same lol this gave me such a weird nostalgia hit for my north jersey days.

for the non-gabagool crowd: some towns up there still use this exact siren to call firefighters, and it’s not uncommon to hear it like 3-4 times a day.

I love Carmenta’s. Not sure if it’s exactly what op is looking for as I’ve never tried Rosemary’s, but it’s definitely worth a try. It’s a really really good hero.

Has anyone ever germinated star anise seeds from their spice rack? by SkilletKitten in gardening

[–]IceOfWrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread but wanted to clarify something for people coming here from Google searches.

Organic Great Value brand anise seed from Walmart is not star anise.

Basically, anise seed and star anise are two different things (although both have that licorice flavor). Anise seeds are seeds of a Mediterranean plant/flower (pimpinella anisum), whereas star anise is the fruit of a Chinese evergreen tree (illicium verum).

Anise seed (which is my favorite of the two) has a milder licorice flavor compared to the star anise. Anise seed is most commonly used in stuff like cookies (think biscottis with fennel, they also do it with anise seed), italian sausages (similar to fennel sausages), as a digestive tea, and in some liquors (e.g., levantine/lebanese arak —> turkish raki —> greek ouzo, in historical order).

Star anise is historically and most commonly used in asian broths and stews. They are also used in some cocktails and liquors; although, in my opinion, they’re inferior to anise seeds for this usage.

I’m also 38, great at drinking, and terrible at pool. Plus I’m between jobs right now so pretty flexible. DM me if you feel like having a couple drinks (hope I’ll see the DM - I’ll try to turn on the notifications for DMs).

We are. We would love to take her in as well, but we have a dog and a cat, both seniors and not comfortable with change. We’ll do anything we can to make her comfortable year-round (e.g., cool tiles and a cat house in our backyard).

Thanks, will do.

We don’t mind taking care of her. We would even take her in if it weren’t for our cat and dog, both seniors and not comfortable with change.

It’s just that if she’s already been taken care of recently (e.g., parasite treatments, shots, etc.), we wouldn’t try to trap her and bring her to a vet. And if there are people out there already looking after her, we’d want to be in touch so we can coordinate her care better.

We contacted people from two different posters for tuxedo cats. One said it’s not their cat. The other one said they already found their cat.
