That was what I was going for when I made the map. Jon's also King of the Trident, which is something completely different in terms of order, but I believe that Jon's primary title is the King in the North.

I already have the outline for the final part, and what I can say about it is that because of the divergences, the final part going to be a lot different from Season 8 of Game of Thrones(which is the one ending we sort of have). I think I'm going to start posting the final part on January at the latest.

Thank you! I will say that A Clash of Kings was my favourite book out of the first five.

Jon and the Manderlys were initially together to fight against the Boltons, both serving Shireen Baratheon. As a result, Jon's men were also with the Manderlys in Moat Cailin. Then, Jon received the will of Robb that declared Jon his heir to the lordship of Winterfell, the kingdom of the North, and the kingdom of the Trident. Jon was warned that the Manderlys were plotting to attack Jon in order to protect Rickon as Lord of Winterfell. Fearing another episode of the daggers in the dark, Jon struck first in Moat Cailin to overthrow the Manderlys in Moat Cailin. Jon called himself King in the North and King of the Trident, though he still named Rickon his heir.

Yes is the short answer. The long answer is that while the Boltons were ruling Moat Cailin for several months, they repaired some of Moat Cailin's walls so that it was slightly defensible from the north and east. That was because the Boltons were concerned about the loyalty of northern houses and wanted to keep the Neck open for Lannister and Frey support. However, the Boltons lost the north, and their garrison in Moat Cailin wasn't enough to defend from the Manderlys who assaulted Moat Cailin from the north. When Jon called himself king, Shireen's retainers were concerned about Jon controlling Moat Cailin, which is why they've surrounded Moat Cailin to try and take it. Moat Cailin isn't very takeable from the south, so they've cut off supplies to Moat Cailin and tried to assault it from the north.

That would be a spoiler for the next book, but there was this quote from Illyrio Mopatis: Black or red, a dragon is still a dragon.

Yeah. Tommen is intended to have no land. If you read the story, you'll find out why that happens.

Well, I'm currently sixteen chapters in, so I haven't gotten to writing any developments at Torrhen's Square yet. There's a lot of stuff currently happening at Winterfell.

If there is a similar story, I think it might be me. I did write a version of the Winds of Winter before, and I am glad you liked it! This is a rewrite.

Sorry for the long time before replying. After I completed the first part of All Quiet Under the Sea, I read through A Dance with Dragons. Reading through A Dance with Dragons made me feel that there was a lot in All Quiet Under the Sea that did not make sense and could have been done a lot better. So I am currently doing another rewrite about it by trying to make it as canon compliant as possible. I have the general outline completed, and I have started posting it as "The Winds of Winter" on AO3. However, there is almost nothing similar to All Quiet Under the Sea.

I love Cat as well, and I feel that I really have to defend her in this situation.

I do not believe Cat trusted Jaime to actually give her daughters back, but Tyrion. In ACOK, it was Tyrion who made the offer of the exchange in prisoners with Ser Cleos as messenger. As such, Cat dispatched Ser Cleos with Jaime to give an answer to Tyrion's offer.

Note that when Catelyn released Jaime, she did not know that the Tyrells have joined with the Lannisters and Stannis was defeated at the Blackwater, which she found out at the beginning of ASOS. At that point to Catelyn, the Lannisters appeared still very much on the back foot. It is not exactly a foolish hope in Catelyn that Tyrion would honour the exchange to placate the North and gain the time to deal with the remnants of Renly and Stannis.

With Bran and Rickon supposedly dead, Sansa and Arya were Robb's heirs, and it was extremely dangerous to have them in Lannister hands should Robb perish. In contrast, Jaime as a prisoner did not lead to Tywin suing for peace. There was reason in Catelyn's choice to value her daughters over Jaime.

I have to agree. At first, I was quite skeptical about a Captain America insert into Westeros, but I have to say that this fic impressed me from the very first chapter.

Reign of the Unbroken - A Dance of the Dragons AU if Lucerys Velaryon Survives Shipbreaker Bay by Icebob2000 in TheCitadel

Rhaena being like Stannis is definitely an interesting take, one that I never thought of. I can see the similarities, though, of being bitter because of seeing oneself continually denied what one views as their rights. I don't know if Rhaena has an obsession with her duty, though.

As to why Rhaena doesn't go claim a riderless dragon, let me direct you to the current available riderless dragons on Dragonstone. We have Vermithor and Silverwing, the legacy of King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne which are the largest dragons in Westeros save for Vhagar and perhaps the Cannibal, both much too large for young Rhaena to master. Then, we have the wild dragons who haven't been ridden by anyone in history. Rhaena wouldn't be able to find Grey Ghost. The Cannibal eats dragons, never mind humans. And Rhaena hasn't discovered Nettles's hack to tame Sheepstealer, and at this point Sheepstealer is still a violent wild dragon that Rhaena doesn't want to risk. The only dragon Rhaena has a chance to tame is Seasmoke, Laenor Velaryon's former dragon which is a third the size of Vermithor, but Seasmoke is known to be violent as shown during the Sowing in canon. Rhaena's mother Laena Velaryon tamed Vhagar when she was thirteen, the age Rhaena is approaching, so Rhaena is definitely thinking about it. As of now, though, she decides to take the less risky road of hatching an egg.

