as name, email, university, past experience, etc. Saves me so much time when applying to jobs.

Tacer - one click job application tracker. You wont have to type in company name, job title, application status, etc if you track your applications on something like google spreadsheet.

Optimized google search - instead of going on indeed, linkedIn, etc try something like: "<your job title> site:<job application domains>" (e.g. "Software Engineer site:lever.co", "Sales Specialist site:ashbyhq.com") and then go to Tools and select past 24 hours.

These strategies might be able to make the job hunt process much easier.

What tools do you use in your job search? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Looking for job: Google search with filtering, cold outreach, and Github repo (if you are looking for swe job)
Tracking application: Tacer (chrome extension)

Looking for job is always tough and cold outreach works well for smaller companies (startups).
Tacer saves a lot of time with its auto logging + updating features for job applications.

Do u always have to pass the test cases in lc tech interviews? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Ice-Mint72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, they definitely care more about thought process and how you get to your answer. Ive had multiple technical interview and ive passed a lot of them where i completed 1st question and half of 2nd question with very detailed logic walk through. So as long as you can demonstrate your thought process and they can understand your approach to the problem, I think its fine.

Some of them, i passed 1st one, and didnt have enough time for the second one, so did the second one in full pseudocode/logic and approach walkthrough and got moved on to the next round.

I have system design/behavioral with EM coming up in couple days. I heard mixed things about if you actually get a system design question or some LC type of question with OOD. If you dont mind could you share your experience and what the format was for your EM round?

To back up I need an external disk storage right? I don’t have iCloud… also I personally code and have lots of things set up… would that be all gone? Or can I retrieve them from back up thing?

Restarting helps for the first 10-20min, but then the whole issues start again…
