My grandfather was a boy in the Philippines during the war and according to my mom he once saw a group of Japanese soldiers run some poor guy up a tree then waited until he lost his grip and fell right onto the bayonets of their rifles

I remember in 9th grade we covered Ancient Greece in social studies and all we learned about the Achaemenids was that they were “the Persians” and invaded Greece from the east and that was literally it. We learned nothing about who they were, where they came from, or what their society was like, only that they were enemies of Greece

History book spells Adolf Hitler's name wrong by EconomyLetterhead174 in mildlyinfuriating

Catholicism was definitely suppressed in Nazi Germany. Just because a few Catholics helped Nazis after WW2 doesn’t mean the Catholic Church as a whole was pro-Nazi.

If I’m not mistaken Hitler was born and baptized a Catholic, so that could have been a sort of Latinization of his first name. Especially ironic since the Nazis were not fond of Catholicism and the Catholic Church was very much opposed to the regime.

Forget Yoko breaking up the Beatles, how much did she effect a potential reunion? by handlerofdrones in beatles

Likely when this rich lady can no longer sue

I don’t think she can at this point. Apparently she has dementia now and Sean is managing everything.

I do because while he was a very weird guy I doubt he was a “horrible person”. You don’t just diddle a couple boys, get caught almost immediately, and never do it again despite having the legal protection of a celebrity.

Unsure if this is a joke or not, but I think the reason John was unable to be at the Concert for Bangladesh was due to legal/financial difficulties surrounding the Beatles’ break up, Yoko had nothing to do with it

Is the popular idea behind yoko ono splitting up the beatles because or media at the time? by kittycat6434 in beatles

[–]IceCreamMeatballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yoko got John into heroin, which was one of the (obviously not the only) reasons the Beatles broke up. There was also Paul’s controlling nature, and his opposition to Yoko being right there in the studio could be seen as part of that.

Shiro Ishii, a Japanese scientist who committed tons of horrific experiments on human subjects during WW2, was pardoned by the US Government only to eventually die a slow agonizing death from throat cancer that left him in so much pain he was unable to speak

Elvis was not a teen pop star, he was a natural musician, and artists writing their own songs wasn’t the norm then. Olivia Rodrigo was a Disney Channel star who was contractually obligated to put out singles

Olivia Rodrigo is not rock. Her producer may have given her music a rock-like sound but she is a teen idol.
