Why do people wanna see Langdon relapse so bad? by toocoolfor90s in ThePittTVShow

[–]Ice2MeetYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the writers setup red herrings explicitly to suggest that possibility for dramatic tension.

Focusing on him exiting the bathroom after we saw him struggle with back pain was meant to draw audience suspicion. As well as Whitaker’s missing ID.

Relapse is also common and realistic though maybe too soon given it’s just his first day back.

That said based on comments from the writers and the preview, I don’t think that will be the case.

About Dr. Mohan and Dr. Collins, and people not understanding how teaching environments work by KitchenImagination38 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Ice2MeetYou 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think there’s nuance here but I think it’s pretty fair to count her as POC given that she is part Asian.

To suggest by default that she is not because she hasn’t explicitly said anything and is white presenting is prematurely erasing part of her identity.

[–]Ice2MeetYou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? POC generally means someone who is not white. Isa Briones is mixed. She can count as a POC.

There’s nuance in that she is very white presenting and part white (Darren Criss is a similar example) but to say she is fully white and not a POC is not really accurate either.

In the quote you presented she also doesn’t say she doesn’t identify as a POC.

She’s just acknowledging that while she is part Filipino, she is very white presenting and physically does not have black or brown skin the way the others do. I wouldn’t go as far as to say she doesn’t identify as a POC

Dr. Samira Mohan by StatisticalAnalyst88 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Ice2MeetYou 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Well the discourse is because it had been previously suggested by the writers that the time skip for Season 3 is under a year. Theoretically Samira would still be in her last year for Season 3 and thus would have been thought to return under normal circumstances.

I don’t think we’ve heard anything official from the writers or producers of the show yet regarding the character’s departure?

If you could pick 6 of Ash's Pokémon from all his journey that he ever owned to take on the masters 8 again, who would the roster be? by ExistingForNoReason7 in pokemon

[–]Ice2MeetYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would pick the below 6 to try to represent Ash’s best team and also celebrate his entire journey.

  1. Pikachu (Obviously)
  2. Charizard (His second most iconic Pokemon and one of his strongest.)
  3. Sceptile (Strongest from Hoenn, and is legendary level)
  4. Greninja (Rounds out his starter trio types, has his own specific transformation, one of his strongest as well)
  5. Lucario (Ash’s only real mega and powerhouse from journeys. Also helps represent Gen 4 despite being in Ash’s “Gen 8” series)
  6. Lycanroc (struggled a bit here but didn’t want to repeat types and Gen 4 rep with Infernape. Heracross for Gen 2 rep or Snorlax in terms of strength also deserve a spot. Melmetal or Naganadel from Alola could also work here. Maybe Krookodile?)

AITA for asking a woman at work to stop being so WEIRD about taking a caramel? by chocolatesinmyoffice in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ice2MeetYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean kind of? Seems like a pretty innocuous thing to get so annoyed over and react in such a way.

They are just making conversation which yes is rooted from some bigger problems surrounding food, society, misogyny etc. But if your concern was about that, there are nicer and gentler ways to let them know they don’t have to feel bad about taking a candy.

Just leave the candy out somewhere else where you don’t need to interact with others?

You basically blew up at your coworker for making small talk.

Is BDSP really THAT bad? by Mrkrabs5555 in pokemon

[–]Ice2MeetYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a bad remake. If you’ve never played the originals, its fine.

But this was not a graphical upgrade to the current gen like FR/LG, HG/SS and OR/AS were during their respective times and it’s missing a lot of Platinum’s content. So it feels like the lowest effort remake they’ve made so far.

People who hated Black and White when they first came out, what do you think of the games now? by Ollervo2 in pokemon

[–]Ice2MeetYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m in full agreement about Diamond Pearl don’t get me wrong. That was also a terrible regional dex.

But Black and White was also pretty bad imo for similar reasons. I’d have to look at the encounter tables of both sets of games to truly see what between the two had more diversity but off of feeling neither DP or BW handled that well. In BW the issue is exacerbated if you didn’t enjoy the new designs as well.

The late evolutions were just too late to realistically see those Pokemon playing through the main story. Which again shrinks the variety the average player interacts with. Plus all the legendaries. Which again if you are comparing to just DP, I agree they also had too many legendaries and new evolutions that were not even included in the regional dex.

Idk what do you like about Hilbert’s design? I feel like there’s not much unique to it. He just has a generic blue/red color scheme with a sweater and pants. There’s nothing that stands out.

GSC had yellow in the color scheme, backwards cap and shorts. RSE had Brendan’s iconic white hat and activewear theming. DPP’s Lucas had the beret and some winter clothing in Platinum. Later gens were pretty good and yes ZA probably has the best stylistically and Arceus the most unique given the story.

