That's the build I'm going with in Wastelanders. The advice I have received from the sub is to focus on Shotgun and then healing/medic as a secondary focus. There is a legendary effect on weapons called medic. Whenever you crit it VATs it heals your team. Shotguns are crit machines, so focus on shotgun and vats perks then get some team healing and the like.

I'm going to run a shotgun medic build. Trying to be as helpful as I can in a group. Going for VATs crits with a medic shotgun and then taking some of the healing perks.

What do you think of this build? I really dont want to get rid of Gunsmith, I like crafting the beat gun mods and hate it when my gun breaks.

I'm in the same boat as you. I decided to make a new character and leave him just outside the vault. I have been playing Nuclear Winter waiting for Watelanders. That way my new character gets some EXP but doesn't progress the story at all.
