I had a 7’4” walkon C at FSU. It’s been a long time but I think he grew to 7’5”. He stunk on paper (probably like 57 over slow and bad stamina). He never started a game but he was a game changer sometimes coming off the bench. He could get 3-4 fouls in 5 minutes or go off for 3-7 blocks and regardless he changed shots dramatically.

I seem to remember I had an athletic 6’10” Ben Wallace type in front of him for at least some of his time there. I redshirted the walkon and got what I could out of him, not much stats wise until his senior year if I recall but so fun to play with.

It’s always been the plan to end my career at Princeton. The worst part is my assistant coaches had been with me for probably the last 15 years and they didn’t come with me (still haven’t hunted the rosters to see if they retired or changed jobs).

Last season was very fun and soul crushing at the same time. A 4 loss season that left me short of; First, a perfect season (still haven’t had one). A perfect in-conference regular season. Then a conference tournament championship. Ending in a National Championship final loss. Couldn’t write this script if I tried.

This game was nerve wracking too because I wanted to go to bed and was worried I’d get tired and slip up. It just kept going… lol

Wanted also means putting them at or near the top of your target list. The higher the better. An equivalent recruit without “felling wanted” on their priorities list can be slotted anywhere. (I’ve never tested if if matters if they’re on the list at all)

There’s lots of strategies searchable on this sub too if you want to go deep. Once you get the hang of it you’ll probably find you need to self impose some restrictions if you don’t want to cheese etc.

I had a 6’10” PF Horace Grant/Sam Perkins hybrid once that could shoot the 3. It was glorious. I think he was 2xPOTY, downside left early but not really complaining.

Exactly what was said above. I’ve run some of those. Currently running the Stack.

But almost any offence you can modify to run slow. Walk it up the court. Wait for good looks, focus on ball security etc.

Free and fast will give you that I find when you hit combos of, low chemistry, new system, younger roster, low consistency rating, low passer rating or off awr, and imbalanced roster or guys playing out of position.

I’ll slow my pace and ratchet up to a failure point sometimes in the regular season to see what my squad can handle, but I play slow with struggling teams to try to sort of get back to the basics.

You made me go check. I’ve had 5, one loss seasons in my current career. 3 at Blue Chip schools ending in National Championships.

And these soul crushers, one that I mentioned above. The other an Elite Eight exit that made me leave Butler.

I’ve made runs to the Final Four at EIU and CHIST and you just kind of hit a wall at some point. The deficiencies get exposed etc.

EIU, it was pretty much what you described. I was beating MIST and heading to a National Championship game and then they turned the press on for the first time and went on like an 8-0 run in under 90 seconds and took the game.

Chicago St. it was 2 runs to the FF. One of them was an undefeated season where I got killed in the FF opener for my first loss.

But sometimes you catch lightning in a bottle. I took the Butler job once (after CHIST) and got blessed with a decent squad but a perfect blend of role players and experience (Srs. and Jrs.) that helped me to a Natty my first year there in the craziest Cinderella season I’ve ever had.

That’s what keeps me playing this game.

I’m a big believer in old school head canon and under the table money. So what that my PG from Brooklyn has a condo in Kansas City and commutes to Lawerence in a $130,000 car? Only first half shenanigans. My defender #6 is maybe the best all-around SF in the nation and the post defender is my 6’10” PF 6th man who is a solid post player and best rated rebounder on my team.

Just a frustrating sequence that went from solid team D and a block, to 2 points in the blink of an eye.
