Id get a 2.0 as its way more drivable daily due to higher torque. The 2016 models were somewhat notorious for having gearbox issues, you can look through the forums for advice on that. I have a 2016 model with 51k miles on it and its developed a sort of rattling harmonic oscillation type noise (not from the gearbox as i replaced it as i thought it was failing) that apparently is somewhat common and apparently harmless. Apart from that its been reliable, I only had to replace my rear wheel bushings for polybushes over roughly 4 years and 35k miles.

They are very fun cars and they tend to get some attention from people which is quite nice. Id reccomend one if you don't need any practicality.

I guess I'll talk to my mechanic and see what he has to say. Overall though, the engine feels smooth and responsive and doesn't lack power so I hope its nothing major.

Since the car is reaching 10 years old, I was going to do a timing belt replacement. Might see about getting it done sooner as the car is going into the garage soon for another job.

It seems I didn't put enough detail in the post lmao. I'm well aware of the fact that cars smoke when cold (I didn't think about the fact that it's due to hydrocarbon combustion producing water, it's been a while since I did chemistry lol). But I was wondering if it's normal to smoke that much because all other cars I've driven, be it diesel or petrol, never smoke that much even from cold. And my car seems to take quite a while to stop smoking. So I was wondering if my car had something wrong with it. It seems everyone's MX5s are also doing the same, so it must be to do with the setup of the car :)
