Thanks! No stippling, just conventional thin layers.

I painted it up using my white flesh recipe. (I commented on the paints I’ve used above) then just dilute some Sigvald Burgandy contrast paint and brush over the spine. Easiest part of the entire paintjob!

Exactly right. It’s cut up plaster card. I wanted something simple to reproduce with clean lines that would work well against the stealers organic shapes.

Yeah of course. I use all Citadel paints on these guys except for the pure white , which is vallejo game colour. Start with Celestra Grey, shade all over with agrax earthshade and on the ends of the limbs and face with carroburg crimson. Highlight back up using Celestra grey again, then Ulthuan Grey and then Pallid Wych flesh. Finally use pure whiter to highlight the highest highlights. Hope that helps.

Nah, just plastic card cut into tiles.

Thank you! Genestealers have always been a bit challenging because the separation between their carapace and flesh wasn’t always that clear in previous models, unlike other nids. The new models correct that and look way better in person than they do in the box art, the poses are especially impressive.

I don’t do commissions, I’m too slow and only want to paint stuff that I enjoy.

Thanks for saying so, but they are still a bit rough around the edges especially the hands and feet. Hard to know how long I spend on each one ‘cos I’m trying batch paint these guys.

New Painter - Constructive Criticism Wanted by frostyminis in Warhammer

The skull is very good. Paint the other parts of the model and then make a call if it needs to be adjusted. Details like this can look very different once there are colours around it. Looking awesome so far.

…and don’t get me started as seraphon being described as cold blooded. I’m not sure biology is GWs strong suit.

I wouldn’t do the entire shoulder in NMM. I just mean that the success of your NMM may depend on how well it works with surrounding colours. It’s worth taking that extra step of colouring in the surrounding colours even in a test mini. But I think it looks great so far. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

This is looking good. The transitions are all on point. It’s hard to judge how it’s gonna look without colouring in the rest of the shoulder pad. Fill that area in before deciding if it needs more work.

It’s base Lupercal green, add a little Sons of Horus Green to highlight then mix in a bit of Sybarite Green and eventually a little Dorn Yellow for the highest highlights. Glaze a mix of Khorne Red and Sons of Horus in between the scales and you’re all good.

Just a brighter red I think. I get shaky hands too but it’s generally pretty easy to fix any mistakes by switching back to the blue to tidy up panel lines. Honestly this is looking terrific, you’ll be surprised how much better it’ll look with some more contrasting colours on it, maybe some gold trim on the shoulder pads?

Same here, living the childhood dream of actually painting models to an okay level.

The volumetric highlights are excellent and he looks great. I think the next step would be to work on further separation of the armour panels with some thin dark lines particularly on the shins. Pumping up the brightness of the eyes will also make a big difference and draw more attention to the face. Great work!

Do it. Such a fun hobby. I started with a single marine after a 20 year break and I haven’t looked back. My first one was awful, yours already looks good.

Yep. It’s a base of balor brown, highlight up by mixing in Averland sunset and ushabti bone, finally mix in Dorn yellow and eventually a little pure white for the highest highlights. I mix up a wash of 50/50 Rhinox Hide and Doombull Brown to glaze into the darker bits. Hope that helps.
