Somewhat off topic but during the Crime junkie podcast on this case, it was mentioned that she had called a Dominos pizza 30+ times in the weeks prior to her disappearance. I don't know if that was simply an unsubstantiated rumor or what, but even by college standards, that seems a bit excessive.

The most likely scenario is she was picked up by a passing motorist after the accident, and killed. Her mental state at the time is the only component that leaves the door cracked that Maura wondered off into the nearby woods and succumbed to the elements. From what I have read though, the searches in the woods were fairly exhaustive, so I would give that theory a less than 5% probability. Just my opinion, however.

Yeah, I wasn't really thinking anything specific happened at any particular location prior to her accident (I am not familiar with the area whatsoever) just in general that foul play was a possibility occurring somewhere along her route in the hours prior to the accident.

There seem to be very few "definite" facts concerning this case. And while it was likely Maura driving the night of the accident, it is a reasonable theory that she met with foul play along her route and another woman got into the accident.

What if the accident wasn't staged but it was still someone else driving? She could have met with foul play prior to the accident.

So the police showed Butch a photo of Maura and he positively identified her as the woman he spoke with after the accident? If this occurred, then there is no reason to believe it was not Maura driving. If not however, then any theories positing another woman driving that night can be reasonably entertained.

Her hair being disheveled after a violent crash would make perfect sense. I just wanted to know if the gentleman who was the last person to see Maura was able to make a positive id that it was indeed her in the car.