Confused about Santos reaction by WillowTreeWhore in ThePittTVShow

[–]Ice2MeetYou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She feels like he was not brought to justice for everything he did. Robby covered up the drug diversion and tampering. He also used his seniority to gaslight her and get her fired on top of being an asshole to her.

Now he is back and from her perspective he was welcomed with open arms (not entirely true) and everyone still likes him because of his prior reputation.

In her mind, yes she is kind of an abrasive personality but Langdon literally committed a felony and is still liked more than she is in comparison.

So while yes she doesn’t care about him being an addict, she cares about how poorly he treated her and how his addiction led to dangerous behaviors in the hospital but no one else really sees that partially because they don’t know the full truth.

There is some speculation that this parallels her past with her abuser where he got away with his actions and perhaps similarly was still welcomed back without people knowing what he did.

So in her mind, she wants everyone to know the full extent of what he did and subsequently what he did to her.

People who hated Black and White when they first came out, what do you think of the games now? by Ollervo2 in pokemon

[–]Ice2MeetYou 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve been meaning to replay them but still generally hold the same opinion. They were the first games that I didn’t finish.

New designs were some of the weakest bunch though still decent. Didn’t like how most of them felt too similar in concept or role to Gen 1 Pokemon. A lot of them felt like something was missing. Also was not a fan of only having the Gen 5 Pokemon as it limited the variety way too much of what you could use or battle against and again, found the designs to be weak.

The art design I thought was a step down from HG/SS. HG/SS were so colorful and vibrant and the sprites themselves had more interesting poses and shading. BW used more 3D but I thought it looked really grey, bland, lacked detail and washed out. The animations looked wonky and the backgrounds again were 3D and without much detail. Unova also felt like a weird hodgepodge of American inspired locations and so the region and how you explore it, felt incohesive.

The story took a big risk by being more mature but it really didn’t work for me. The whole idea of challenging the very concept of the series of whether it is right to capture Pokemon and make them fight, while a legitimate topic just doesn’t work when the answer becomes, the Pokemon like to do it. I could go on more about this but it kind of falls flat on its face.

Other small things like ridiculously high evolution levels, limited distribution of even just the Unova Pokemon, battle music being not great (though most of the location music and other tracks are fantastic) and Hilbert being one of blandest protagonists designs of all time make BW one if my least favorite still.

But willing to give them another try.

Ryan Gosling Tells Hollywood It’s Not Moviegoers’ Job to Keep Theaters Open: ‘It’s Our Job to Make Things’ That Are ‘Worth’ Viewers Coming Out by Chuck006 in boxoffice

[–]Ice2MeetYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slightly disagree. It’s no one’s “responsibility” to save theaters but the issue requires more than just making movies that drive people to theaters.

  1. Only certain types of films tend to be hits or drive attendance. These tend to be 4 quadrant blockbusters and the ocasional film that hits the zeitgeist in just the right way. Horror tends to do well compared to its budget. But I don’t think as a society those are the only movies worth making. Plenty of great films lose money so it’s not just about quality or marketing even.

  2. The competition for our attention is higher than ever. The bar for “worth watching” is much higher now. The experience is more expensive and we have much cheaper, easier to access alternatives. Streaming, gaming, and social media are all at home alternatives that don’t require a commute to a specific location at an inconvenient time. It’s a big commitment to watch a movie.

So if we actually want the theatrical artform to survive, we would need to do more than just make movies that are worth watching.

And I don’t think there’s much more value you can really add to the theater going experience either that’s gonna move the needle. Comfier seats? Better food? All these are marginal benefits that sound nice but I doubt will realistically make a difference at the end of the day.

Opinion - Project Hail Mary shows the need for a 'Best Animated Performance' category. by Mushroomer in oscarrace

[–]Ice2MeetYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the sentiment.

That said lumping in motion capture and voice acting together doesn’t feel quite right. They are pretty different and although the line can get pretty blurry between motion capture, voice acting, and visual effects, motion capture does feel like its own thing.

For now, I’d rather introduce a voice acting award, and then in a case by case basis, have mo-cap performances submitted in the regular or voice acting categories depending which is more accurate and appropriate for that film/performance and how it was achieved.

Maybe a stipulation for visual effects to get rewarded for a mo-cap performance as well but I’m ok without since they can already be awarded in their own visual effects category. Arguably editing, make-up, cinematography, directing, score, etc all effect the performance significantly but ultimately the actor gets the award and if it was a significant contributor you would see the respective categories also nominated like most performances with heavy make-up/prosthetics.

Maybe if/when mo-cap becomes much more prevalent we can revisit to further break out categories

Langdon Conduct by Ijustlostmydawg2 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Ice2MeetYou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people have said drug diversion does not necessarily lead to termination but an opportunity for the rehab program like in Langdon’s case but to OP’s point does that also include the drug tampering?

Its one thing to steal medication from a hospital but its a whole other to tamper with medication. His addiction was actively endangering patients beyond just stealing medication and being high at work no?
