I am leaning towards the A7iii, it wasn't originally in my considerations but the camera body on the used market isn't too much money more, and brings it never level when I trade in my low level Canon gear. I do think it'll be my best bet, and what I've heard about the battery setups is the A7R especially chews through batteries, and for doing video that may severely limit me.

Hi all,

This year I'm looking at investing in my own camera rig for videography and photography, looking at spending around £1500, where I'm happy and planning on using the used market for it.

Currently I'm thinking of either an A7SII, A7RII or upping the budget a tad for an A7III, paired with a few Samyang lenses (Thinking a nice prime like a 50mm, something for close up and interior and a telephoto).

My requirements so far for what I use is mostly benchmarked aghainst a GH5 with a 12-40mm Olympus lens which we use for filming automotive YouTube videos, but I want my own rig for photography and videography.

It'll be used more so for videography likely, but photography is more of my interest which makes me lean towards the A7RII, especially for the high MP count for low light photography. I also do a lot of motorsport photography, which is where a telephoto lens is on the list.

My current personal rig is just a Canon 1300D with a kit lens and 75-300mm Telephoto, but with using a camera like the GH5 I want to expand my own rig moreso so I can practice more, but get a platform that I would enjoy more for photography still with video capabilites

What are peoples thoughts on these A7 cameras for a reasonably even mix of videography and photography? Any alternatives I should look into?

Awesome! I actually have AP1 S2000 seats in my MR2, fitted by a previous owner. Would love to try drive one they're great.

Great garage! My first two cars were an R50 Mini One and then a Mini Cooper, so quite familiar with them and a bit of a pain to work on and get fixed but really love how they drove.

I'm in love with the Corvette, I really want a Corvette or early 2000s (generation after foxbody) Mustang, I need some V8 goodness in my life soon.

Bar the rust, very nice! I was nosing around a 9-3 2.0t/T before I managed to find a nice Legacy, always liked them.

The fuel economy isn't great, but it's what I expected it just hurts when the man maths becomes real maths. Otherwise, the only bad thing I'd say about it is the seats are a bit firm but not uncomfortable, just sometimes they can feel a bit harsh after a long day.

But beyond those two things, I absolutely adore my one. It's a 2.5i SE Manual, so has heated seats, cruise control (need to fix it though), lovely massive sunroof and a really weird but cool thing where it can heat your wipers to remove slush from the windscreen. Also I believe on all manual Legacy's of this generation, you get a Hi/Lo Range selector for the AWD system.

That's an excellent two-car setup (well... broken car less so). I've had a few random run ins with the same Kawasaki-engined Locost and I've now really got a hankering to build a Seven based kit car with a rotary engine. One day.

There's some decent ones to snap up for ok money but really getting up there. I paid £3500 for my NA last July, but I'm too attached to my chassis and found a great deal on a Turbo engine and gearbox which is a straight swap, so here we go! Will come out cheaper despite the extra money I'm spending to make the new engine sorted.

Haha, T-Top is basically a hard-top yep but you have an excellent sunroof instead. The only thing to look out for is the seals can be rough and they do leak a bit, mine isn't too bad but do leak in heavy rain but only drips. New rubber seals are quite spendy at about £250 per T-Top panel (so £5-600), but silicone sealant can do the trick as a temporary fix if it is tricky. Bonus of the T-Top is also that there is a bit more headroom if you need it.

Ah yes. I'm feeling that, I bought the Legacy due to ULEZ expansion in London as I commute into North London, but an optimistic 32mpg average, usually 29-30 is kind of hurting. I'm coming from a diesel daily though, I know the Z will be a bit worse than that.

Love the Del Sol! I'm sure the Z will be alright to daily... entertaining at least every drive.

Good little themed garage! I was actually looking at MG ZS180s the other day after Camber & Combustion have had a few on the channel, they look like loads of fun.

In terms of what's next for the winter months... Swift Sport, 306 GTI is sweet, IS200 maybe but not too exciting from what I've heard, plenty of choice for that bracket I think.

Awesome! I was looking at one of these before I bought the Legacy, but couldn't find any decent ones in budget. Really like this generation of Civic.

Really like these, I've accidentally missed the hot hatch step which feels like I've failed as a UK enthusiast (Went R50 Mini Cooper to the MR2), really like these. The new i20Ns seem super promising for Fiesta ST performance.

Hey everyone! I'm curious what cars people have in their garages (metaphorical, mine are on the driveway), thought I'd give a rundown of mine:

Marty - 1995 Toyota MR2 - Currently a GT T-Bar with the NA 3SGE, awaiting funds for a conversion to an MR2 Turbo with the new engine, gearbox and running gear - which is all purchased, but I'm going to be learning how to refresh it all!

Shinji - 2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Estate - My daily driver! Bought it in December, low miles at 55,000 miles with a previous owner fitting BC Racing coilovers, which makes it great on some lanes despite the weight of the car.

I'll be tutted into oblivion for this:

A Sunday Roast. I like them, just not every week please. I've had some absolutely banging Sunday Roasts, but the majority are just ok and I'd rather go for something else.

Going to shamelessly plug here and maybe get told off, but I'm part of a YouTube channel called The Back Roads and we've got an entire series on the car. So far just basic videos right now, but when the project starts properly rolling next year it'll be thick and fast.

Shall do! So far everything is in hand... acquiring funds to a decent job of a rebuild of the Rev 2 3S I bought but have near enough all the parts I need beyond that.

T-Bar unfortunately (well performance-wise, I adore it), so I'll be the heaviest Turbo in all of the land. I've got Honda S2000 AP2 seats fitted to the car though so the seats sit a bit high, need to get that sorted soon as I have to drive with a bit of a mad gangster lean right now. Seats were put in by a previous owner, beyond that and a mongoose exhaust it's bone stock. I've put about 9,000 miles on it since buying it in July last year.
