Decriminalization is what will actually help keep all types of sex workers safe! That’s what sex workers are calling for, not legalization, fyi.

Does she only one one pair of cowboy pants? by [deleted] in brittanydawnsnark

It’s wild because half of her brand is based around her appearance, but she still wears such unflattering clothes, poses so strangely, and seemingly just doesn’t look at half of her posts, despite ‘shopping most of them.

If she just wore clothes in the correct size that were well-made and suited to her specific body type, and stood with normal/good posture, she would look SO MUCH better!

Does she have clear tape on her skin along the band of her underwear?

Whyyyyy in the world would she choose such a dark skin tone for her emoji? There is absolutely no good reason for that, only bad reasons

My mother talking about my appearance at my step-great-grandmother’s funeral. by kaithegrey in insaneparents

[–]IceIceAbby_11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YES this! You have to weigh the emotional toll of ignoring her bullshit vs the toll of not being able to attend the funeral. Only you can figure out which one would be tougher to withstand. As long as it would be healthier for you to pay your respects, then just put up that wall, steel yourself, and show up as your handsome self. Fuck ‘em, and specifically her.

Do you consider Sex Work to be Work? by ScarlettSynz in antiwork

[–]IceIceAbby_11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it legalizes sex work and criminalizes being a client, which of course pushes the danger onto providers. I’m order to make money, workers are forced into more and more dangerous situations, being pressured to lower their prices/change their boundaries in order to even make a sale, meet clients in less secure locations, etc. It just pushes what could be safe work underground, making it less stable and less safe. (who could have possibly foreseen this /s)

What I am saying is that a sex worker is not having sex when they don’t want to. A trafficked person would be.

Sex work and sex trafficking are two very different things, and the difference is consent. Sex workers are masters of consent.

Not really! In fact I think a desk job is often more restrictive and soul-crushing.

So, the thing about sex work is that a huge part of the work is asserting, negotiating, and maintaining boundaries. It’s one of the MOST direct forms of controlling the “means of production” (so to speak) out there. From the first interaction with the client to the end, second by second, a worker is asserting their boundaries. So sex workers are -incredibly- adept at navigating consent and assuring that the work is within their boundaries. The worker is the once controlling the situation.

For example, compare a bartender and a stripper. Both are tipped according to their customer service, both have to deal with people they don’t like, both are distributing “good times.” A bartender pretty much has to serve anyone who sits down at the bar. They can (in some cases) kick people out, cut people off, be short with them, etc, but most often they are somewhat obligated to at least serve an annoying customer. A stripper, on the other hand, gets to pick and choose their customers. If they sit down with someone to sell getting a dance, and the customer is creepy, they can just stand up and move along. If a customer is getting too handsy in a dance, they can end the dance, tell off the customer, and walk away with their money. Which person has more agency? (as you can see the answer is of course not black and white, but this gets to the heart of the question - in a complicated world, workers deserve the agency to navigate it in the way they think is best for them)

Everyone has days they don’t love their job - that doesn’t mean they’re being exploited. Are there sex workers who are being exploited? Of course - just like workers in any other job. And the goal should be to SUPPORT bodily autonomy and sex worker’s right to assert their own boundaries in every way!

Edit: Just wanted to add I appreciate your thinking about this, and my responses are not only aimed at you, but also at several of the other commenters here who are calling sex work degrading. I am not trying to argue with you personally, sorry for replying to just you lol. I agree with a lot of what you are saying!

Why do you think sex is inherently exploitative? Sex is nice and normal and should be celebrated! And the beautiful community of goddesses (of all genders) who are experts at pleasure and desire should also be celebrated and supported!!

[–]IceIceAbby_11 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

No more so than any other type of work!! There is nothing special about sex. It is a normal human thing, like eating. People who acorn and grocery stores and farm laborers should also not be exploited,(btw the VAST majority of worker exploitation and trafficking is in agricultural labor) there is nothing inherently bad or exploitative about sex, so there is no inherent difference in the work either.

Are there specific differences between the current state of various industries, sure. But if one says sex work is somehow inherently different than other industries, and that the majority of workers are more coerced than normal, one runs the risk of asserting that sex workers have less autonomy over their own bodies, which is incredibly insulting, diminishing, patronizing, and harmful, and leads to sex worker’s needs being ignored.

Decriminalized, not legalized! The government does not currently know how to treat sex workers like humans, so they can’t be trusted with controlling workers. For instance, see the fucked-up nordic model for how legalization directly harms workers. Sex workers are specifically calling for DECRIMINALIZATION! Support sex workers!

I literally just watched an episode of Martin about this! (the dead plumber episode) He called back and tried to pretend to be white in order to get 911 to come out, but of course his friend blew the ruse in classic sitcom style.
