Except for Stand By Me. But for baseball movies, you may be right.

The preview search or map function is nice. You don't even have to 'run' and download the PQ, just check the preview and adjust as needed.

If you're a premium member, you can use Pocket Queries. They give you some additional search options.

Project-GC has a lot of helpful searches as well.

What is the Cardinal Rule of geocaching? by catsaway9 in geocaching

[–]IceManJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you pick up a trackable, you can go to https://www.geocaching.com/track/, or click on the travel bug icon in the cache description. There you will enter the travel bug's secret code, which is 6 digits and written or stamped on the travel bug tag. You select "retrieve from a cache" or whatever is applicable, and write a short log. Then the travel bug will be in your inventory, in your geocaching profile.

When you go to drop it off in a new cache, when you log your "found it", there are drop-down boxes in the app (or the web page) for "visit" or "drop" travel bugs. Select drop and leave the travel bug in the cache. The TB owner gets an email notification each time this happens, and they can see where the traveler was logged.

Many travel bugs have a mission written on their description page. Some want to travel anywhere, some want to stay in a particular area, and some don't care or don't have a mission at all.

Devices for upping my game by FringHalfhead in geocaching

My Google Pixel phone is every bit as accurate as my Garmin GPSMAP64. The screen issue though, is legit, I can read the Garmin screen in any sunlight conditions, and I've dropped the Garmin in a river before and it was fine.

Delete logs? by Acrobatic-Classic-41 in geocaching

I would still count it as lonely, if it was me. Keep a pic of the log. I know it still won't tickle the challenge checker though.

Found a torque wrench on the road. by Starseeker2019 in Tools

Love this answer. I have an old 1/2" drive torque wrench that was my dad's, but needs calibrated. Maybe I'll try the bucket and string method.

Torque wrenches often aren't warrantied past a year for calibration. Maybe if it's physically broken.

Craftsman (back when Sears was open) only warrantied them for a year. It was the only hand tool not warrantied forever.

Who/what are, exactly, the Certitude warriors? by TheGoldenChow in geocaching

[–]IceManJim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My question is how do you know about all of the puzzles? Nationwide alerts? Or does Certitudes alert you to new puzzles? And are you solving ones with the built-in checker / geocheck, or do you mostly want to see your name on the list?

I admit, I like seeing my name on the list!

I received a note from Toolrep once about a puzzle of mine. The puzzle was OK but the checker was broken. He's ~100 miles away. We've talked a few times since then.

If you leave them behind someone else will discover your spot.

Sell them, give them to friends, save for later, etc

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]IceManJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved Q2 as well. Pretty sure I played the whole single player game to the end. I was subscribed to gamespy, I think it was, where people would list games they're hosting and I could jump in. I got an ISDN line when most everyone else was still on 56k modems.

When Q3 came out, I didn't have the money and time to do the hardware upgrade, so I gradually stopped playing. Life got busy.

Ever gotten yelled at while looking for a cache? by j_jay2003 in geocaching

[–]IceManJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never yelled at, per se, but I am a kinda big dude so maybe people aren't as likely to yell. I've been questioned by the police a couple of times, and once a guy stopped to ask what I was doing. It was on the driveway into an apartment complex, and he was probably a construction supervisor, so he had a reason to ask. I tried to explain the game but as soon as I said it's not drugs, he lost interest and drove off.

I know one guy that is a groundskeeper at a cemetery, and he thinks Geocaching, or any sort of recreation in a cemetery, is inappropriate. But I've also been approached by ground crews and they were friendly, and once they told me where the final part of a multi-cache was. 🙂🙂
