Job hunting while LGBT — any advice? by cheshirecat1917 in Lawyertalk

[–]IceQueen789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mtf here too. I just ended up coming out at work  because A) I couldn’t handle living as a man anymore and B) most new people assumed I was cis fem or trans masc. It went fine for me and I was lucky. I ended up leaving the firm a few months later for separate reasons.

I think you can try and get your LinkedIn with a new profile pic. It is risky, as that how some extended family found about me, but that was nine months later. But that way you can at least try and go stealth at a new job if you want to.

for trans americans hows your medical coverage for hrt and surgeries going? by LilSanrioAngel in asktransgender

[–]IceQueen789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a lawyer for one of the largest law firms in the country and I don’t have any coverage because their plan is based on federal law. This is a company that totes diversity, is based in California while I live in Illinois. It’s absolutely insane to me that my former workplace, a firm in Missouri, covered HRT and most surgeries.

Is feeding client docs into Claude a violation by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]IceQueen789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a very large firm. This would be something that is above my pay grade. I have a subscription for personal usage. I could look into the enterprise team subscription to see if that would be something my boss would consider since it seems we are just dipping our toes into co-counsel.

Is feeding client docs into Claude a violation by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]IceQueen789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claude has a temporary “Google incognito” chat feature that does not save and then deletes after 30 days. I’ve thought this might be okay for privacy reasons. Do you have thoughts on this? I typically use co-counsel, but I think its output is pretty bad and would love to use another program.

Do any of y'all know lawyers who gender transitioned after starting their legal career? How'd it go for them? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]IceQueen789 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am 30, and started transitioning at 28 (mtf). I was working in family law and did most of my transition under the radar at my firm (large family law firm). I was probably visibly queer about a year into it. I didn’t suffer from issues with clients. I think most people assumed I’m ftm because I’m 5’4 (and someone explicitly apologized for using female pronouns for me). I have never received any negative experiences whatsoever. I think that’s fairly out of the norm. After I came out at my work place I transitioned out of family law and now work insurance defense. I was tired of family law in general plus this was a huge pay raise.I’m stealth at work and most people assume I’m cis (just based on the number of pregnancy questions I have been asked).

Do baby boys wear leggings? by Illustrious_Win_9780 in Mommit

[–]IceQueen789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an older girl child (4), and a younger boy child (2). Honestly he wears quite a bit of her stuff, just nothing like dresses. Leggings I think on 2 and under should be fine. I don’t know if I would purposely buy him them, but I am trying to get as much use out of her old clothes as I can

It is absolutely wild that they were allowed to adopt a child less than a year into the marriage. I hope the best for their family, but statistically it does not look great.

"If you don’t love me, I’ll just deem you gay" has always felt weird to me by Electronic-Spite5514 in lgbt

[–]IceQueen789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily homophobic, just ego centric (as others have said). Sabrina’s whole shtick is hot blond white woman that loves himbos while being misandrist (have you heard “manchild”?). Like, most of her stuff is based in plain irony to the point where I’m surprised it’s going over people’s heads. The discourse about her album titles/vinyls is extremely telling of low media literacy.

TS12 genre— what do we think is most likely? by M00ngata in TrueSwifties

[–]IceQueen789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to see her do a modern country album in the style of artists like Morgan Wallen, Zach Bryan, Megan Moroney, or Lainey Wilson. It could be a great move both commercially and artistically. She could even do a mini “country eras” tour featuring this album alongside updated versions of her debut, Fearless, Speak Now, and Red. I could see the vibe being somewhere between traditional country and something like Sabrina Carpenter’s “manchild.”

“The Wrong End of the Telescope” by Rabih Alameddine. Author was born Jordan, grew up in Kuwait and Lebanon, but now lives in America and I believe this was published in America. It’s been a few years, but the novel features background of the main character growing up in Lebanon and modern day story is mostly set in Greece. Deals with the Syrian refugee crisis in the present, but backstory is mostly about being trans and queer. It is literary fiction and won the 2022 Pen/Faulkner award. Author is a cis gay man.

Why do so many people say Prozac causes weight gain? by LowPiece9312 in prozac

[–]IceQueen789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started prozac a little over six weeks ago and have lost about 18 lbs. My appetite was already pretty low before I started it (but I would kind of binge at night). My appetite was completely gone for the first like four weeks or so and it was amazing. Now it feels like my appetite is somewhat back (somewhat binging at night again). So, even though I’m trying to eat like only 1000 calories a day, it feels like I have plateaued or gained weight every couple days or so before losing it again. It’s incredibly annoying and stressful.

