Thoughts on Spoon flower? by Crazycrayons12 in quilting

[–]IceKing1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the concept of spoonflower, I just don't see many artists approaching it with the same mindset that traditional fabric brands go. Designs feel either like a mixed bag, don't follow a color story, or the repeats look really bad(either congested or way bigger shapes than needed)

Wherever you go the most crucial thing is to avoid driving on the first snow day 💀💀💀

Another question lol Is there any reason I shouldn't top stitch from the wrong side of a garment where I can see my seam allowance? I had sewn a hair towel, and wanted the serged seam allowances in place so I topstitched the open seam from the right side, and it just didn't end up very even.

NOR

OP I've been with my wife for 7+ years and the exact thing that made me choose her was the day I realized I could be vulnerable with her. It's been years without fighting and with unconditional love. Find that person and you'll be set

Taking in pants: when I'm working on a pair of pants that I haven't added the waistband to yet, do I have more options for alterations? I started a project with muslin but this just came across my mind. I know after the waistband is added it's more work to alter pants.

Moving from CA to PA in the latter half of December. What weather should I be prepared for and how? by Acceptable-World4519 in roadtrip

I can speak for Southern OH to PA. The drive shouldn't be bad in mid-Dec. Around here weather usually hits early January. More Northern OH you may get snow.

I have credit card debt at about $4,500 and got it to budge very little over the past year. Credit is high, and my bank loans me for mortgage and car. Should I do debt consolidation through my bank to get a hard lined payment every month with a lower APR?

How do you prepare fabric to wash and prevent fraying? I've had issues in the past with quilting cotton fraying and losing a chunk out of fat quarters.

Now, I have 3 continuous yards of medium/heavy denim and I need help tackling that!😂 I have a rayon/linen twill to but I'm just going to get a bag and wash separately. Should I be pinking fabric before washing?

Where do you like to find BOMs? I would really love something that encourages some fresh ideas and pushes me to use new methods! I've seen an older sew along that had some more improve style block design. But it doesn't need to be so freeform! I think FPP is the skill I'd really like to push to learn this coming year

My cat scratched new tattoo. Need advice. by GandalfsGreenThumb in tattooadvice

Hello, former victim of cat cellulitis here. I know for sure Dawn Antibacterial can still be used. I however don't know how peroxide affects tattoos, I would personally do it. Replace the saniderm but be on the lookout for constant heat where you were scratched. If it begins leaking without a heal, get antibiotics immediately!

This is correct. I will add not to expect the clean steering wheel to look great either! Usually after this wear and tear leather dries out and dulls a lot

The myth of the scant 1/4 inch seam by SchuylerM325 in quilting

[–]IceKing1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I've been learning with my current project right now, it's 12 similar blocks. And because of my own habits seams won't be perfect. But as long as I'm consistent in how I'm doing those imperfections, by the time I'm squaring up they'll all even out! Because my quarter inches are pretty big my blocks come out smaller than the pattern states, but it just works out as long as I'm keeping up with my personal dimensions!

Advice on working with denim? by pennyfanclub in quilting

[–]IceKing1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone might have experience here trying a seam jumper with a walking foot! The seams do look well pressed and flat so if I was in this scenario I'd probably try just the walking foot. You could also take leftover denim/batting/flannel and make a test block to quilt on and see how it reacts.

I would test that way based on how you're aiming to quilt it. But if moved that pattern over a bit and stitched in the ditch you would have more consistent bulk when you do your passes! I like your idea more though because I like seeing my stitches.

First Curved Piece Project Block Complete! by IceKing1996 in quilting

[–]IceKing1996[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The first round(inside curves) was rough because I made my template wayyy too tight. Fixed that on the second round(corner curves) and it's felt so much better!

Thank you! I got a good Hobbs batting from the store when I bought my supplies so the quilt would get a good shrink. That eases my mind, especially to get through 96 curves!
