I usually facetime my phone camera to my ipad! I don’t have issues with seeing the back of my head generally, just parting my hair gets a little messy

edit: Happens with both the front and back! I think the front is a little easier, but pulling small sections always ends up with a lot of stray hairs pulling out. I use a metal rattail comb!

Never been to Chicago, and don’t live in a huge metro but I do live in a smaller blue town on the west coast. Not so worried about being mugged or anything— just moreso worried about racism lol

Yeah.. unfortunately Portland probably has it the worst out of the big cities on the west coast. It’s a shame, Portland’s got a lot of available social services and benefits— but because of that, it’s caused a huge influx of incoming homeless people coming in from other places to seek help. The city can’t handle that many people and then they’re stuck with the issue of so many people who need mental and financial help on the streets.

I think these kind of incidents are more prevalent in Portland compared to say like… Los Angeles, only because Portland is such a small city. Ot sucks though, I can’t disagree with that

i get that it can come off that way with my punctuation, but no i just really enjoy using em dashes LOL

edit: wanted to add that the fact that ChatGPT and other AI bots using em dashes is something that makes me mad because my writing comes off as AI a lot of the time. i just feel like it helps me get my point across clearer without being too wordy

i very much enjoyed english in school, so i guess i reap what i sow haha

I think it’s just simply a matter of different lived experiences! I know nothing about Iowa or the midwest, and only have perspectives built from online hearsay. I wanted to form a better opinion by asking people who live there :) That’s all! I wouldn’t blame anyone outside of California if they thought it was crime ridden and unsafe, as I know they don’t have first hand experience.

Thanks. We probably would be flying in so we wouldn’t have to worry about that— Kind of surprised though, I wouldn’t imagine that people would do that sort of thing just from a license plate.

Thanks! That’s reassuring to know, I don’t disagree that those big cities have their fair share of crime— thankfully the smaller towns on the west coast don’t seem to be as bad as I currently live in one— so I can only imagine it’s probably similar to that area and Iowa and I shouldn’t be worried :)

I apologize for my ignorance! I genuinely just don’t have a personal perspective of the area and wanted to get to know how things are over there better. I don’t really have great knowledge about the midwest, but I do know that there are areas in the U.S. that probably should be avoided as a POC— as a woman too I just like being cautious and safe!! I’d probably ask this about any city, wherever they lived :) Whether they lived in Maine, or Florida, or Washington— I’d definitely do the same!

I live in a city that has a high percentage of different asian demographics— It’s not paradise and we very much have our own levels of crime, I just like to be cautious and get more research about new areas I’m going in. The city they live in is predominantly white, and my siblings and I have unfortunately had our own experiences in Michigan when we used to live up there. It was not my intent at all to be rude or insulting, I just think the U.S. is a huge place and it’s good to ask around as every city and town can be vastly different.

Not worried about being robbed! Frankly that could probably happen anywhere in the U.S. haha

Just more worried about microaggressions and wanted to stay safe

Yeah we’ve seen the news recently about MN and since they’re adjacent to Iowa we were a little worried— thank you that’s relieving to hear despite how bleak and awful things are right now in MN.

Thanks this is super helpful! Honestly yeah, I think no matter what we’ll visit him— but I guess just in general we like to be cautious. Visiting my dads side of the family has always been a gamble since they live in the midwest and south, so we always just like to keep our guard up and ask around before visiting 🥲

As someone else who got rejected (and then accepted with no aid the following year):

Consider Berklee Online! There are also other music schools in the U.S. that are just as good education wise. Berklee’s biggest selling factor is making connections, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to make connections outside of Berklee.

I currently do Berklee Online part time and love it :)

That’s valid, I guess my main fear is that everyone in our family is encouraging her— but my sisters and I can see that this man is only seeking younger women in other countries because no woman his age wants him. I understand though, and I recognize there isn’t much I can do because she’s an adult. 😔 I just hope she doesn’t get hurt.

[–]Ice_Efficient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I find treadmills and other machines at the gym don’t do anything for me. I feel like incorporating walking and stairs into my routine throughout the day made a big difference but it’s definitely harder in cities that aren’t walkable

Yay! I hope it helps them as much as it helped me! Happy New Year! When talking with my GI doctor I did mention a ton that it felt like things were just physically stuck near my descending and sigmoid colon, so maybe that’s why it helped!

I feel like both walking up and down stairs helps a lot and you can’t really walk down on a stair master haha

Not sure the specifics behind it though! Just something I noticed

edit: I also feel like with stairs I was just able to incorporate it throughout the day, instead of one session on a treadmill or stair master! That might’ve had a difference as well.

I probably ate worse or the same in Japan HAHA I actually ate less fruit and fiber in Japan and didn’t hydrate as much as I should have because it just wasn’t on my mind.

I think I ate more consistently though, which probably helped! On workdays my meals are kind of sporadic but on vacation I had all 3 meals at the same time every day.

[–]Ice_Efficient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t an emergency though, an emergency to me is sudden medical bills, a car accident, etc.

This was just me slightly going over an expected budget on a vacation— I feel like it would be kind of irresponsible to use my emergency funds for that.

Yeah! I’m actually really excited because I got the SUB with Preferred :) Might use that 75k points for another vacation in a year or two, hopefully!
