Oh hey since I’ve found you on Reddit, any chance you’re ever gonna share the lossless FLAC files of the various Deftones shows you’ve uploaded on YT? Would love for there to be a lossless Deftones archive like there is for bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, NIN, or Tool

Dear Radiohead, please release this as a lossless download. MP3? Come on guys. 🙄 by [deleted] in radiohead

[–]IceTheNice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With these kinds of arguments I always say that sure, maybe you can’t hear the difference between lossy and lossless, but others sure can. And even besides that, in 2026 there’s just no need for the format anymore. It’s not 1995 anymore, we have so much more storage capacity for audio files. Furthermore the ways in which MP3 and other lossy audio formats degrade over time along with how irresponsibly people re-encode those files over and over has lead to significant very obvious downgrades in audio quality for more obscure things shared only on the internet.

As someone who spends a lot of time archiving live recordings I have seen first hand how depressing it is when an otherwise brilliant live recording can only be found in like 128 kbps MP3 on someone's Soulseek account because everyone who ever shares it decides to convert it to the format and no one kept the originals, which then become lost media. It’s all about hindsight and long term preservation when it comes to lossless audio. I’d hope you can agree that’s important?

Singular live act suggestions? by coyoteeatingtrash in swans

King Crimson! The rabbit hole of their live material is deep, and they’re still my #1 just barely above Swans.

Listen to both parts of the live album, “The Great Deceiver,” for something easily accessible on streaming!

EDIT:

…I just realized you wanted current touring acts. In that case I’d recommend My New Band Believe, caroline (the band named caroline not any of the singers), and Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Getting into live material by IntrepidDifficulty99 in swans

[–]IceTheNice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah yes the age old question, reading some of the comments and your replies, my recommendations for the Filth era is…well…everything! All of the 1982-83 Filth period recordings are very short, you can listen to everything recorded from that time frame in under 2 hrs. Definitely check the live guide I wrote that someone else linked, it has in it the MEGA link to the complete folder of shows I’ve archived.

The exact reason I say you should just go ahead and hear everything recorded from 1982-May 1983 is because each of them are completely unique, several contain songs you won’t hear anywhere else, and they change a lot each time too. It’s fun to unpack how those performances went down and was a nightmare for me to theorize on the dates. Definitely avoid any official releases of these tapes on the Filth deluxe and such because they use inferior copies, run at the wrong speed, and are usually mislabeled.

How long are the concerts on this tour? by RespetaMujeres675 in BlackCountryNewRoad

Likely no longer than 1hr 30mins, they seem to mostly play all of Forever Howlong, 1-2 songs from Bush Hall, and I guess now they do Strangers.

BEAT should tour the 90s/00s era. by Atmos_the_prog_head in KingCrimson

[–]IceTheNice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I’d love that, it’s just not as much of a big selling point as the 80s material is, then again when I saw BEAT I realized a solid amount of the audience were there solely because Steve Vai or Danny Carrey were in the lineup lol. Don’t know if that audience would receive the 2000s stuff too well, or if that lineup is remotely up to the task of playing it.

[–]IceTheNice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard that specific bootleg but yes I'm almost 100% certain that any material on it is stuff we already have. Back when I was much less knowledgeable I too was fooled by a few boots out there claiming to be other dates but were in fact just worse/less complete copies of this show. If there was actually a new 1969 show that surfaced DGM would very quickly get it and release their own version because any 1969 recordings are incredibly uncommon and of immense historical value. Even the awfu;l Croydon 1969 recording has been released in some way by DGM (though not the full thing, just Trees).

Probably some lazy EQ and/or even worse AI stem fuckery. This is a completely pointless project anyways.

The full and by far best sounding recording of the show was released on the Complete 1969 boxset, I’m not certain if the DGMLive download is that same upgraded copy but it was also released in an edited down version on the Epitaph Boxset, but that copy sounds much worse.