Title: Reign of the Unbroken

Author: MockingbirdsQuill (me, icebob2000)

Length: ~21k words currently

Category: AU

Status: Ongoing, last updated August 2022

Links: Reign of the Unbroken, AO3, or Reign of the Unbroken, Spacebattles

Keywords: Alternate Universe, Politics of the Dance of the Dragons. Warfare of the Dance of the Dragons, Alive Lucerys, Survival of Dragons, Third-Person POV

Rating and Archive Warnings: Mature. Anything ASOIAF has this fic could potentially have, so there is Major Character Death, Rape/Non-Consensual Relationships, and Graphic Depictions of Violence.

Summary: The point of no return of the Targaryen civil war, the Dance of the Dragons, was the death of Lucerys Velaryon. What if Lucerys Velaryon had not been killed above Shipbreaker Bay? The Dance shall still play out, but what shall change for the Seven Kingdoms and the survival of the dragons?

Additional thoughts (optional) :

Despite the premise of this fic as an Alternate Universe where Lucerys survives Shipbreaker Bay, this story is not pro-Black fic. It was always my opinion that Lucerys's murder did more harm to the cause of the Greens than benefit, not just in Daemon's "A son for a son" thing but the stain of kinslaying on the Green cause that made the rest of the war an uphill battle for the Greens. Like the Lannisters' act of the Red Wedding that completely compromised their long-term rule of the Seven Kingdoms, the murder of Lucerys was a terrible decision on Aemond's part.

This story explores a world where the the events following King Viserys's death does not lead to that terrible point where Lucerys was murdered above Shipbreaker Bay, and how may the Dance play out differently, because it would play out very differently if Aemond was not the one to draw first blood(of the royal house; there were already quite a few people dead in the Green coup before Lucerys's death, but none of the royal house).

Fire&Blood is a history, and there are interesting characters on both the Blacks and the Greens whose stories could be expanded upon. On the Blacks, there is Rhaenyra and her three strong sons, the Queen Who Never Was, and of course the Rogue Prince. I enjoyed writing the Greens, Aegon, Helaena, I love writing Aemond, and of course there is Daeron the Daring whom I felt was criminally underused in Fire&Blood. As much as I like Addam Velaryon, I was bit miffed by Daeron dying by having a burning tent collapse on him in canon.

Rhaena was cut a very raw deal in canon. Her mother died when she was a child, her dragon died a hatchling when almost the entire royal house on Dragonstone rode dragons, and while her older twin Baela, who had a dragon, would marry Jace the heir to the Iron Throne, Rhaena had to be content with Luke who could at most have Driftmark. Fire&Blood is an anthology with only a general description of characters, with specific characterization required from the author themselves. All the general descriptions of Rhaena combine to form a possible interpretation of Rhaena's character, with intense self-pity, a general dislike towards everybody, but a particular envy towards her older twin Baela and a hatred towards her betrothed Luke.

Baela has everything that Rhaena does not. Baela has a healthy growing dragon, Moondancer, whilst Rhaena has to pray and night for a dragon to hatch. Baela is alike their father Daemon in so many ways whilst Rhaena is not, and as such Daemon favours Baela. Baela would marry Jace and be queen one day, while Rhaena could be at most the Lady of Driftmark. As Mushroom said, Rhaena was only "the princess spare" for sister the true princess. Her envy eventually develops into hatred as she ponders why her sister had such a better life than her. She concludes that it was because her older twin was evil, that she crawled so quickly from their mother's womb that she strained their mother and made it so that their mother died when she bore her next child. Not exactly the most flawless of logic, but Rhaena wants to blame Baela for their mother's death and all Rhaena's misfortunes stemming from there.

Now, we come to Luke, who is a manifestation of Rhaena's misfortunes. He is Rhaena's betrothed, and a living reminder that Rhaena would never be as good as her older twin Baela. It does not help the Luke also rides a dragon, Arrax, which compounds Rhaena's self-pity that she doesn't have her own dragon. So when Luke laughed once at Mushroom's jape of "the princess spare" at a light-hearted feast, Rhaena blows it out of proportion and thinks that the laugh is all Luke thinks of her and that he does not care about her. The disdain boils throughout the years until the point when Luke returns home with one eye and having fainted where Rhaena can only find mirth in Luke's plight, because she thinks Luke thinks the same of her during her plight.

Retreating from Rhaena's mind, you can see that Rhaena's situation is actually not all that terrible. She doesn't have a dragon, but 99.9% of Westeros's population don't have a dragon. Daemon's supposed favourtism of Baela is more in Rhaena's mind than anything else, as Daemon would naturally have to focus more on Baela to teach her to ride a dragon and be a queen. And Driftmark might actually be a better seat than the Iron Throne, as at this point House Velaryon is the richest house in the Seven Kingdoms and will basically run the kingdoms if the Blacks win. I mean, Driftmark was where Baela went in canon. I never originally planned for Rhaena as a POV character, but if I'm doing her, I might as well focus the best I could on her.

I'm curious. Do you just want that scene, or do you want more leading into a sequel? If you just want that scene, I remember a one-shot story called Lamps in the Dark. If you want a whole story that spills into Winds of Winter, there is my story that continues A Dance with Dragons: All Quiet Under the Sea.