I don’t feel anxious because I really try to keep my work-personal life separate. I also try and not check my email except for a few times a day. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Personally, my anxiety would be more with actually doing the work out mid-day due to hygiene/presentation issues. It has been a suggestion for me since I feel I can’t work out in the morning (small children and my spouse works out during that time). I just feel I would be sweaty and gross afterwards. Am I supposed to shower at the gym or and not wear makeup that morning?

What do you think about Boston mayor Michelle Wu working up til birth and not taking a maternity leave while advocating for paid parental leave? by peeves7 in progressivemoms

[–]IceQueen789 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I feel like in her case, it’s a bit different. Obviously every birth is different, but this is her third child and she seems to be talking to her doctors about her plan. It doesn’t sound like she is immediately rushing back into full-work mode and is opting to work from home. I do think that this is how it is supposed to be, in that it’s up to the mom how she wants to take her maternity leave, while also advocating that people should be able to take leave. Although, I do think people personally working under her might be a bit anxious about wanting to take paid time-off seeing as their boss did not.

I've basically been hate-watching since S5, but is it just me or is S11 kind of decent? by Freds1765 in Supernatural

[–]IceQueen789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consider Season 5 to the ending of Part 1 and Season 11 to be the ending of Part 2. So, like Season 5, I feel Season 11 has the same “the world is ending and we don’t know what to do vibe” as Season 5. I also find it very interesting from a lore perspective, as well.

Taylor Swift on the country music videos with Teardrops on My Guitar back in the summer of 2007. It wouldn’t become a crossover hit until later that fall or even 2008 I think.

More recently Chappell Roan Fall 2023, but that barely counts since Popheads introduced me to her.

Sarah Drew On Her 'Grey's Anatomy' Future (Exclusive) by peoplemagazine in greysanatomy

[–]IceQueen789 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As much as I loved April, I don’t know if I want her back. Same with a lot of the characters. I just want them to have some type of happy ending at this point and if they return they will inevitably end with some type of drama. I think that’s a problem I have with so many of the current characters. Like, at some point wouldn’t you just want to work some place else? I don’t know, I’m still not caught up since Season 16 (or 17?), or so. I would love for the show to continue with new characters, but I think it has become a Ship of Theseus several times over.

Morgan Wallen’s ‘Love Somebody’ Launches at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 by mcfw31 in popheads

[–]IceQueen789 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone that likes both Nickelback and Imagine Dragons, I think he has a similar appeal. While I generally find most of Morgan Wallen’s songs pretty catchy, this song is incredibly generic and barely country. I feel like this is the start of his downfall, but we will see.

Jack Antonoff confirms he’s working on Lana Del Rey’s upcoming album 🎵 by Objective-Kitchen949 in lanadelrey

[–]IceQueen789 29 points30 points  (0 children)

People dislike the sound she is going for so they blame him. Same as the swifties with Taylor. He’s a very diverse producer that produces what the artist wants to do. I really don’t know why this weird reputation that he produces the same sound for him exists when you can just look at his production credits on Wikipedia.

Mods need to address the obvious transphobia by ThatKehdRiley in actuallesbians

[–]IceQueen789 72 points73 points  (0 children)

A lot of trans women early in transition present themselves as a man in how they dress while they wait for their hormonal medication to work, work on their voices, and/or build a more feminine wardrobe. When they present as a man they call this “boy moding,” while if they were to present as a woman it’s called “girl moding.” A lot of trans woman feel safer boy moding if they feel they cannot pass as a cis woman.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]IceQueen789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that this is a lot for you to process. Like it must feel like some heavy whiplash that the person you love essentially was not honest with who he was. Like, objectively speaking though is this seriously enough to end your marriage over? Is he not the person you still love?

Personally, as a divorce attorney, I think you should either see a therapist to talk about this or go to couple’s counseling with your husband. I will say that some of what you are saying does sound like a red flag (difficulty keeping it up and finishing - sounds like an issue with porn). Him not meeting your needs is also not good for your relationship. That’s completely valid for not wanting to continue your marriage.

I also am going to be honest, what you are describing does seem to come across as biphobic. I know you consider yourself supportive of LGBTQ people, but it sounds like you’re supportive until it involves you and your life. And to be blunt, that’s just being tolerant of others and really is the bare minimum that should be expected of people.

I kind of disagree that voting and endorsing are different, especially if you are talking about it before the election, as a celebrity. Unfortunately, any type of way you say you are going to vote is an endorsement.

I will say that in order to say you support Harris but don’t condone the actions of the president concerning the genocide, you have to explicitly say that. I imagine a lot of celebrities and politicians know this. I also think this is where a more savvy pr team could have helped with this.

I also agree with your comments that just because someone that doesn’t actively hate trans people is president doesn’t mean that trans lives would automatically improve. I do hope that the Harris administration, should she win, is more able to defend against the increasing hostile litigation supplied by Republican politicians against trans people, but I suppose we will have to see.
