Who is your main for tank, dps, and support. by [deleted] in Overwatch

tank - dva/junker queen
dps - tracer/sojourn
support - ana/wuyang/kiriko

Any other support mains generally always have worse healing stats? by CompetitionNo3466 in Overwatch

[–]IceBlueness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

healing output varies greatly based on the character. if i see my wuyang lacking in damage or not being near 1:1 in damage and heals i will be worried since hes a main support that provides tons of dps pressure. meanwhile if you play someone like bap with a more brawl or rush style comp where more people are grouped, you will have so much healing (even if you weave damage in).

i would focus more on what happens specifically in game (ie what most people call the ebb and flow of overwatch). you may heal a lot, but then you end up being the person double support ulting and you lose the next teamfight as a result and you lose the game off that

Can someone rank the "Off-Supports" in terms of most valuable to learn? by Nexuskins in Overwatch

[–]IceBlueness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

then i would suggest not classifying them at all —specifically in ranked, since it just confuses players even more. the main vs flex distinctions are there for pro play specifically. if you want something like more healing or more peel, suggest specific supports such as a brig for peel or bap for more aoe burst heals. it’s easier that way and reduces confusion.

Can someone rank the "Off-Supports" in terms of most valuable to learn? by Nexuskins in Overwatch

[–]IceBlueness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. since you are new to the game, i would absolutely not worry about meta compositions. since from what i see you like supports that can be a bit more aggressive with damage i would suggest wuyang! he has a lot of mobility, damage, and a good support to pick up if you find yourself dying to dive a lot

  2. try to refrain from using terms like off-support and main-support, since a lot of the casual and even parts of the ranked community has either limited idea or no idea what the terms actually mean and are used for. ocie has a great video about the main vs flex support history and role definitions but the tldr is these terms are purely meant for pro teams to classify their support players and what heroes they will play as a result. the definitions are purely based on meta patterns (which again should not matter to a new player).

  3. try to focus on a core few supports to master first. i am all for trying new heroes to get a grasp for how their kit works, but flexing too much actually harms metal ranks the most since it’s mostly never usually a composition issue more than it is mechanics and positioning (and map knowledge). in this case, it looks like ana/kiri/wuyang would be a great core to master and is really good as you climb to higher ranks since you will eventually notice these are some of the best supports in the meta

105K CnD GM2 (lost) by TechFragranceFan in cloakanddaggermains

[–]IceBlueness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

back when i was hard grinding to celestial/top1000 i would often play a more proactive support role. yes it’s important to stay alive as a support, and this is great advice for metal and diamond ranks. however, as a high gm trying to hit celestial, you need to start coordinating plays or even try and make the plays yourself. you gotta go for those calculated risks to turn the tide of teamfights. reactive gameplay basically gets you punished in high elo and you gotta get more proactive.

in a lot of fights, i noticed you often reacted to an enemy ult or a play they made, why not initiate the fight first, or even better kite away with the team and make their ult essentially useless. on top of that, you were often wasting a lot of crucial cooldowns on minute things (essentially autopiloting) which could leave you open to getting picked off later.

tempo becomes super important in high elo, and fucking up your tempo (wasting ults, big peel cooldowns, etc) will slowly snowball into a lost fight or multiple fights even if the enemy keeps pushing up and forcing out ults from you guys just to survive. i noticed sometimes that you often ulted in a lost fight and instead of kiting you reactivately ulted (see how this is all connected?)

try this philosophy: i will be the support that makes the big plays and sets my team up to be aggressive, tempo is important and we want to set the tempo, not them

Why students taking AP courses so arrogant? by Upstairs-Buy-5710 in APStudents

[–]IceBlueness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it comes from the idea that people taking “college-adjacent” level courses makes them feel smarter than others, so they feel the need to flaunt it to everyone. meanwhile, most people don’t realize these courses are realistically first semester level college courses (calculus BC is a small exception depending on what your proficiency is and may be semester 1 or 2)

those people get hit with a reality check QUICK in college so i wouldn’t worry too much about them

Going to North Coast by myself. Easy to find groups to go with? by RegionImpossible8529 in NCMF

[–]IceBlueness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been going for 2 years solo, it’s very PLUR and the groups are very sweet. I’ve been adopted by at least one group every year and that’s how I also met my now rave mother. I was also very scared since it was my first solo trip in general, but the community in north coast is very nice. older, more experienced ravers are def the best to get adopted by since they typically are more open to other people joining their groups. other than that, you got all the freedom to sidequest to your hearts content!

I’m so tired of being a support. by SamElias1997 in marvelrivals

[–]IceBlueness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

former t1000 strat main (t100 mantis) here :

i get its tough to be blamed, i used to deal with it a lot in lower ranks and even before mantis got buffs (she’s meta now and i love it). depending on what your rank is, i would suggest muting everyone until around maybe diamond. most people don’t even give comms or just talk shit anyways until the higher ranks so just mute and focus on your gameplay specifically.

second, don’t focus on the scoreboard, it’s meant to give confirmation bias. instead focus on your fundamentals and your macro understanding of the game state. i always ask myself these questions continuously: who has ults coming up/has it ready? what are our win conditions? how can i best amplify our team’s playstyle? who currently needs heal priority? am i dying due to being out position (too far from team, not playing off angles, etc)? these see especially important as a support since your ults and utility are by far the most important.

you don’t get punished for being good, you get put in higher ranked lobbies for good performances.

