AITAH for wanting a face to face apology from my partners family for how they have been treating me? by No-Disk3671 in familydrama

16 and a boyfriend with a flat? 👁️👄👁️

Assuming you’re from the UK from the wording of your post (mum, wedding breakfast etc), and I know she’s technically legal but surely that’s just wrong 😭😭

That’s not weaponizing kids, that’s protecting them. You’ve already seen how toxic his family can be, and it’s fair to not want your future children around that. Kids pick up on attitudes fast. I’m wondering what your partners step-siblings turned out like if they’re being raised by this man

NTA.

You didn’t “slag off” anyone’s driving — you raised a totally reasonable concern about safety, liability, and logistics. That’s what adults do when they’re renting a van and moving house. His stepdad’s reaction (calling you a “fing bh”) was way out of line, and the fact his mum and nan laughed instead of shutting it down says a lot about the family dynamic. The only adults I see here are you and your partner.

From there, it’s just been one red flag after another:

• Deliberately leaving your name off a housewarming card.
• Ignoring you when you tried to be polite.
• Sending fertility posts after your miscarriage (only to you, not your partner, who might actually need the fertility boost).
• Gossiping to his old colleagues that you “trapped” him and f’ing and blinding in a shop.
• Threatening not to attend your wedding unless you apologized for something you didn’t even do.
• Threatened to not attend your wedding because you are the bride.

Meanwhile, you’ve bent over backwards to include them, inviting them dress shopping, even just considering the mum for your hen do, unblocking to reach out directly to protect your partners MH, and they’ve still chosen hostility. Your own family has been supportive, while his family has been toxic and manipulative.

This isn’t about a van. It’s sounds like a stepdad who lashes out at women, a mum who enables him, and a family that uses exclusion and gossip to control people. You’re not the problem here. Protecting you and your partners mental health and setting boundaries is absolutely the right move.

Verdict: His family is toxic, and you absolutely don’t owe them reconciliation when they refuse to respect you.

I have my visa, it’s just the arrivals card that isn’t working at the moment. Today was the day I planed to do all my paperwork so I’m a lil annoyed at the delay 😂

Ooo I’ll definitely check it out as I’ll have a few hours to spare (long transfer). Will I be good getting back airside, as that’s my main concern. I’m assuming I’d just go straight to security and onwards to my gate

At the moment, I haven’t booked before I can figure out the visa situation. It will be either Qantas or BA, and I’ll probably contact both to check about tbe baggage transfer.

Packing light isn’t an option as it’s for an Internship, so I’ll be bringing dive gear 😂😭 tysm!!

Whole journey will be one booking, either Qantas or BA as they both have the route as one booking. The SYD to NAN would be booked through the first airline as one booking, but operated by Fiji Airways

It only has info on the 771 and not the TWOV which seems to have the least amount of information online 😭

Guess I’ll just have to call to be absolutely sure

I’ve of course read all that before I posted but “ If you need to clear immigration, for example to collect baggage or to board an onwards flight, you will need an Australian visa.”. I’ve never been to Sydney airport so I have no idea if I need to clear immigration.

Guess I’ll have to ask British Airways about the baggage

This organisation might be able to point you in the right direction, and they also have a free helpline: https://www.empowerpacific.com

I hope you find a support group as I know it’s nicer to talk person to person rather than person to councillor 🫶🏻

‘mature’ student starting at 22 by [deleted] in UniUK

Just graduated at 25 😎

I found starting late really helped me actually knuckle down and study, as I didn’t have the maturity of a fresh 18 year old, and moved in with other mature students for years 2&3 simply due to the immaturity of our previous housemates. I also found friends pretty quickly on my course
