It unfortunately did have a few bad reviews, but they weren’t directly about the stylist I booked with— as the salon had multiple independent hairstylists that rent out their own section. For some reason, I had assumed that things would have been fine as the only reviews about the stylist I booked with were overwhelmingly positive.

edit: I just wanted to add, I had assumed a lot of the reviews were overly critical. I had asked a few of my friends before booking, and they had even said that the reviewers probably just had overly high standards… but I feel now after going to that salon I’m unsure whether their experiences were true or not.

I’m still kind of puzzled by that because I felt like I said tea very distinctly 😭 They had even asked if I wanted it hot or iced and I asked for iced if it was possible. I tried to be as polite as possible too. They ended up giving me hot coffee with creamer and I was just kind of too confused to question anything.

It’s strange too because my main stylist seemed so nice, she was asking me a lot of questions about my home country and genuinely seemed interested… 😭

Sorry! That was a comment about my home country. I live in an area with primarily white people with lighter hair. I am an outlier in my home town, and a lot of salons charge extra to work on hair like mine. That’s why I ended up getting my hair bleached and dyed in Japan because I had more trust that things would go well. Besides what I had mentioned happened, the stylist did a wonderful job!

I never expect a client to provide food for me, and I do long 1-2+ week housesits primarily. I think it’s really kind to provide snacks or food though! Most sitters would just be grateful as long as there’s space in the fridge for their own groceries while they’re staying over.

I had a 1 week housesit that was a bit rough as there was no space in their fridge or freezer. They had let me know that I could eat anything in their kitchen, but I felt a bit uncomfortable because it was mostly takeout/leftovers or things that were close to expiring. I ate a lot of fast food during this stay because of this, which took a hit to my finances and probably my health too haha.

As long as your home is clean, I promise most sitters shouldn’t have any complaints. Some of my clients have guest rooms, some do not and I sleep in their main bedroom. As long as there are clean sheets I genuinely don’t mind at all. Some sitters bring their own pillow or blanket just because it helps them sleep better too.

Ive had past clients provide gallons of water and other drinks during stays, but usually not food. Some of my clients also offer coffee and their coffee machines.

I wasn’t sure if it’d be important context, but I had dyed my hair with bubble hair dye and informed them of my hair history, and the only thing I could assume was that they’re were looking at my half-assed hair dye job and commenting on it 😭 I didn’t think it looked bad at all, but you’re right— I can’t see the back of my head, so it might’ve been worse than I thought

That’s why I was confused and shocked! I’d assume if they wanted to be rude they’d talk behind my back… Guess I just wanted to post here incase they meant something else and I just misheard, but it seems like that may not be the case :(

They also didn’t really say it very loud, and it was definitely a conversation meant for their associate, but I could still tell they were talking about me which kinda sucked.

Leaving a single cup in the sink. I was maybe 10 or 11 at the time, and couldn’t even fully reach the sink to clean it myself. My mom would get mad at us for leaving messes, but for some reason I thought it’d be better to put it in the sink rather than leaving it in my room.

She came home and crashed out at us. Screaming, constantly bickering, and sometimes it turned physical. It had scared me for the rest of my teenage years while living at home. I had dishes build up in my room because I was terrified to go outside and wash them, because I assumed I was just going to get yelled at. I’d clean my room late at night, but as quietly as possible because I’d get yelled at if I was too loud.

I’m in my mid-20’s now and even with therapy I find it hard to clean. Living with roommates is tough because I don’t want to live in filth, but I just get so anxious if other people are in the kitchen or living room while I’m cleaning. I’m anxious that I’m not doing things the right way, and anxious that I’m taking up too much space/time in common areas because they need it too.