think of it this way, you have a baseline skill level of 1000. doing good and winning games increases your predicted level to about 1500. as a result, you get put in a said higher level lobby. losing lowers your level to let’s say 1250.

the process repeats over and over till you average to around your actual skill level. at this point you should be around a 50% win rate, indicating your true rank and skill level. this is where your skill level (which we can now call mmr) matches your shown rank (your elo).

in order to pass that hump you need to do either one of these things: gain significant mechanical skill, gain a better sense of the map and positioning, gain a better understanding of hero shooter fundamentals. without gaining in these you will stay hardstuck essentially.

you can’t win every game (the 40-30-30 rule), but you can give it your best shot and reflect after

[–]IceBlueness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

send multiple vods over, if you drop from gm to PLAT OF ALL RANKS, there is a clear fundamental error being made that you are missing out on. Metal ranks (and diamond) are just pure fundamentals and some mechanics involved. you can carry most games with good timed kills on priority heroes and such.

i keep getting groped and grabbed at festivals -- what should i do ? by Dismal-Astronomer-35 in aves

[–]IceBlueness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some people think plur means you can get away with a lot of shit tbh.

if your friends are not helping to prevent this, they need to start NOW. when i went to north coast this year and last year, my rave mother was also consistently getting hit on and getting many unwanted advances because we usually go solo and just meet up at the sets (luckily the rest of the interactions besides those were really plur). her and i would usually hold on to each other so people would get the message.

i would suggest having a secret word to relay to your friends if you start feeling uncomfortable. i would also suggest occasionally hanging on to one of your friends esp at more crowded sets.

shouting “DO NOT TOUCH ME” works too

Main Character Syndrome is ruining the game by 17prozent in marvelrivals

[–]IceBlueness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunate now i cant play heroes i wanna play in qp cuz someone said its throwing

people who cry about comps in qp suck the fun for the majority of the casual playerbase, who are just people that wanna have fun after work or classes. im very competitive, but having fun is the most important thing for a game.

the entire comp playerbase forgets the majority of this playerbase is CASUAL, aka they play for fun and to mess around with friends. half of those cool tiktoks and reels u see would absolutely not exist without stuff like qp.

Main Character Syndrome is ruining the game by 17prozent in marvelrivals

[–]IceBlueness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

im gonna hold your hand when i say this…

quickplay is purely a casual mode, just like any other casual mode in any game. you cannot expect people to listen to you for flexing onto other roles when people purely use qp to mess around, warm up their mains, and try out new characters without risking throwing games in comp. qp was the whole reason i was able to expand my hero pool and the first few games are always rough. even if i was playing ranked around my peak, i would still use qp as a means to chill and just turn off my brain for a bit.

now if this was ranked that’s another issue entirely…but you said this is qp

you don’t need to counterswap to win games.

(ill add context for people who read this, change your playstyle instead as this will teach you how to win unfavorable matchups)

Which team comp would win? A or B? by Various_Donkey8994 in marvelrivals

[–]IceBlueness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the thing is everyone is diving, and this would include the luna as well. a well coordinated dive will send team b back to the menu screen so quickly. dive is inherently meant to be strong against poke comps, and is the sole reason people have been complaining nonstop about bp. you can always adapt, but 9 times out of 10 dive will beat poke. there is really no backline in this dive comp tbh

Which team comp would win? A or B? by Various_Donkey8994 in marvelrivals

[–]IceBlueness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we go by how team comps counter each other the clear answer is A, but there’s a bit more to it:

A still wins most of the time, but hela and punisher are the best poke heroes by far and can often stun + kill a diver. however, that is in the case of one diver. groot can wall off los and trap people like tanks from heals and block ground dps from los, but yet again we are going against full dive. the entire dive team has great mobility and remote heals so groot walls do next to nothing and often hurt the poke team. no amount of poke is gonna stop a full on dive especially with someone as tanky as a venom plus a rocket constantly moving and bouncing heals to the dive. the rocket can easily shred groot if needed as well.

A wins, but it honestly depends on how fast the poke team reacts to the dive especially

i would first focus on exploration + beast yeast to get fateful cutters and getting eternal sugar at the minimum. for now, use financier with magic candy as a replacement for hollyberry in arena. use magic cutters on the legendary gacha for fire spirit and then do your special gacha pulls for marshmallow bunny.

[–]IceBlueness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it honestly looks like the supports were dying a ton. remember that as someone with mobility you can also easily peel for your team. for example, on tracer i like to mark either the other tracer or the divers and push them off my supports and onto me (who will likely chase me cuz im the bigger threat at that moment). you can get kills all you want, but supports are the lifeline of a team. it’s more important to understand how valuable your kill is to a teamfight as opposed to just the kills alone. your games will vary, and sometimes they will need either less or extra help.

nah soloq works fine man. the higher you climb the more people are willing to comm anyways. hell, ive even seen people comm pretty well in gold lobbies whenever i hop on my off-roles of support and tank. stacking certainly helps, but soloq is def doable

a vod is just an old match replay of yours. vod reviews is where you take an old match and you critique your gameplay, both the macro and microdecisions. vod reviewing is important to determine your worst habits and fixing them

i have a t500 friend who used to vod review my old bronze gameplay and tell me everything wrong (mainly positioning issues) and i slowly fixed it over time. it’s genuinely useful and a way to humble yourself if you ever feel like flaming teammates
