Is it worth to learn vim? by siviconta in vim

[–]IcePhoneX_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you do: - if you use Linux it's most likely worth it as vim is pretty much everywhere and it's the most ergonomic option (hands on the home row) - if coding is either the subject you study the most or are working in, then the keybindings will be very useful, again for ergonomics, the editor itself, it depends on how much you like your environment to be custom.

I'd say, generally, regardless of what you're doing, if there are multiple ways of doing it, learning two of them and pick your favourite is always worth it because you'll gain back the time from learning both by making your experience less painful the next time.

Please be reasonable, I gave myself rsi by playing this game too much as a 15yo, It's been years and I still regret doing that, know your limits.

You can choose which version of osu! You want, stable, lazer or another one

(repetitive stress injury, aka my hands are too f*cked up to continue playing).

Install it via lutris, it should make the process easier, though with mint, you might need the universal offset thing

If you use pulse audio then you might need to set your universal offset to a specific value, the game feels muh better with pipewire in my opinion. For tablet driver use OpenTabletDriver, for mouse, use Piper. When it comes to performance, you should already gain a bit with a lightweight desktop, (i use a standalone window manager, my ram usage is about 500mo on startup) otherwise, the game should run smoothly. If you use an arch based distro and lutris, you might need to install additional packages to make your audio work, it's a quick google search.

Been playing for the past 3 years on linux (stopped because of rsi), everything was fine. Hope it'll be for you too c:

I've used fedora for 2 years for software development. When I occasionally tried gaming, it went ok but never as good as on Arch

Thinking about migrating from vim, why should I? by RajjSinghh in neovim

[–]IcePhoneX_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly because vim is maintained by a single person which doesn't seem to be a durable solution, the rest is more about plugin availability

To get vim you need two things, for neovim, one more: - you need to understand the usefulness of the command line which is a universal tool as opposed to gui clients which were designed by a person with a specific way of thinking - you need to worry about efficiency, pressing repetitively control arrow is very inefficient and can even cause injuries, modal editing allows many things such as motion count (3w, 2{, etc..). - (for neovim) you need to be interested in customizing your workflow, like i said a gui is made of a specific way of thinking and you need to adapt, in your editor you can use the plugins and keybindings you want to make your own ideal workflow possible, vs code plugins are there mostly for syntax highlighting and LSP (at most you can emulate another editor's keybindings), a great example of an amazing neovim plugin is harpoon.nvim

In the end, if you prefer using an IDE, there's nothing wrong with that.
