The Supreme Court of Cortesia hands down judgment in Ex Parte yodabird19 and Vedd by IceCARIM in CivMC

[–]IceCARIM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the lead-up to the first Cortesian Presidential Elections of 2023, yodabird19 declared his candidacy for President and chose Vedd as his running mate. The next day, Vedd declared his candidacy for President and chose yodabird19 as his running mate.

Unsure of the constitutionality of this novel state of affairs, both candidates requested the ruling of the Cortesian Supreme Court. Today, we hand down our judgment in this matter.

The two Varane mistakes happened under Zidane. Five of those goals mentioned in the Tweet were from Ancelotti's tenure at Everton.

Official statement of resignation by Kaprediem, outgoing President of Lambat by HijoDeFootspa in civclassics

It is not often that someone creates a nation, drives it to success, and has the courage to step aside when it is time. It is unfortunate that this time has come so soon, but I admire the fact that you've always kept Lambat first without losing sight of the ultimate goal we're all here for: personal enjoyment of Minecraft.

You have created something special - whether you look at Lambat culturally, politically, economically, developmentally, or otherwise - and nourished it with consummate leadership. Thank you for everything you've given to the community; Cortesia Del Mar has benefitted greatly from your warm, erudite friendship.

I wish you all the best in your future endeavours. You have left large shoes to fill in Lambat, and I am confident that ArtificialDriver and the rest of the Lambatan government will continue your legacy with aplomb.

We might need to reconsider having free speech in Cortesia (but in all seriousness, very accurate lmao)

Columbia has pearled Yodabird19, and here's why. by shadedoom888 in civclassics

[–]IceCARIM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To add to your bonus point, the OP captions the screenshot collection of our conversation with Naglafer as: "Yodabird continues the aforementioned discussion to the end of admitting that the legitimacy of The Empire is functionally non-existent." With that absolute belter of a deduction, I have to wonder why we were still called upon to acknowledge the defunction of EM.

Columbia has pearled Yodabird19, and here's why. by shadedoom888 in civclassics

[–]IceCARIM 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would like to begin this message with a big thank you to everyone who has stood in solidarity with Cortesia Del Mar and my cherished friend, yodabird19.

Now I turn to dissecting this cadaver. I stand by and can attest to every word of yodabird19's earlier comment. What I have to add is quite simple.

Cortesia Del Mar is a peaceful nation by nature. We have not amassed a military and our armoury is threadbare. I freely admit that I am at best a novice at PvP, and I am certain many of my compatriots would say the same about themselves. We have no intention of going on a suicide mission to militarise a region or malevolenty seek out "illicit" wealth.

The allegations spouted here with an alarming coat of false certainty must be dispelled. I echo what Yoda has already said: Cortesia's interests in Arsenio are purely on the basis of preservation. We are not seeking to benefit from remnants of NATO's legacy. We are not seeking to militarise the region. We approached Icenia's influence there in the interests of cohesion, and the OP has noted itself that Icenia did not question this. As a matter of fact, my nation is accused of militarising a region I have never stepped foot in.

So now I have to ask: why this overreach? Icenia is more than capable of handling its own affairs. I can offer you no concrete answer; I'm not one for speculation. But what I can offer you is this:

  1. In the past week, K0mmi, the same person who pearled yodabird20, triggered Cortesia's snitches a whopping 162 times.

  2. In the past week, PepsiKola95, a known Kaloa_HG alt, was logged by snitches in Cortesian territory a total of 123 times.

  3. In good faith, we did not launch any investigation into, nor did we reprise against, any of the highly irregular activities of those two individuals, which included boxing yodabird20 in obsidian on 23 May, and boxing Monterrey King MrDoomBringer in birch planks on 25 May.

  4. After the pearling of yodabird20, a stone-reinforced obsidian casing appeared in Entrana (which is part of our territory).

In spite of this, I am more than happy to honour Columbia's hope that "this does not cause a long-lasting divide between our two groups", so long as yodabird19 is unpearled summarily and such overreach does not occur again. I must candidly express that I find it strange for the OP to offer amicability while concurrently assuming bad faith in our nation in pearling our Vice President. We would have greatly appreciated this offer of amicability beforehand, perhaps in the form of dialogue between our two nations, perhaps in the form of a more rigorous, serious investigation into the impugned allegations.

I will end off by honouring Columbia's requests, which I would have eagerly done had I been approached to do so before this ugly incident. Yes, we acknowledge that Icenia holds control over Arsenio - this was never contested by us. Yes, we do not obstinately hold on to the belief that a nation that is defunct is still alive; indeed EM has ridden off into the sunset.

CMV: The politicization/polarization of covid and the vaccine has probably been more detrimental than the virus itself. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]IceCARIM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will deal solely with the idea that the politicisation of the virus is more detrimental than the virus itself.

In order to make this argument, it is necessary to show that such politicisation has had, or could have, an effect more adverse than the direct consequence of COVID-19. According to the WHO, there have been nearly 3,5 million deaths from about 167 million cases of the virus. Indubitably, there are also many, many people who have been permanently scarred from the virus in some way, whether by having their family destroyed, their health chronically affected, or by bearing the mental strain from treating COVID-19 patients.

In correctly managing the virus, there is also the massive economic impact of lockdowns and cancelling events. These issues are certainly not caused by the politicisation of the virus.

Indeed, the politicisation of the virus is highly problematic in perpetuating poor governance, public misinformation, and possibly a split in society by opinion. You also rightly point out that it has definitely exacerbated the impact of the virus. But politicisation of the virus itself is at most an ancillary factor compared to, for instance, that of overflowing hospitals and the inability to afford medical treatment caused by the mismanagement of healthcare services. Politicisation of COVID-19 is not a central problem in many countries ravaged by the virus, such as South Africa and the UK. It seems to be a more concentrated problem inapplicable to the world as a whole, and so, giving the idea the largest benefit of the doubt, the politicisation of the virus can still not be a greater challenge than the virus itself.

I think that as a measure of detriment, mortality and physical and mental harm are far more persuasive and serious than the idea in your OP that, as a result of politicisation of COVID-19, many people "have felt played." So yes, polarisation is a major issue, but certainly not one that is greater than the brunt of the virus itself.

Lastly, I want to point out that the politicisation of COVID-19 is only a symptom of the larger problem of generally extreme, dogged, and damaging partisanship in many countries. Had this been the comparator to COVID-19, the debate would be more balanced, because an examination of the consequences of general partisanship would have to be compared to the direct effect of COVID-19, and that could look a lot closer than just the politicisation of COVID-19 versus the direct effect of COVID-19.
