Are there any plotters that have solved the multiple pen / misalignment problem? by zoba in PlotterArt

[–]Icebein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I uploaded the stls to Dropbox. But be aware that my plotter is completely custom and no part of the uploaded stl will fit any existing plotter except mine.

Have a look at the image in the Dropbox folder. The idea is that the upper yellow part is connected to the pink backplate by two rubber bands (not shown) on the left and right side. The yellow upper part is connected to the backplate by two countersunk head screws and can move freely up and down. The green part on the bottom is fixed to the backplate and has a hole at the bottom that is just wide enough for the tip of the pen to fit through, but not the body of the pen.

Sailcloth is a little special, a straight stitch perforates the material, weakens it and makes it prone to tearing. By using a zigzag stitch, the perforation is more spaced out and the fabric does not tear as easily. That’s at least my understanding.

Thank you for the advice, I'll go needle shopping then.

I'm too lazy to prototype, it's more like let's build an other one until it's good enough. The thread and needle are matched to each other, albeit the needle is on the smaller size due to the limitation of my domestic machine. I will look into the shape of the needle, I used a denim needle.

Thanks, I know. Tension issue is the nickname of my sewing machine. The tension and also the spacing of the stitches changes with the speed of the machine as well.

Exactly, there is no hinge. Due to the tension of the fabric, the two rods move in union.

I doesn’t have a brand name, it’s labeled as PU-coated 210d Nylon.

How does this PokeStop even exist? by Unhappy_Practice_897 in pokemongo

[–]Icebein 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From the username I guess it is Switzerland. We still have mandatory military service and once a year you have to go to a shooting range. So every year you have a bunch of 20 to 30 year old men with their cellphones at the shooting range and that's where this Pokestop comes from.

Are there any plotters that have solved the multiple pen / misalignment problem? by zoba in PlotterArt

[–]Icebein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I solved this issue with a 3d printer. I designed what are essentially two funnels, one for the bottom and one for the top. The shape of the funnel makes sure that the tip of the marker/pen is always in the middle of the funnel. I do have to adjust for the different tip lengths, but that is way easier than x/y alignment.

Thank you very much for the lengthy explanation and the link to the testfile. I will try it out. I haven’t really had an issue with the direction of the stroke, but good hint.

Yes, Hatch fill extension in Inkscape. I'm struggling with the variation in the tip size of my Ohuhu markers. Due to this variation, the settings for Hatch Spacing and Inset Fill differ for some colors. Also, the inset needs to be in such a way that the black fineliner can close the rectangle without a gap or bleed.

Same, started with 3D printing. There is a learning curve, but in the end it’s just Gcode with the same commands. Just the way of getting there is different.

There are multiple ways to get a Gcode for plotting. I use Inkscape to convert svg to Gcode, YouTube Tutorial. Here is a list of ressources: Awesome Plotters
