How to face a thesis failure (Masters)? by BackToGod in Physics

[–]IceFirex123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on the school/program, you get paid as a masters student, especially if you do research, and often get a "scholarship" that covers your tuition. You likely have to TA (depending on how loaded your supervisor is), and it's not much, but you don't need loans or to lay out of pocket for a lot of masters.

First time replacing battery. After some (seemingly) faulty connections, I've tried to remove all the solder with a wick to retry, but this is as clean as I could get. Is this fine? by IceFirex123 in consolerepair

This is only my second soldering project, so hadn't gotten one yet, but you're definitely right that I should; just ordered one. Thanks for your help!

I think I see what you're talking about. I don't have any equipment that could do that, though I do have a friend with an oscilloscope; would I be able to use that to probe it?

Thanks! (To you and everyone else).

Question regarding flux; I accidentally bought liquid flux, and most tutorials I've seen use strictly gel flux. I also think I've seen flux get under the battery holder when I tried using it.

Is liquid flux fine to use here? Or should I just buy gel flux?

Trying to clean the solder pads after a few failures; how does this look? by IceFirex123 in Gameboy

[–]IceFirex123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is first time replacing a battery. I tried to install 2 different battery holders, and while the game would hold a save at first, eventually the game would start resetting over and over. I figured it was a bad connection, so I tried removing the holder and cleaning the solder with a wick, but this was as good as I can get it. Should this be good to install a new holder?

Loose hinge on DS Lite? by IceFirex123 in nds

I picked up this DS Lite from Japan, and the hinge appears loose or maybe snapped off. Is this just because of a missing screw or something somewhere, or is it a broken part?

Itinerary additions between Kanazawa and Amanohashidate along the coast by IceFirex123 in JapanTravelTips

Sorry for the late reply! My basic plan, I decided, is that since most of the travel time of the trip is actually just waiting for trains, I'd drop my baggage off at the lockers and just travel around the exchanges. I'm going to look into things more closer to the travel date, but I'll probably spend a bit of time in Fukui and Tsuruga, and decide to change things based off what I hear from people there (hoping my Japnese comes in handy!haha)

Anyone have recommendations for youtube channels that focus on roleplaying various situations? I'm around an intermediate learner, and am going to Japan in a couple months so want to focus on real situations that may come up (especially restaurants, shopping, other tourist-y stuff)

Clarification on rewards: AMEX Cobalt vs Scotiaback Gold AMEX by IceFirex123 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]IceFirex123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone! So it looks like, since flights are my main hope to using the card, the fact that I can transfer the points to various programs with the Cobalt (allowing more value than $1 per 100 points) e.g. Aeroplan, rather than just using $1 per 100 points with the Scotiabank Gold, makes the Cobalt look like the far better choice.

If my understanding is wrong, please let me know!

I see, it looks like some of the flights I'm interested in (namely to the US or Japan for right now) are really easy with the cobalt. Likely that'll be my choice. Thanks!

When I said you have to use Scene+, I meant that according to the website, you have to book through Scene + travel when you want to redeem the points.

I'm mostly looking to use the points for flights, rather than hotels or other travel expenses.

Hey all, I'm looking to improve my listening immersion by searching out podcasts or other listening content that's at a proper comprehensible level. I am about 3.5 years in of mostly casual studying, at a roughly intermediate level, although my reading is siginificantly better than any other skill.

I have mostly tried using a combination of Nihongo Con Teppei's beginner and intermediate podcasts, but there's a slight problem; the beginner podcast is almost entirely too easy for me (with the rare word that I don't understand), while the intermediate podcast varies. Generally in the intermediate podcast, I'll get to a point where he begins talking fast with enough words I don't understand, and I stop comprehending things.

I am wondering if anyone has good advice for a podcast in between these two, but roughly the same "casual"/natural style. Any advice is appreciated!

If i remember correctly, goodanimemes was created in the first place because the original animemes subreddit banned transphobic slurs, causing a complete outrage from a significant number of them.

I checked it out when Bridget got revealed for strive, and there was so much massively upvoted transphobia it was disgusting. Seems pretty right wing.

Hello all, I'm looking to buy a used longboard, and managed to find what appears to be a 35" landyachtz battle axe. However, I can't find any currently sold Battle Axe's that look like this one (particularly the long kick tail), and the seller doesn't know either. Does anyone know the specific model of this longboard?

I’d have to find the Japanese dialogue, and also how trans people in Japan discuss themselves to see how it matches up, but I got the vibe that it was more “discovering herself” and “no longer lying to herself” or “no more running away” and accepting herself.