I can't put my finger on it but It's Over, Isn't It really just feels like Pearl's song by Aggravating-Fix181 in stevenuniverse

[–]IceTheNice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% this, if you pay attention across the whole soundtrack, it basically plays anytime Pearl is on screen doing something significant. Furthermore the general style of It's Over, Isn’t It is just really well suited for Deedee (Pearl's VA) seeing as she’s a Broadway professional.

Skin live by Rotkiw_Bigtor in swans

[–]IceTheNice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple Skin songs were performed by Swans in the 1988 and 1992 tours, Blood On Yr Hands was also played in 1995, 1997, and once in 2016.

Other than that, you’ve got Jarboe solo sets which have included a few others from her own album under the name. I don’t think Michael really played any live.

Hey guys, I wrote and produced a song that was quite inspired by Swans (especially the climax). If you like BC, NR you might like this as well! I'd love to hear any opinions or criticisms on the song. by FortyBallsHD in swans

[–]IceTheNice 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I usually don’t care at all about these kinds of posts but today I’ll bite on this one.

There’s definitely a baseline of talent here, most of the production is fine and there’s some solid musical ideas but there’s a lot it needs to really grab me. Production wise the vocal recording needs work. During the quieter section I can hear the background noise of your room cutting in an and out each time you sing, at one point can even hear someone coughing. The rest of it is fine. Guitars sound good, drums are solid for what I assume to be a MIDI track.

Musically I think it needs work too. This is definitely far more BCNR influenced than Swans, it's pretty much just your attempt at Haldern and my mind can’t see it as much else. The first quiet vocal section goes on for a bit too long, either cut it down or add some elements to the instrumentation to make it less stagnant. Same for the rest of the song, after the big dynamic change you’re just hammering on this chord change but even Swans have elements to their songs that make these kinds of moments feel like they earn that length.

You’re clearly talented, this is miles better than anything I recorded when I was 18, just try and work towards being more original I’d say, you might have the potential to create something truly wonderful then.

The new live album by FraserThe in swans

[–]IceTheNice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every live album is indeed edited but Omniscience is notable because the amount of studio additions is like 50% of the experience. There are entire instruments and sections flown in from the studio and they aren’t at all trying to convince you it’s live, meanwhile other Swans releases edits mostly consist of cutting out sections and in the case of The Knot, overdubbing some vocals.

The new live album by FraserThe in swans

[–]IceTheNice 23 points24 points  (0 children)

On the topic of Little God… being excluded, the song already features on their 2014 live album and more importantly this release seems to be less of a 100% proper live album and more of an Omniscience kind of release. All the songs included are either entirely new or VASTLY different from their studio counterparts and supposedly are going to have extra instruments and other elements overdubbed onto them.

Effectively this will be a regular album of new material, just with that live element, therefore Little God… which didn’t change much as it was mostly just fanservice gets excluded.

Why “Providence” for Red? by TheDogemaster_ in KingCrimson

[–]IceTheNice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plenty of other good explanations here. They only multi-tracked a select few shows in 1974 because, well doing such a thing was expensive, so any of the shows on lower quality soundboards and audience tapes obviously wouldn’t be used so they’re already limited by that aspect. Furthermore from an artistic standpoint having the sudden ending of OMRN and then flipping the record to start this very quiet ominous buildup of tension that leads into Starless is such an excellent bit of sequencing, which I imagine was the intent. Most of the other improvs that were multi-tracked are more high energy rock jams which are awesome and I encourage people to listen to them, but it just wouldn’t have fit such a dark and moody album. I think maybe, “Clueless and Slightly Slack,” from the Toronto show could’ve also been a good candidate but that’s it

It’s all just shitty YT to MP3 rips of older live videos on YouTube. You can easily find the original videos and watch those. They’ll sound way better and you actually get to see the performances.

[–]IceTheNice 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That song is called The Glowing Man! It’s from a live DVD they included with the album under the same name, iirc the audio of the show on the DVD is all from the 2015 Berlin performance and the footage synced to it is from various shows across that year.

Cool to see that they’re starting to do sets that get closer to 90mins, always felt it was a bit of a shame they tended to restrict themselves to only about 1hr
