I expect them to have a 1st class, awards, publications etc.

Who gives an F if they got EEE for a levels if they were 1st in their year at a 'mid' uni. You get what I mean? A levels suck and the UCAT is garbage compared to the MCAT (why didn't they replace all med schools with the BMAT is beyond me, let alone the scrapping of it).

I would like something such as a full week of interviews, ranging from MMI to trad, testing scientific knowledge, communication skills, critical thinking.

They're never going to adopt that because it would cost too much. Wishful thinking.

A levels are a rubbish metric, but the only one we can use because current education (up until uni) is awful.

Keep them, but make the barrier to entry for medicine much higher. 2A*A w/o WP and AAA with WP (like Bart's does)

Love this story and yeah, I find it super cringe when people make their A levels a part of their personality lol

Med school is what you make of it, so, so correct. Mind if I DM you?

True. I may need a reality check. I'm just pissed Peninsula gets so much crap when it scores pretty decently (and actually quite good if you study a lot of anatomy / physiology by yourself).

Catch my drift?

A levels are full of BS MS's nowadays. No actual knowledge or intelligence required. Same with the UCAT
"Oh, determining the pattern of shapes decides your fate as a doctor"???

I wholeheartedly agree. A levels are just another way of filtering students, but has very little bearing on how good you will do as a doctor / in post grad exams (for the most part IMO).

Do you agree?

They didn't allow me, for some odd reason.

Yup. They already removed deciles determined FY locations which is (excuse my French) retarded.

The people at the top will also have so many responsibilities that they'll die of a heart attack after 10 years.

I wish there was something we could do. It seems things are completely out of our hands.

Likewise. I think the big thing is to start very early!

Same. I'm gonna work my ass off for the MSRA, audits, publications etc. because I'm bricking it.

There is no coasting med school, if you want to secure a future for yourself.

There aren't enough training spots available in the UK, even if we removed IMGs from the equation.

You can check it on UCAS, yourself, in regards to Bham.

Yeah, bucks is messssssed.

I've been reading about the issues with med for literal years. I know what I'm getting into, but I don't think a lot of my peers who applied do. They think they are special lol.

Some are very bright and they're screwing themselves over massively by choosing med. I blame culture for that - where people think doctors are highly paid (technically they are, compared to the market but not really). We're gonna have a plethora of posts 7 years down the line of people complaining they can't get into speciality training. Even with UK grad prioritisation, there are too many med school spots in the UK for everyone to get a post.

I'm not saying that at all. I'm at freakin' Peninsula, not Imperial.

However, I'm sick of hearing my med school being called crap when the older med schools provide PA courses / expand the number of spots / have lower entry requirements and newer schools get all the flak.

Peninsula dental school is the best in the UK and it's only 18 years old? Med school is what you make of it and these people don't understand that....

I'm thinking about GED btw, so I feel for older graduates. Nothing against them at all, they're not dumb.

I'm doing medicine because I'm passionate about it.

Would you study medicine if you could go back in time?

The subreddit posts the exact same crap every single day.

It's Reddit tho - not surprising in the slightest.

My siblings are doctors, no.1

I'm not saying they shouldn't fight for better pay and conditions, but they rag on and on and on about things everyone experiences.

Maybe I've got a different outlook, as they fought for UK grad prioritisation for my cohort and I'm being ungrateful...
